Silverball Strike, the pinball TTRPG!
Overall idea, character "Stats" and Making A Shot
Alright, first post on this blog. I could make a lengthy introduction, but really, I just want to get my thoughts about my current game, Silverball Strike out there.
So, let's first talk about the basic idea and concept: You play as characters living in a world where pinball is a big deal. You're all pinball players taking part in tournaments. You play against each other. Being good lets you influence fate itself. Yes, this is a PvP TTRPG.
I'll probably make more posts going into the lore of the world and mechanics that aren't explicitly about pinball... once I've thought of them. For now, let's focus on your characters' "stats" and the first of two possible actions you can take when it's your turn to play pinball: Making A Shot.
Every character starts a pinball match with the following "stats":
3 balls
0 warnings
High Tilt Tolerance (HTT) of 6
Low Tilt Tolerance (LTT) of 5
Control of 1
At the beginning of each match, each player rolls a D6 and adds the result to their Control. Whoever has the highest Control gets the first turn. In case of a tie, all players involved in the tie roll again and just compare their die results without adding to their Control. Keep doing that until there is no more tie.
When it's your turn, choose to either Take A Shot or Nudge (unless it's your very first turn or you lost a ball last turn, then you have to Take A Shot). Again, today, I'll just talk about Taking A Shot:
When Taking a Shot, you simply reveal cards from a 52 card deck (I'm still debating whether everyone draws from the same deck, or each player has their own) and then choose cards from the revealed ones to take. You have to take at least one, and can't take more than your current Control. You also lose 1 point of Control for each card you take. If you would reach 0 Control, instead lose a ball.
Each numbered card (2-10) you take gets added to your Pile. Each face card (Jack, Queen, King, and Ace!) gets placed in their own pile. Face cards have special effects that I'll talk about in a later post.
Aaaaaand... that's how you Take A Shot in Silverball Strike. Next post is probably gonna be about Nudging.
