to celebrate the 10th birthday of the show that rewired my brain and almost 7 years of me having to live with schrödinger's Flint, i decided to redraw a piece from 2017. this is a self-indulgent au where Madi convinces Silver not to shoot Flint/send Flint to Savannah and in stead they all run their little inn together okay? what's that? you're asking if Flint would be able to adjust to such a life? (would any of them?) of course he would, don't be silly, he could kick troublesome drunks out into the street, glare ominously at customers from behind the bar, pick fights, and threaten people who owe money :))) many happy returns to this fucking masterpiece

the way that echoes of the flinthamiltons relationship continue to haunt the narrative compel me so. esp the way those echoes follow flint into his burgeoning partnership with madi and silver. "what is it that you want my help with?" "i want you to try to talk me out of it" + silver talking flint out of his desperate plan to make the maroon queen a hostage. "you'll fight a war so we can make a life?" "that isn't a war, that's a fucking nightmare". flint telling miranda "things will get better here" + his speech to silver about how he believes there is an end to the suffering cuased by war (and neither silver nor miranda really believing it). miranda gifting james a copy of don quixote and then madi quoting the same book at him, as they have an intellectual discussion similar to the ones he used to have with thomas. "whatever he is to you. whatever you are to him." "what he shared with you was entirely something else". the face that flint makes watching miranda from the window and feeling unable to share in the moment of domesticity is the same face he makes watching silver kiss madi at their reunion. hey hi for the love of god hello.
