Shout Factory recently announced a new 4K release of John Woo's A Better Tomorrow trilogy, and with it, an exciting discovery. During the restoration process for A Better Tomorrow II, audio restoration specialist Brandon Bentley discovered a long lost workprint cut of the film with more than 30 minutes of extra footage. Even John Woo himself didn't know it still existed.

It's been 7 years since Gravity Falls Lost Legends and the Complete Series box set were released...yes...SEVEN YEARS!!

I have a lot of nostalgia for these, as the box set and Lost Legends were the first pieces of new major GF content to come out after I joined the fandom. I was about to leave the fandom in fact in the Summer of 2017, until Alex announced LL at D23 and stuck around to experience it and later the box set. I stayed up till midnight on July 24th to watch the countdown on the GF wiki hit 0 when I should've been studying for a Summer School exam. I raced to the book store the next day when my pre order got delayed (fuck Chapters Indigo forever for that). I loved every story in that book and felt what probably fans who were here when GF was airing felt. And over the years I bought other copies too from the B&N exclusive before it was discontinued and later the rarer paperback edition which I made a whole video on, lol.

Then when the box set came, I watched every bit of bonus content in it that I could. I spent that August watching all the new and old content that was in it to enjoy. I had my wisdom teeth removed and while recovering, spent days just listening to the commentaries and behind the scenes documentary over the dog days of Summer, the sound of the fan in the background being a constant companion. Then when the box set was being discontinued in 2023, I bought it on Blu-ray cause why not. It's still sealed and on my shelf to this day. My DVD player broke, so the last time I had these in a player was 2022 iirc, but then it's all on YouTube now, so this set is more a display piece of something that once was and a reminder of why physical media will always rule, cause Disney+ viewers will never get to enjoy the exclusives on this box set like I did.

Gravity Falls fans today talk about how great the Summer of 2024 was with The Book of Bill. And yeah, it was...it really was. But for me, I have major nostalgia for the Summer of 2018 too. We didn't know then if we ever would see new GF content again. So, to have what we got then was insane. I think even now it's lost on fans how big it was for GF to get a box set. That NEVER happens and never has happened again. We got so lucky. We won the lottery!! I wish the box set made it to today cause imagine the surge in sales had it been around in 2024. It's sad. I'm glad that I got to experience it.

I feel like a middle child when it comes to the Gravity Falls fandom in a way. We got the old fans who were there when the show was airing and later when Cipher Hunt happened and Journal 3 released. Then we got the newer fans who joined post Disney+ and through The Book of Bill. And then you have fans like me who joined in between that time in 2017-2019. We're the sorta forgotten bunch who had these few things to enjoy and never got our own fandom hype, cause the hype for these things ended before even the Summer did and other shows were airing that took more of the fandom attention away.

But OMFG, was it worth it. Us middle fans got the show's only graphic novel and the chance to own GF on PHYSICAL MEDIA!! That's about as cool as it gets and something I'll always remember that Summer for. I don't so much miss 2018, as it was a mixed bag of a year. But I do miss the hype and joy of having these items to buy and the feeling of new content that as a late arrival to the fandom, I never imagined I'd get to experience.

It was a moment in time unlike any other in the fandom. Maybe I'm romanticizing it too much, but for me and my nostalgia filled eyes...that's what it was. And I'm glad I was there for it. And even if I'm the only person like that who cares...I will mark this day each year until my final day in this fandom.

So just recently found out that Shout!Studio does not have the license to Super Sentai anymore. And I find that very suspicious and disheartening. I was planning on watching Hurricanger this week for 4th of July weekend to see that it's gone, along with other Super Sentai shows that were adapted in the Mighty Morphin era and post Zordon era.

As of right now the only Tokushotsu shows that are available on Tubi are Kamen Rider and Ultraman. Now the reason why I find this suspicious might have something to do with Super Sentai taking a very long hiatus along with the many factors of losing viewership over the years and toy sales being a mixed bag (Power Rangers also going through this same situation) so that is a factor, but the suspicious part is because Hasbro owns the licensing to Power Rangers meaning they would have some some sort of distribution agreement that would have them still keep the Super Sentai brand to stream.

So whatever is going on behind the scenes I'm starting to feel like things aren't working out between Toei and Hasbro but that's just a theory don't take it seriously, this isn't the first time Toei had issues with another company regarding distribution rights, licensing distribution, toy sales AND streaming.

But what I find disheartening about this is because it is not easy finding free streaming services to watch older Super Sentai shows especially the newer seasons (I wanted to watch Lupin Vs. Pataranger, Goseiger and Gokaiger AND Go-Buster). While Hurricanger was my first Sentai I didn't finish it, and went to watch Timeranger and Goaanger. Both Sentai were really good and caught my attention because they were the shows that was adapted to Time Force and Wild Force (favorite seasons btw). And it's because I finished those two seasons I had a great interest on coming back to watch Hurricanger.

BUT I GUESS THAT WONT HAPPEN ANY TIME SOON🙃.

Now the only way you can stream older Super Sentai seasons that were adapted to Power Rangers is the Toku Shout twitch. YouTube isn't streaming it anymore. Well damn.. 😐.

I hope that we are able to have some sort of app in the future where we can watch all the older and current seasons of Super Sentai along with Kamen Rider and Ultraman, but knowing this modern day of streaming we would have to pay some sort of monthly fee just to even watch these shows and I am praying on my knees and begging to Gosei that it wouldn't be the status quo. I'm tired boss🫩

Jack and the cuckoo clock heart head canons!

-Jack seems to be a very polite, kind hearted boy (shown through the GIF where he calls Bridgette Ma’m). He was probably taught by Madeleine to respect others, as Madeleine truly cares for him.

Méliès is secretly Jack’s father, or is a father figure towards him. This is pretty obvious when you see how visibly concerned he becomes when Jack collapses in front of him, literally heartbroken.

Another example of him caring about Jack.

He’d also gladly take a train to Edinburgh to save Jack by any means necessary.

After Jack is resurrected, he has an eye injury which causes him to need goggles. He still thinks about Miss Acacia, but knows she has moved on (this will be a premise for an original story I’m writing).

Miss Acacia never gets over the loss of Jack. She somehow finds the key to Jack’s heart and keeps it as a necklace to remind herself of him. She does eventually find someone else, but never forgets Jack.

Anyways, I hope you like my head canons, I love this movie so much and it’s heartbreaking (no pun intended) that it’s so underrated.

My obsession with Japanese cinema continues! Got the first volume of the Sonny Chiba collection and am loving the movies in it! Watched Detonation! Violent Riders. Excellent film! And another Takashi Miike trilogy, the Black Society Trilogy. Haven't had the chance to watch it yet.
