Beska Shepard and “It’s Green?” (ME2)

(Beska) Shepard: “Hell yeah. Put more of the stuff in the…the thing more stuff goes in.”

After three shots of the green stuff (and yes, as a Trek fan I got that joke), some uncut Batarian ale and some ryncol, Beska’s about to party.

And believe it or not, this is as about as close to smiling as she’s been the entire game so far. She’s my grumpy Renegade Shep who is not happy she’s stuck with Cerberus.

I’m gonna do this for my (only, so far) mshenko pair, Cadfayel Shepard and Kaidan Alenko

Who is the most affectionate?

They’re both affectionate, but if you’re talking more often, Kaidan.

Big spoon/Little spoon?

Kaidan/ Cadfayel

Most common argument?

Kaidan is usually unhappy with how Cad jumps headfirst into danger. They’re both sentinels, so they have similar skills and tactics.

Favorite non-sexual activity?

Just being in the same room. Reading, chatting, just spending time in each other’s presence.

Who is most likely to carry the other?

Kaidan. He’s taller and heavier (physical-wise).

What is their favorite feature of their partner’s?

Cad’s favorite is Kaidan’s eyes (amber). Kaidan loves that Cad smiles a lot.

What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

Cad had feelings for Kaidan in the first game, but wasn’t sure if Kaidan reciprocated them. {In-game I didn’t have Gibbed at the time, and Cad had to wait until ME3). At first, Cad tried to hide behind regs, but Kaidan realized something was wrong. After Ashley died at Virmire, both Cad and Kaidan got drunk and they admitted their feelings for each other. At first it was…awkward, but eventually they decided to act on it.

Then Cad died at Alchera…ouch.

Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

No nicknames, but James calls them “L&L” (Loco and L2, respectively). The nickname stuck with the Normandy crew.

Who worries the most?

Depends on what it’s about. Usually, it’s Cad, and Kaidan’s the one who reassures him.

Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant?

Cad. Steak Sandwich, Canadian Lager and a shot of whiskey. :-P

Who tops?

Cad, usually.

Who initiates kisses?

Kaidan, especially if he thinks Cad needs a distraction.

Who reaches for the other’s hand first?

Cad.

Who kisses the hardest?

Cad

Who wakes up first?

Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

Cad. He’s not naturally a morning person. He really needs coffee to get going.

Who says I love you first?

Kaidan. But Cad says it in Welsh:  “Rwy'n dy gari di.”

Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

Post-Reaper War, Kaidan leaves little messages. Usually it’s along the lines of “Love you, have a great day, see you tonight.”

Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

Kaidan tells his mom first, but Cad doesn’t meet the Alenkos until post-war. On the SR-2, everyone thought Cad and Samara would get together (he often went to the starboard observation lounge to talk with her), but people like Kasumi and Tali knew Cad better. Zaeed actually had an argument with Cad after Horizon about ‘that bastard’, though Garrus took Zaeed aside and explained what went on aboard the SR-1.

What do their family/friends think of their relationship?

They think it’s cute, actually. Kaidan’s mom often tells Cad that he works too hard, and if they ever need a getaway at the orchard, just ask. Hannah Shepard considers Kaidan like a second son. Joker won a bet among the original Normandy crew that those two would get together. Samara told Cad that he ‘already had his heart spoken for; just listen to it.” Tali snarks about how Cad and Kaidan talk about more than just omni-tool stats. Zaeed still doesn’t like Kaidan, but the gruff mercenary is cordial.

Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

Kaidan. Just to embarrass the hell of out Cad. Neither of them can dance, and Jack (in particular) razzes both of them.

Who cooks more/who is better at cooking?

Kaidan. Cad’s not a great cook (as much as Cad joked about botulism and hot sauce, Cad does a lot worse in the kitchen. He can do ramen,and maybe a PB&J sandwich and that’s it. XD)

Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines?

Cad. Just because he’s that kind. One time Garrus asked Cad’s advice on how to woo Tali (Cad was kinda the wrong person to ask, but…). The results were interesting. Tali has still never forgiven them for it.

Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times?

Kaidan. And when Cad blushes, he can’t hide it. During the Citadel party, everyone basically told them to get a room and sort it out.

Who needs more assurance?

Cad.

What would be their theme song?

I’d have to think on this one. (Drawing a complete blank. Help?)

Who would sing to their child back to sleep?

Cad (see fic: Lullaby, when Cad sings a lullaby to their adopted son, post-Reaper War)

What do they do when they’re away from each other?

Sometimes their Spectre duties and other missions separate them. Kaidan often hides little notes in Cad’s carry-on stuff that Cad finds while he’s away. Most times they try to talk via QEC at least once during non-classified missions or over the extranet.

