Personally I don’t think it’s a twin I think it’s Ciels body. That when Ciel made the contract he already died so instead of putting him in a dead damaged body Sebastian made a new one for his soul. Then you get the nutty Undertaker who has made zombies in the past goes to resurrect him gets a soulless being. Hence the writing on the wall “who took the candy from my tummy” in a reference to the missing soul. Until Yana directly tells me otherwise I’m sticking with that theory.
I feel like this is pretty heavily contradicted by the canon, probably most fundamentally by the fact that our!Ciel kept all his injuries post-contract, including the brand, but also all the cuts etc. However, he didn’t have the stab wound, and why would Sebastian keep every wound except for the one that actually killed him, via a resurrection.
Also, every time we see the ring in Ciel’s hand when he’s just been saved by Sebastian, his hand and sleeve (and the ring) are covered in blood (in contrast to the rest of him, which is just wounded). We never ever see why. The strong theory there is that Ciel literally stole the Phantomhive ring from his twin’s belly. In fact, in the latest manga volume cover, we can see our!Ciel holding the same knife that was used to stab the Ciel on the plinth. I think we’re going to get confirmation about Ciel stealing Earl Phantomhive’s identity and taking the ring (’the candy from his belly’ - ). Which will also let a whole lot of slightly vague lines in the canon make sense, lol.
Incidentally, it was common practice in the Victorian era for signet rings and similar to be swallowed by heirs in cases of abduction, due to their value. To me, a dead-but-resurrected Ciel makes less sense than 10 years of consistent hints re: Ciel having a twin when contrasted with the content in the actual canon. (Especially when considering that BDs need to have cinematic records, unless it turns out that UT can manufacture ones from scratch. So far, he’s only able to reanimate BDs when he has cinematic records. We already know our!Ciel has kept his CRs.)
But anyway, we’ll find out soon enough. And by ‘soon enough’ I mean in like the next two years, lol. Hopefully sooner, but this storyline has been sloooow.

As a Canadian I completely feel you on the usa grammar thing so good on you for not submitting to that
*high fives*
Tbh it’s one of the things that pisses me off about the m/m industry the most, is that most of the publishers cut costs by having ‘US grammar’ in their submission requirements.
It’s the job of their in house editors to change UK or Canadian or Australian grammar into US grammar, because that’s what they’ve trained for. But me? No, I haven’t trained for that. I know some of the conventions of US grammar, but not all of them, and how am I supposed to catch everything when I’m someone who has lived, breathed and been surrounded by Australian grammar all of my life? And it’s sufficiently intimidating enough that you end up with people outside of the US who complete entire novels and go straight to self-pub because of the unreasonable expectations of publishing houses. And it is unreasonable. You are being asked to do extra labour for free, when they will not pay you for that level of editing, and they don’t want to pay their own editors to do it.
As someone who has also published science fiction, I’m also aware of how many other publishers in other genres specifically don’t do this. It’s very specific to the m/m industry in particular, and it is a cost cutting device. I get that publishing houses don’t make that much, but god, they make way way more than the author ever does. I had never in my life seen a publishing house (including plenty of US ones) requesting ‘US grammar’ when open to all English language submissions, until I entered into the world of m/m. Most of the time prior to this, if you wanted US grammar, you just had your in house editor/s do that since hell, that’s one of the many reasons you hire editors.
In the past, when I’ve had works accepted by US publishers outside of m/m, they’ve just edited the Australian grammar to US because amazingly, they know what to look for better than I do, since they’re US editors. The m/m industry? *grumbles*
I could talk in a scathing way about this for approximately a month and a half, but my dislike of the homogenisation of grammar into ‘US grammar’ as though that’s somehow universal, when some of the best and most well-known m/m authors are in the UK, Canada or Australia is like...a thing. I hate it. (And I especially hate it when you write a book set in the UK or Canada or Australia and a big publishing house goes ‘yeah submit that in US grammar please’) I not only don’t agree with it, I will take measures to make sure US readers get exposed to other forms of English-language grammar because god, it’s not going to kill them. If someone doesn’t want to read Australian grammar because it’s ‘too hard’, they probably won’t enjoy my writing anyway.
silverliening replied to your post: Have you heard of the fandom thing known as...
Oooh I’ve seen this around a bit. I’ve actually read a few fics and seen pics where it’s not tagged and so I think it’s more popular than people know. If I’m not mistaken it originated in the Kpop boy band fandoms … which is a little odd but considering the one direction fandom gave us the flower crown what can you do. The disease is caused by unrequited love and the flowers the person cough up are often related to the object of their affections. In some versions the ‘disease’ can be cured
It may be more common on Tumblr Kpop fandoms vs AO3? I mean on AO3, there’s literally only 500 fic results if you search ‘Hanahaki’ across all fandoms, which is a drop in the fanfiction ocean theme wise (and overwhelmingly anime and/or Kpop centric -> I’m not active in any anime fandom/s except YOI and Kuroshitsuji -> and I don’t read fanfiction for YOI). It may be more popular on Tumblr, or one of those things that’s growing quickly in popularity on Tumblr, while AO3 doesn’t reflect that accurately yet (sort of like red string of fate - v. popular on Tumblr, really not reflected re: content on AO3). Google wasn’t very helpful at all, maybe I should’ve just Tumblr searched it, lol. Even flower crowns and their origin are on Fan Lore; Hanahaki isn’t.
I think it’s one of those things that feels way more common/prevalent than it is depending on the fandoms you’re in and the saturation you see in your circles as a result. I mean to me, Thorki (Thor/Loki) feels like a massive pairing that everyone knows about (it has 27,000 fanfiction results on AO3 alone, after all), but even that’s a less common pairing in the Marvel fandom and many people have been active in MCU all their lives and never even read a Thorki fic, let alone know the common tropes in those 27,000 fics. And within those 27,000 fics, there’d probably be a lot of themes that are found in 500-1000 fics and feel really popular as a result, but...well, you end up in echo chambers in fandom where something is reflected to you over and over and over again because of your circles, but rarely reflects what is trending in ‘big fandom.’ (Not that RotG is big fandom either, but anyway).
From your second comment though - that it’s connected to soulmate trope/s, it doesn’t really seem like a trope I’d like in general. I’m not a huge fan of soulmate storylines or themes.

Ah I’m not actually in the Kpop fandom ^^ I find shipping real people weird but to each their own. So finding it in fandoms I am in is SO SO rare. It’s more of an unrequited love thing than a soul mate thing I just draw similarities in it as like… a world state. I’m not sure how to word it lol Having had a one sided love before I like Hanahaki better and can identify with the feeling of suffocation. Thorki ftw tho I swear I’ve read half of the thorki fics on Ao3 (or I had about a year ago)
I hope with time AO3 delivers more Hanahaki fics for you! <3 There’s nothing worse than having a theme you love and not being able to find as much of it as you want!
And haha, Thorki shippers forever. *high fives* :D I fucking love that fandom. I also read Stoki (Steve/Loki), but that’s like *tiny* by comparison.

Trying to distract myself from grieving the loss of my cat. I had her for 19 years, got her when I was 5
Oh I’m so sorry to hear that. I remember when we had to let go of our cat when I was younger, and he was the cat I grew up with and so on, it’s a very difficult loss. *offers hugs*

Was supposed to have friends over; only one ended up coming by. But she brought lots of food and we shared it and had a nice chat, and now she's left and I have the rest of the evening to bask in having the house to myself again.
Oooo, that sounds like a good evening! Food and quiet company and then a quiet end of night as well! That’s so awesome. <3 I hope it reflects the tone of your weekend too!
