Independent Bookstore Day 2020!
It’s time again for the Sixth Annual Independent Bookstore Day. We are prepping our shelves and scheduling activities to make this day a blast for our participants. This year, Independent Bookstore Day (or SIBD in Seattle) falls on Saturday, April 25th and features an array of all-day events from 22 unique stores in the Seattle area. Island Books will be open from 8:00am to 8:00pm to celebrate.
Every year, we attract hundreds of visitors to our 22 participating bookstores in the Seattle area. Each store has their own unique way of celebrating. This year our store will be welcoming a handful of local authors to act as celebrity booksellers. We will have donuts and mimosas to start off the morning and a toast at 4:00pm with beer and pizza in the evening. Tattly will be here to sample their amazing tattoos, and we will, of course, be hosting Blind Date with a Book. In the Kids Section we will have a scavenger hunt with special prizes for all our winners. Check in for more details about our schedule as we get closer. We are so excited to get into the celebratory spirit of Independent Bookstore Day.
There are always giveaways throughout the bookstores, with special merchandise (like special edition BOOKS!) available in limited supplies. A big part of Independent Bookstore Day is participating in the Seattle Bookstore Day Challenge! To participate in the challenge, fans can pick up a SIBD passport from us or any participating bookstore on April 25th and use it to collect stamps from each store they visit. There are two ways to play. You can…
visit stores in multiples of three. For every three stores you visit, you’ll receive a one-time only 30% off coupon good at any of the participating stores. If you visit six stores, you’ll receive two coupons, and so on.
visit all 22 participating bookstores on April 25th to receive a Champion Card. This Champion Card entitles you to 25% for every purchase for all participating stores for one whole year. Each store has their own policies in how they honor the card. We at Island Books honor the discount for everything except sale items and chocolate.
Over the past six years, the number of champions has grown from 42 the first year to 650 last year. We hope to see more of you out there rising to the challenge!
