Fire Axe (Andrew Laeddis x Bridget Kearns headcanons) (both platonic and romantic)

(headcanons take place while Andrew is lucid)

(A lot of these are more supported by the original book Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane)

they're both bi. Andrew has a pref for women and Bridget has a pref for men

they gossip with eachother. Andrew takes their gossip super seriously

they pass notes during group therapy literally all the time and it annoys Dr Sheehan a lot

they cuddle!! She's very physically affectionate with people she trusts!! She leans her head on his shoulder when she's sleepy

They often flirt in a joking manner. No one can tell if they're just bantering or being serious

He helped her steal a psychiatry book from the doctors' lounge at least once

He knows sign language and she has selective mutism. they usually pass notes or just talk (she can talk most of the time now, she feels safe and calm), but signing is also on the table

He considers her very small and has carried her on several occasions and for several purposes (to tease her about her height, to make her taller by putting her on top of him, because she was sleepy etc... it's always consensual)

He thinks she should probably be less chill about stuff

He's tried to explain televisions to her several times now, failed each time

Neither of them like to talk about atomic bombs so he hasn't tried to explain those (literally canon)

there's a rumour among some patients (young crass male patients, old male patients who find Mrs Kearns attractive, female patients of all ages who find one of them attractive...) that they had sex. The staff doesn't share that rumour

the woman doctor from the cave (Dr Solando) was based on her

in the platonic version, the reason why she called Dr Sheehan handsome in that playful manner was to tease ANDREW for having a crush on him while lucid (which he totally does)

they play their own version of Kiss Marry Kill called Kiss Kill Kill. ik it's out of character for Andrew, I just thought it would be funny :(

Andrew, who usually has an extremely short temper, is on his best behaviour whenever in her line of sight because he doesn't want her to witness any aggression anymore

They sit on a bench and smoke cigarettes together after group therapy

They vent to eachother about stuff

this my unfortunately be Andrew Laeddis (tiktok by angfox, her video isn't about shutter island)

like, a big part of his character is that he can't live with himself due to the mistakes he made and that he's so often in denial of his own mistakes. and if you can't acknowledge your mistakes, can you really learn from them?

yet another self insert shutter island fanfic idea

this is more of very heavy Dr Sheehan angst from my previous idea (but it includes me this time)

(I'm currently at the peak of my thinking about this idea and if I don't write it down I will forget it)

(it features my self insert (Willow Tammings) and it also features that angsty idea I had about Dr Sheehan and it also features that one post I made about Shutter Island universe in the 21st century (I think I made one??? the one where the 1954 experiment on Shutter Island is a historica event))

So. basically. Willow Tammings, an 18 year old, somehow started visiting this old man, whom everyone calls Old Teddy and who loves theatre and speaks kinda incoherently and the only name he really says is "Teddy". He doesn't fully know who she is but has accepted her as an endearing occasional presence in his life (he only really remembers her when she's around. severe dementia)

Her special interest is Shutter Island (or, as it's called there, "the 1954 experiment on Shutter Island"). She does genuinely enjoy spending time with Old Teddy, but she's also convinced that he IS Andrew Laeddis, even if Andrew Laeddis was recorded to have died in 1993 (idk when Andrew actually died in canon, but 1993 is when the prologue happens in the book (when Lester writes his diary entry) and I'm being angsty). one time, she checked his hair to see if he has any lobotomy scars and it turned out he didn't (but also he has really dense and somewhat unkempt hair, so...)

She showed him Dennis Lehane's well known series of documents called "1954 experiment on Shutter Island" and showed him pictures of Andrew Laeddis. he recognizes Andrew and starts pointing and saying "Teddy" and making clapping motions (in his diary entry in 1993, the last line is "Teddy would've clapped" and he's talking about something that happened in 1956, so that's clearly something he'd been ruminating on). She doesn't understand but thinks he is Andrew Laeddis. he also soon starts crying and breaks down into tears. Willow tries to comfort him but eventually leaves

Anyways, she comesback the next day only to see Old Teddy shaking. She tries to apologize for yesterday, but he doesn't turn towards her. he's holding a stack of papers (not the 1954 experiment documents, something else) and trying to hide it from her, turning away from her. She thinks he's still angry with her and doesn't want her around and leaves.

When she's gone, he lets the papers fall out from his hands. they're drawings of clocks. basically, the nursing home staff regularly check him from dementia. like every few months or so. and the quickest way to check is to ask the patient to draw a clock. and his clocks were getting much much worse progressively. and he didn't want her to worry about it (because she was like the only one visiting since he didn't have kids and outlived like all his loved ones, including Nurse Emily (whom he was in a lavender marriage with))

Anyways, somewhat unrelated, Willow has a time machine that she plans to use to prevent Andrew's lobotomy. It's cause the 1954 experiment on Shutter Island is her special interest and she's desperate for it to end well.

Her time travel to 1954 ends up successful, and when she travels back she realizes that Old Teddy was Dr Lester Sheehan and now he doesn't have dementia and is living a happy life retired from psychiatry (he regularly stimulates his brain and doesn't just ruminate on the failed experiment so he didn't end up developing dementia). He recognizes her as Dr Tammings who helped the experiment (he has really good memory), but is surprised she didn't age at all and she explains time travel and everything and yay happy ending

Lester Sheehan lives for a very long time (still alive in 2026, cca 100 yo), in a nursing home, but since his mind is so severely degraded due to dementia and none of his documents can be found (extremely messy house (he kept it very clean, but he couldn't anymore)), nobody, including him, knows his name

and since the only name he ever says is Teddy and always looks when someone says "Teddy", that's what they call him