After Cad’s death, Kaidan went into an emotional tailspin. They’d only been together for 3-4 months before Alchera. It was Anderson who eventually helped him recover. Running into Cad on Horizon brought all the pain of the 2 years back again.

Ironically, it was Liara (in her guise as the Shadow Broker) who kept Kaidan informed on what Cad was doing while he was with Cerberus. Although he couldn’t talk directly with Cad (too dangerous and compromising), Liara helped him realize that a) yes, it was the same man he loved and b) Cad was stuck with Cerberus due to circumstance, not b/c Cad really trusted the Illusive Man.

15. Well, Maddie’s a big Blasto fan, and she collects the toys, holobooks, etc. Watched all the movies. But she *really* went nuts over the Lego Mindstorms version of Blasto and his Spectre Ship when it came out. Not only did it have all sorts of Lego-like construction pieces, it also came with built-in tech for Blasto’s weapon and ship, and it even had relays for the Blasto figure itself, so he could glow and pulse to communicate, Hanar-style. Lots of pieces to put together, lots of tech and programming, built-in power sources to charge up…

To put it mildly Remy Shepard and Tali were just as eager to ‘help’ Maddie with it than Maddie herself.

(And no, this is not based on real-life with my engineer-minded husband and my younger daughter. :-P Not at all.)

18. Well, there was the one time that the grandson of Admiral Han’Gerrel teased Jona’Dorn vas Rannoch about having the (in)famous Commander Shepard as his adopted father. In retaliation, Jona and his (future wife) Ghera’Reegar hacked into Drehen’Gerrel’s homework account and ‘borrowed’ some of Uncle Joker’s seven zettabytes of ‘interesting visuals’…

Shepard and Tali were proud of Jona’s programming skills and how sneaky he was against Han’Gerrel’s grandson. Definitely on his way to being a tactical genius.  On the other hand…it was embarrassing as hell (Keelah, you did what???).

Bad Poetry (Shepard x Jack, post ME3, Destroy Ending AU, Commander Nate Shepard)

Shepard x Jack, post ME-3, an AU of the Destroy Ending where the Reapers were destroyed but the Alliance didn't find Shepard's body in the London Ruins.

Is he really dead and gone? Spoilers.

Warning: Language.

Jack sighed and sat back in the deck chair. The sun was setting over the Pacific Ocean, and threw bright sparkles over the water. Her mouth twitched into a humorless smile.

Look into the sunset and you’ll see me there.

I’m never gone, I’m everywhere.

I’m in the sun, the air you breathe,

and that is what you mean to me.

“You were always a lousy poet, you damn Boy Scout,” she murmured. “Of all those badges you earned, you missed that one, you fuckin’ idiot.”

Tomorrow marked two years. Two years since the Crucible fired, Two years since he disappeared. She remembered the transport ride to London, her heart hammering in her ribs. They had found signs of him among the ruins: his helmet, his dog tags, the twisted remains of his sniper rifle.

But not his body. Nathaniel James Shepard, the man who managed to bypass her defenses and made her believe again, he was gone. The first year, the Aliiance had officially listed him as MIA. But days ago, they changed Shepard’s status to KIA.

Jack still had hope. She knew Shepard; he was too stubborn to die. No body, no real evidence he was dead, right?

But with each passing day, Jack lost a little of that hope. Shepard was never coming back. He’s gone. He’s gave his life to save everyone. You have to let him go.

But she couldn’t. Goddamn it, he was the King of the Boy Scouts, but he was her Boy Scout. She missed his rakish smile, the bad-boy side he kept hidden from his crew, He had brought out the best in her, and she had encouraged him to (occasionally) indulge in his reckless side.

Jack didn’t notice the two tears that slid down her face. Her heart, her body ached for his touch. No crying, he wouldn’t want that.

Sounds of laughter floated on the wind, growing louder. Jack scrubbed the tears from her face, and just in time, too: the Normandy group was coming back. First and foremost was the little boy holding Uncle Kaidan’s hand. He saw Jack and rushed to her.

“Up! Up!”

She laughed and swooped him into her lap. “Had fun, Big Guy?”

Kaidan chuckled and ruffled his godson’s hair. “Yeah, he’s getting better at dog paddling. We’ll have him swimming laps in no time.”

She arched an eyebrow at him. “Really swimming this time? No biotics?”

The boy shook his head. “Really, Mama.”

“Good.” Jack reached over and peeled wet strands from his face. Her dark brown hair, her lips and ears, her fingers.

But Shepard’s deep forest-green eyes gazed up at her.

Jack smiled as she felt the grief subside a little. I’m never gone, I’m everywhere.

Yes, he was. Bad poetry aside, Jack had a reminder of him, one she always held close to her heart.
