Olive Thomas- I think The Flapper is a very cute one and another great comfort watch. Honestly,some of the films of hers that have survived can be hard to find! A lot of the time you can only find parts of them online or they're in another language. Im kinda dying for a silent geared streaming site that offers some of those silents ppl have been hiding away for the occasional festival screaming. Let the masses see the silents that still exist!!

Olivia De Havilland- The Heiress, and The Snake Pit. I am the complete opposite of a fan of Erroll Flynn so unfortunately that knocks out a lot of her earlier career for me.

Jean Arthur- The More the Merrier, The Talk of the Town, A Foreign Affair (shes my fave part of that movie. Most ppl focus on Marlene but Jean is right there! stealing the show!!) and Only Angels Have Wings.

she’s fairly short - 5′3″/160cm

despite that, she never wears heels bc she can’t walk in them and she would much rather be comfortable than fashionable

she’s a little on the curvy side

she has thick, wavy brown hair cut fairly short (she doesn’t have the time or the inclination to deal with any more complicated hairdos)

her hair is often a little messy, either because of the wind or because she forgot to brush it

her skin tone is fairly pale and she blushes easily (something she’s quite self-conscious about)

she’s not known to be particularly well-dressed, but she knows what she likes and sticks to it (mostly wide-leg pants, simple a-line skirts, cotton blouses, tennis shoes, cardigans and pullovers in blue, green and grey)

her face is a pretty nondescript oval shape and her bone structure isn’t particularly strong

her eyes are a hazel color somewhere between green and brown, and they’re considered to be her most attractive feature

she usually looks tired and a little frantic, because that’s how she usually feels

despite her tendency to be anxious, it’s really easy to make her laugh, so seeing her smile isn’t exactly unusual either 

she has small hands and short fingers, and she keeps her nails short so they don’t get in her way

she’s one of those people who seems to be constantly in motion, usually walking around in circles, because sitting still makes her anxious (is this me? am i projecting? maybe. you’ll never know)

she almost always has a pencil tucked behind her ear

she’s very bad at masking her facial expressions and has been known to accidentally make disgusted faces in public when people do things she doesn’t like

she has a scar on her hip from when she cut herself on a nail as a child, but she never really tells the story bc people don’t ever really see the scar

she only very rarely wears makeup bc she can’t be bothered to spend money on it. the most she’ll do is lipstick and mascara for parties

Katharine Hepburn & Mary Martin

Katharine Hepburn – Who do you admire? Why? A lot of different people, especially a few of my friends who have overcome a lot of difficulty and still manage to always be there for others.

Mary Martin – Can you cook/bake at all? Yes! I’m actually quite a good baker, and I’m a decent cook too, but only vegetarian dishes, I honestly don’t know how to cook meat.

Olivia de Havilland

A legend. Truly. People don’t talk about her like they should and it’s a shame bc she was a trailblazer for herself, actors of that time and even actors today. Honestly, everyone in the acting world should pay her respect bc had she not gone after Warner Bros. and won the lawsuit who knows how that would have affected Hollywood/actors/movies/etc. She did what other actresses tried to do but didn’t succeed. Despite the studio being dicks and blacklisting her, she set the tone on how they treat their actors and because of her, other actors and actresses were able and motivated to stand up for themselves. To this day, with suing Ryan Murphy (LMAO) she fights for her rights and respect, which she deserves all of it. 

Admittedly I’ve seen very few of her films (I’ve seen more of Joan’s movies but I know more about Olivia’s life - it makes no sense I know lol) but there’s this quote I remember reading where she said something along the lines of how she thought the bad girl roles were boring to play, that playing the good girl roles required more from an actress. That is something that has stuck in my mind ever since I read it. It’s something that I think about when I watch her movies or any movie with the “good girl” vs “bad girl” characterization. I’ll use an Olivia example: Gone With the Wind. Scarlett/Vivien has a very strong presence, takes up the scenes and the movie, automatically the character you think of. Right? Okay so now Melanie/Olivia is strong in a more quiet way. But I think bc she’s a “quiet strength” it’s easy to dismiss her when, imo, she’s one of the strongest characters in the movie and very emotionally complex. She’s compassionate, empathic and forgiving to people and times that don’t show her the same kindness. I’m rambling at this point but idk why but that quote kind of changed how I watch movies and think about the characters I’m watching. Things she did: THAT.

Ann Blyth and Rita Hayworth

Two of my favorites! This should be fun! ☺

Ann Blyth (AKA MY BABY)

1. How many movies I’ve seen them in

Ten! Mildred Pierce, Brute Force, Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid, Red Canyon, Thunder on the Hill, I’ll Never Forget You, The Student Prince, The King’s Thief, Kismet, and The Helen Morgan Story! I definitely haven’t seen all of her films, but a lot of them are hard to find and I keep watching the same few that I love over and over again instead of watching new ones!

2. How I feel about their acting

Okay, I want to be biased because she’s the apple of my eye, but she did kind of have a theatrical air about her and overacted sometimes. I still adore her, though!

3. How I feel about them as a person

I think she’s super sweet, an angel honestly! She loves her fans and her family so much, and I do know that we have differing political views, but she hasn’t said anything that I know of that I dislike!

4. My favorite role they played

Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid, for sure! I could watch that movie over and over again for the rest of my life and still be happy. It’s the one movie of hers that I always go back to.

5. My least favorite role they played

The King’s Thief. IT WAS SO BORING. She was fine in it and I loved some of her costumes, but there was nothing unique about it at all. I also can’t believe that they DUBBED A CLASSICALLY TRAINED SINGER for The Helen Morgan Story, and I don’t care for that film too much as a result.

Rita Hayworth (LOVE OF MY LIFE)

1. How many movies I’ve seen them in

Thirteen! Paddy O’Day, Only Angels Have Wings, Angels Over Broadway, The Strawberry Blonde, Blood and Sand, Tales of Manhattan, You Were Never Lovelier, Cover Girl, Tonight and Every Night, Gilda, Down to Earth, The Lady From Shanghai, and Pal Joey! I need to see waaaaay more, though!

2. How I feel about their acting

She was the greatest actress of all time, in my opinion. Hands down. The example that I always give is the scene in Gilda when she comes back to the Hotel Centenario after running away. It gets me every time, and I really think that it’s the best acting that I’ve ever seen on film.

3. How I feel about them as a person

Rita was so amazing! She was completely unlike her onscreen persona and actually really shy and sweet in real life, which honestly makes me love her even more. She’s just my favorite ever.

4. My favorite role they played

This is impossible! I think Rusty Parker in Cover Girl is the closest to my heart, though. Everything about it is perfect and she was so great with Gene! It’s definitely in my top three favorite films of all time.

5. My least favorite role they played

None, nope.
