Silver Nitrate (AgNO3)
Synopsis
Silver Nitrate (She/Her), also goes by several older names, such as Lunar Caustic (or just Luna), Nitric Acid Silver, Lapis Infernalis and Argentous Nitrate. She is a very simple compound, and the cheapest of the Silver salts. She tends to be a precursor to many other Silver compounds, such as those used in photography.
She has many advantages over other compounds, such as the fact she's non-hygroscopic, unlike her sisters Silver Fluoroborate and Silver Perchlorate. She's used to produce photographic film along with the Halogens in the form of Silver-Halide compounds, and much like the explosive personalities of the Halogens, she is also used to make many Silver-based explosives, such as Silver Fulminate, Azide or Acetylide.
When reacted with a basic chemical, she forms Silver Oxide, a nitrate compound, and Water.
She is not very soluble in most organic solvents, other than Water and Acetronitrile. Also, don't mix her with Ethanol - she'll explode. She also shouldn't be kept near any organic compounds due to her status as an oxidiser.
She also has many uses in medicine as an antiseptic, and in the treatment of diseases such as Gonorrhea. In the form of Fused Silver Nitrate, she can be used as a cauterising agent, to treat wounds.
She also has many more mundane medical uses, such as treating nosebleeds. She used to be used as an antibiotic until more effective ones were discovered, and she had a bad reputation due to her association with the condition Argyria.
She tends to unfortunately cause vibrantly coloured stains on the skin, which are typically pretty long-lasting. However, this makes her a key ingredient of indelible ink, which is used in elections to mark individuals and prevent double-voting.
She can also be used in stained glass to give it a variety of colours, from pale yellow to deep orange, or even gold.
Personality
Silver Nitrate is generally a very friendly and outgoing catto, who readily bonds with many other elements, particularly the Halogens, Hydrogen and Carbon (such as in the form of Alkenes) and Oxygen. She bonds really well with Oxygen.
She's not only flammable, but she is also an oxidiser. Due to her corrosive properties and slight toxicity, she likes getting into general hijinks with Oxygen and her friends.
She's also good friends with Nitrogen, not only on N's presence within Silver Nitrate, but also in her use to prevent the production of Ethylene in plants, which keeps flowers alive for longer when cut.
She's also a good confidant of Holmium on her accountability of preventing voter fraud.
Appearance
She shares much of her appearance with Silver, though she wears a flower on her left ear like Nitrogen and carries a pen on the other. She also carries a first-aid kit with her.
She also lacks Silver's star-shaped belly patch. She is still geometric in shape on account of the shape of her solid crystals, and is slightly whiter due to the bright and shiny colour of her crystals.
