hi everyone. it appears i've caught a bad case of the very sick disease(TM). thus, here is why shunatsu/natsushu is canon to me and why you all should consider it. (and consider writing more fics for ao3. i can't pull everyone's weight alone, here.)

1) i haven't been able to find the story yet, but Voyage! The Cruise That Meets The Sea is right there. they could have picked anyone to be stranded on an island with switch during natsume's event. who did they pick? that's right, the frenchman with less survival instinct than he has tolerance for twitter users. also if cruise of encounters unbloomed isn't one of the fruitiest cards in the game then i don't know what is.

these are shu's hands. shu is taking a picture of him. he's taking it in PORTRAIT MODE. to CAPTURE THE BEAUTY. "oh wow what a pretty butterfly i must capture this butterfly next to you" THE BUTTERFLY IS NOT IN THAT FRAME DO NOT FOOL YOURSELF.

2) shinsekai. i don't think i need to explain myself but i will anyway. huge event, giant story, natsume knows shu well enough to make uncanny and terrible fakes of him (the smartest person in the room is able to either get a 100% or a 0%), the ending, the ending, the ending, THE ENDING, THE ENDING

3) this fucking card

everyone is offering their shoulder to him. all of his beloved and trusted nii-sans. and whose does he take, without hesitation and without him even offering? that's what i thought. look how comfy they look. i need to start fucking writing that natsushu café au i am going insane

4) this point is mentioned above but these two have a deep bond that goes seldom otherwise seen. even within the other eccentrics, very few get close to either of them besides one another, with the exception to their unit members (i'd say their relationship together actually matches, say, natsumugi for example. plus as far as i'm aware, not to throw shade, but shu hasn't pissed natsume off multiple times about dressing femininely to the point where natsume actually gut punched him really hard? i like natsumugi and all but, like, wow.)

5) sorry not sorry i'm dragging shinsekai into this again. did you see how shocked and overjoyed natsume was when shu called him by his name? when he finally said the word "natsume"? how he felt as though, because of shu, he was just as much a part of the old, odd family as anyone else? and how shu treats him as more of an equal than any other eccentric does????? and this is a display of that effort to do as such?????????????

6) both natsume 5* events so far have included shu in some way. and the event raison d'être happened alongside natsume's feature scout 2 banner. this evidence is paper thin, but i'm including it anyway because it drives me insane.

7) the way they look at each other here. i'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel now, but whatever.

8) i said so.

9) setting aside their history, their dynamic is still perfect. trickster silly insane but actually normal boyfriend x perfectionist no-nonsense normal but actually insane boyfriend? and they're very fond of each other in spite of (or because of) their differences? where they both have the capability of going full tsundere, but regardless are abnormally affectionate with one another? that's perfect. please give me an example of a better dynamic. i will wait here like Hachikō for you to return with one.

still not convinced? fine. you like shumika? consider, then, shunatsumika. you like natsumugi? consider shunatsumugi (and watch as shu and tsumugi get into a fistfight in bed). put your poly of choice all in a room with hidden cameras and witness yaoi take place before your very eyes. or you can be brave and do all four at once in the same ship. go nuts.

 "OW. Ow, OW."

  Shu clicks his tongue. "Stop making such a vulgar noise, Natsume. It is grating."

  "What's that supposed to mean, Shu-SAN? It is because you are hurting me, therefore I seek to express my PAIN."

  "As if my tiny needle could hurt you even the slightest," Shu retorts, brandishing the needle in question. "You agreed to my favour, did you not? So I'd like it if you stop running your mouth and allow me to work in peace and quiet!"

 "...ALRIGHT."

 Natsume sighs. It was never his idea to have Shu ever find out that he used to dabble in cross-dressing, but now that Shu did find out, his life has taken a sharp turn for the worse. Perhaps it is a slight exaggeration, since seeing Shu delighted that he could finally make full use of his creativity by making dresses and the like for a 'willing' participant did make him feel a little happy too - and yet...

  "Shu-SAN," Natsume says, and is acknowledged with a grunt from the man tightening his corset, "I am aware that I agreed to helping you in your dress-making, but I do not recall ever agreeing to wearing dress after dress after DRESS."

  Again, Shu clicks his tongue. "How ungrateful. You might not enjoy it as much as you used to, Natsume, but I believe you have so much potential. Besides, I do need to see if the dress fits well and looks well before I pass it on to my customer; that is where you come in, for me to have a better understanding of my work!"

  "Hmm," Natsume hums, still a little unhappy. Shu nudges at his arms, and Natsume lifts them for Shu to get a better look at his upper body. "As I've said previously, I do not mind helping Shu-san with his needlework from time to TIME. The problem is JUST..."

