im thinking about the way eleanor was used to foreshadow silver’s eventual betrayal....genuinely its driving me insane. like. they’re not very similar characters but what they do have in common at the beginning of the show is an intense selfishness they’re both fucking over whoever they have to to get what they want. early in the show eleanor rejects max bc max is not enough for her. later in the show she’s trying to explain herself to max and she says i had invested so much of myself in nassau i wasn’t sure where i ended and it began and i dont know what would have been sharp enough to make the cut. billy says to madi flint and silver became so close i wasnt sure where one ended and the other began and i feared separating them would destroy them both. eleanor’s major development lies in committing herself to woodes rogers and silver’s lies in committing himself to flint and madi. when she says “my commitment to you is inviolable” when he says “i am committed to flint i am committed to madi.” when eleanor surrenders nassau to the pirates and rogers is so hurt and betrayed but cant quite hate her because he still loves her and the maid says to rogers “this betrayal was an act of love.” the way that silver’s character development IN THE SAME WAY is marked by the first true and inviolable commitment he has ever made and then finally by betrayal as an act of love
