Maybe Grif shouldn't have been as surprised as he was. Sarge had always proved more perceptive than people gave him credit for. It was one of the few things that made him the best CO that Grif had ever had.

Still, it wasnt like he could show that.

"Go home." he snorted. "Even if I had a place to go home to, its not like we're ever getting out of this fucking army. I've tried." Not hard, of course. That required effort.

Grif jumped. For the first time in a while, Sarge had snuck up on him, and not only that, it was when he was staring at Simmons. The pale, freckled cheek that used to belong to a certain nerd started turning red. It was unfortunate that his dark complexion didnt hide it effectively anymore.