  "Just?"  Shu stops for a second, looking up at Natsume with furrowed brows.  "What is it, Natsume? Do you hate wearing dresses again? I made it very clear that if you really didn't want to, you have no need to help me just because we are dating."

  Natsume's eyes flit away from Shu's.

  "N-no, it's nothing, I PROMISE. It's just..."

  "What is it? If you don't say it, I will not understand."

  Natsume's cheeks are rosy now, and he sighs. "Alright, ALRIGHT," he says, "it's just that... Shu-san promised he'd make special dresses for me TOO. And you did make one or two some time ago, but ever since you took on more jobs, I haven't received ONE..."

  Shu is silent for a while, his gaze still heavy on Natsume; he can't help but shift in his spot out of awkwardness.

  "I'm SORRY. That was selfish of ME."

  "No, not at all," murmurs Shu, standing up. He walks away from Natsume, as if he were in a trance.

  "S-Shu-san?"

  "Take off that dress, Natsume. It doesn't suit you."

  "H-huh?"

  Shu walks over to one of his closets, and opens it, rummaging around. He finds what he is looking for, and seizes it with a flourish. "To be quite honest, I have been making dresses for you... without you knowing, however."

  "O-oh, I SEE." Natsume's throat is dry, and when his eyes land on the dress Shu had designed and made for him, he still can't find his voice. He stares at it, then reaches out. "Do I... put it ON?"

  "Do as you will."  Shu hands it to him, and instantly Natsume knows Shu has used the finest of his materials to craft the dress. The silk is so smooth he feels as if he's running his hands down a waterfall, and the colour so warm and lovely he feels as though he is bathed in some sort of celestial light.

  The dress Shu had him try on falls to the floor, and Natsume steps into his dress. He angles his arms behind his back to zip it up, but Shu stops him.  "I'll do it for you."

  He zips it up, and Natsume pauses for a second, unsure of what to do in such gorgeous material. Then he twirls, feeling it swish around him like a dream.

  Shu is still looking at him, expectant, so Natsume nods, and tells him, "Thank YOU. I love IT."

the number has gone up from 4 to 5. a 6th is likely on the way. all of them are natsushu. (they're all around 2k words except one that's like 4k.)

3 of these are exclusively natsushu. (the rest are polyoddballs, which is chefs kiss shit, but i need my brainrot.) 8447 words in total between all of them. my fics all collectively have 13496 words so far. and this is only the start. i am going to singlehandedly more than double the amount of natsushu content on ao3. and don't you worry. there is indeed smut in my collection and to-do list.

and i am only getting started.

i have an entire list of fic ideas that i want to write. not all of them are natsushu, but most of them are. i've decided to individually link each ao3 post here once they go live.

oh my god the ask box is open YES ok so. i've had a rly weird rarepair for a Long Time now and all of your headcanons are amazing so i was wondering if you'd be willing to do some for shu and natsume? thank you ;v;

→ natsume is close to all his oddball seniors, especially wataru. he gets along well with the playful kanata too, and rei treats him kindly as if he is his own son; and then there’s shu, a startling resemblance to himself, who treats others with hostility, but is sweet on natsume, which natsume gladly reciprocates.

→ having an enigma like natsume look up to him and admire him makes shu feel very good about himself. he retains his firmness towards his juniors, but can’t deny that he will spoil natsume a little. they are the two ‘excluded’ oddballs after all, so shu is willing to indulge in him, paying for their one-to-one outings.

→ being shown such affection from his mature and attractive senior has heart signs flashing all over natsume’s eyes. he quickly develops a crush on shu, and, while he doesn’t disclose it explicitly, he has vowed to protect shu from whatever evil plagues him. wataru hints this much more explicitly to his friend, and shu gets the courage to ask his junior on a date.

→ now that they’re dating, a lot of their dates aren’t very private, unfortunately; even if hidden away in shu’s house, mika invites his other favourite senior tsumugi to observe them, and the two secretly watch their unit members talk to each other and kiss happily. if natsume demands they leave, tsumugi quickly phones sora to come over too, and natsume can’t help but entertain their strange demands.

→ tsumugi’s relations with his boyfriend also plagues natsume, as shu had somehow heard that natsume had worn dresses and girly clothes as a young child; now, he sews away lots of frilly pink dresses, and orders his cute boyfriend of a junior to wear them. natsume really doesn’t want to, but the delight that crosses shu’s face whenever he wears them is something he can’t deny.

→ shu hates crowds with a passion, but he makes an exception for switch lives. he’s stuck with a bunch of sweaty, screaming girls, and his social jar is completely empty minutes into the live; natsume spots him easily from stage, and is always moved beyond words. after his live, he finds shu, and leaps into his arms, cuddling against his boyfriend and hoping for validation.
