Etienne's soup turned out quite well. Due to the pastries, neither was all that hungry, but it would keep on the fire for the others and afters. At his urging, the took one bowl to split, sitting out on bench in the churchyard.
After the heat of the day, the night promised a small break. It was the last moments of twilight, and fireflies began to flicker and dance about. The taverna down by the list was selling off everyting they didn't wan to carry home, and it sounded like a raucous time was being had by all.
Setting the empty bowl aside, he offered a napkin he'd brought from the kitchen.
"So, you want to know what happened with the eunuch, do you?"

Dinner was delicious, and Jalon was happy that they could share it; she knew she would be unable to eat much on her own. Even without the muffin, she wouldn't eat much. Bringing bread with them to sop up what remained of the broth was almost too much for her. Dinner won.
She gratefully took the napkin and patted at her lips with one corner, saving the rest of the cloth for him if he needed it. Why she hadn't thought to bring any with them was behind her. Distracted, again.
Immediately, she perked up at that, smiling at the potential for resolution.
"Is the sky beautiful?" she joked by way of answering. "I promise that I will try not to interrupt."
