I was thinking... how awkward becoming a Shurimian Ascended would be. Targonian? Complitely normal lookin human just some extra power, add wings at best/worst and glowing eyes. As soon as you get chosen - 100% survival rate. Shurimian? Ho boy! You poor motherfucker! Your entire apperance changes, noone who ever loved you will recognise you, neither by voice nor looks, you may or may not have your genitals removed or complitely deformed (not that many would be brave enaugh to have sex with you post transformation anyway), you can loose your senses, every single activity has to be relearned depending on what changed (soo speaking, walking, writing ect), many activities are impossible to participate in because of physical alterations, you might not even survive or be crippled depending on how well cosmic forces manage to merge your entire organism with animal totem, you can loose control over your animalistic part of psyche, be generally destructive against your will, every other ascended (love them or hate them) has your coordinates at all times (unless you use masking artifacts) not to mention the stares from everyone no matter where you go.
