A day in the Dutch countryside | Silent vlog
Some glimpses of my life in a rural part of the Netherlands, including a visit to a pick-your-own-farm, harvesting some wonky vegetables in our backyard, and a little road trip through the countryside of our island.

Dear cozy readers, I’ve been the “in-the-know” person for as long as I can remember. The one who can summarize the day’s top headlines, explain political nuances, or help my family navigate whatever new crisis they’re experiencing. Sometimes, it feels good to be needed and have the answers. But lately, it’s been draining. It’s nice to be helpful, but being everyone’s personal therapist and encyclopedia is exhausting. So, I’ve been trying something new: disconnecting. Letting go of the pressure to stay caught up. The breaking news will find me eventually (it always does), and my family? They’re capable adults who can figure things out themselves, too, even if it’s easier to have me be the problem solver. I recognize the privilege of disconnecting, but I’m learning that peace often requires distance. 📖 Soft Reading: My Hygge Home by Meik Wiking My long-awaited solo trip to Copenhagen is just days away, and I couldn’t be more excited. To wrap up my pre-trip reading, I picked up my final Meik Wiking book—My Hygge Home. It’s all about embracing hygge through intentional design, soft light, and warm spaces. I’m hoping this trip doubles as a bit of “research” for creating and embracing more hygge back home. 🏙️ Mindful Pastimes: Random Day Trips into the City On a whim, I decided to spend Saturday in New York. Usually, I wait for a “big reason” to justify a city trip, but this time I didn’t overthink it. I wanted to get my daily steps in, there was an Ikea pop-up event in Union Square, and I needed some basics from Uniqlo for my trip. That was enough. It was refreshing to let a day unfold without expectations. 📵 Wholesome Scrolling: Not Scrolling During my train ride to and from New York, I forgot my charger. After panicking for a minute, I decided to just…not scroll. I looked out the window for the total of four hours, letting my mind wander. The time passed quickly, and I genuinely felt lighter. My eyes, mental health, and phone battery thanked me for the digital break. 🐕 Calm Viewing: introvert & dog on YouTube I’ve started diving into silent vlog creators on YouTube and my new favorite is introvert & dog. It’s a peaceful channel featuring a man in Oslo living quietly with his dog, Mochi. There’s soft music, thoughtful closed caption narration, and serene Scandinavian vibes. It’s the kind of content that reminds me what I want my life to feel like: calm, deliberate, and cozy. 🍰 Simple Bites: Vanilla Chai Cake For years, I’ve been confident in baking macarons, non-sourdough breads, and loaves. Cakes, however, have always failed me. This month, I decided to tackle that head-on with a vanilla chai cake, baking it three times until I got it right. The result: a moist, spiced, autumnal dream. The frosting process is still...a journey, but it’s all part of the process of learning from zero. ☕ Comfort Finds: Coffee (for the first time ever) Confession: I’ve been a lifelong coffee hater. I never liked the smell and always resented how normalized caffeine dependency has become. But in the spirit of trying new things (and preparing for Copenhagen’s café culture), I’ve started easing into it with light roast Starbucks ground coffee. To my surprise, I’ve come to enjoy it! I still plan to keep things simple by avoiding new fancy gadgets in my kitchen, but if you have any instant coffee recommendations, I’m all ears. 💭 Warm Thoughts "If you’re a woman who has cultivated a rich inner world, your most valuable gift is your energy...Honour your boundaries and revoke access when needed." — @maneeshasem on Substack (re: romantic relationships but very relevant here, too) Wishing you a little quiet where you need it most this week.
With softness and peace, Anna
