Pokémon Silver Nuzlocke - Day 1
I overslept to an absurd degree. I spent so much of the night awake from excitement that I slept through all of my alarms and woke up at 3:35 in the afternoon. I scrambled out of bed and hurried downstairs. On my way out the door - hair a mess and clothes half on - mom stopped me and made sure that I didn’t leave the house in such a pitiful state. She gave me my pokegear and told me to stop by and see Professor Elm. I rushed out the door and went directly over to his place. He asked me to run an errand for him and said I could take a Pokémon with me. I was BEYOND excited. I considered the three options but ultimately selected a Cyndaquil. I gave him the nickname Fira after the second stage fire spell from the final fantasy games. I never liked “firaga” as a name so even though it’s not the superlative fire spell it still seemed like a good fit. And that did prove to be true. Fira and I spent some time getting to know each other and building strength in the woods outside of town. There was a huge flock of Pidgey and the odd Rattata here and there.
After some warm-up fights, a few tips back to medicate some scuffs and bruises, and learning of a new attack (smokescreen) Fira and I set out on the journey Professor Elm gave us: to find Mr. Pokémon and talk to him. We headed west to Cherrygrove city and had a few run-ins with Pokémon. We encountered the elusive Sentret and it’s a good thing me made it when we did. Pokémon out in the wild are more aggressive than their domesticated counterparts. Many were coming up to us in the tall grass and trying to fight us. Maybe this is a fear response or maybe they are just grumpy. Either way, Fira took a few hits and needed to heal up at the Pokémon canter.
From there we headed north along Route 30. I encountered a Weedle for the first time and learned a very important lesson about making sure to have antidotes on hand. Despite Fira’s toughness, poison can be dangerous to anyone. We finally made it to Mr.Pokémon’s house and saw what this little adventure was all about. He gave us a “Mystery Egg” and said he wanted Professor Elm to look at it. As cool as this was, I was a little daunted at the task of the journey back. But I knew Fira was up to the challenge. While there, I was also given a Pokédex by Professor Oak. This will come in very handy as I explore the world of Pokémon.
As SOON as I left Mr.Pokemon’s house, Professor Elm called me and said that a disaster had occurred. He neglected to inform me what that disaster was before he hung up so I rushed back as fast as I could. On the way I encountered a boy a little older than myself who challenged me to a battle. I was not particularly in the mood (nor did I really have the time) but he wouldn’t let me pass until I met his challenge. He had a Totodile. I was pretty impressed. I had only ever seen one in Elm’s lab so seeing one here was pretty crazy. I was afraid because Totodile is a water type, but neither of them were strong enough yet to really have elemental abilities yet. Fira’s training on our short journey so far proved enough to bear his Totodile. He left shortly after proclaiming his name to be Adam and that he would become the best Pokémon trainer. I jogged back to New Bark town as fast as I could, avoiding the aggressive flock of Pidgey and headed straight for Elm’s Lab, hoping that whatever the disaster was didn’t hurt anyone too badly.
