Jake has been on tour for nearly 14 months. He loved being on tour. He loved meeting his fans, and he most importantly loved performing.
But he couldn't help but miss you. For the past 14 months, you both didn't have that much time for each other. If you were lucky you would only see each other like once a month. And if you did, it would only be for a few hours since Jake's schedule was too busy.
Jake and his band were literally working their asses off.
In a time span of 14 months they travelled through 23 cities without getting any rest. And Jake was so exhausted.
Of course he tried to smile through the pain.
Which was easy at first, but ended up getting harder and harder every single day. He needed you so bad.
And that's when he started to hate being on tour for that long.
Luckily for him, tour was finally over. And he was on his way to your house. To him it felt like it's been decades since he had you in his arms. He sleepily dragged his feet towards your door, feeling jet lagged from the long flight home.
He could barely keep his eyes open, that's how tired he was.
He lifted his hand to ring your doorbell, and it didn't even take you a second to open the door since you were already impatiently waiting for him to finally arrive at your doorstep.
Jake's sleepy eyes lit up as soon as he saw you. You were already in your pyjamas, looking as beautiful as ever. You quickly pulled Jake into your arms, throwing your arms around his neck as you held him tight for the first time in a while. You felt him sigh into your neck as he pulled you closer by your waist.
You didn't say anything for a while. You just stood there, tangled in each other's arms.
'' Hey '' You finally whispered with a soft smile on your face.
Jake didn't answer tho.
Instead, you heard another shaky sigh come from his mouth. The kind of sigh he let out whenever he tried not to cry. And before you knew it he lost the fight against himself and broke out into tears, not letting go of you.
You knew exactly what to do.
You pulled him inside your house before leading him towards your couch, getting comfortable on it before gently pulling him back into your arms.
Jake kept crying silently.
He didn't even know why he was crying, but it felt so good to just let it all out.
It was probably because all the exhaustion, the built up pressure and the stress from touring around for that long was finally wearing off.
You gently played with his hair, comforting him in a way only you could.
''I'm s-so exhausted...'' He mumbled through his tears.
'' I know, baby. I know '' You sighed deeply before softly kissing his forehead.
'' Sometimes I feel like I can't do this job anymore ''
'' I can't even imagine how drained you must be feeling right now. But you're here now. You're in my arms. And we're all so proud of you, Jake. You did so amazing ''
Jake let out another quiet sob.
'' It's just so fucking hard to keep smiling all the time. Even when i don't feel like it. Everyone always expects me to be perfect but sometimes that's just not possible ''
'' And that's okay. It's okay not to be okay, Jake. You're only human ... ''
'' Yeah but they don't get that ''
Jake's words broke your heart into a million pieces. Because you knew he was right. People only saw the the Idol in him, and never who he truly was.
Just Jake. A simple human being.
'' You need to get some rest '' You said, gently wiping away his tears with your thumb. He melted into your touch, making you smile.
'' God, yes I do. '' He said, snuggling up against you.
You traced your fingers over his facial feautures, watching his eyes get heavier and heavier until they finally closed. You caressed his back as he was falling asleep, feeling yourself get sleepy as well.
And that's how you both spent the night on your couch. The fire place was on, and you were both wrapped in a huge blanket. And even though it was getting pretty hot, Jake didn't let go of you.
Not even once.
You were already wide awake when he opened his eyes the next morning. The fire stopped burning, the morning sun was already up and you could both feel it's warm rays on your skin. Jake smiled softly when he caught you staring at him, shyly hiding his face in the crook of your neck.
'' I didn't even greet you properly yesterday... '' He whispered against your skin before leaving a lingering kiss on it.
His raspy morning voice gave you goosebumps all over your body.
'' It's okay, baby. You had your reasons ''
'' I'm sorry ''
'' Don't you dare apologize '' You said, straddling his lap.
'' No really... I shouldn't have cried that much. Yesterday was supposed to be a good day for us. ''
'' Jake. Stop it. ''
'' Okay. I'm sorry ''
You raised your eyebrow at him, clearly not finding him funny. Jake on the other side broke into a fit of giggles before looking up at you, smiling lightly.
'' I love you '' He said.
You carefully leaned down towards him, resting your forehead against his.
'' I love you so much more '' You whispered, gently brushing your nose against his
Jake couldn't help but close the gap between you, pulling you into the kiss you've been looking forward to for months. Your hands cradled either side of his face, thumbs gently brushing over his cheeks.
The kiss wasn't urgent.
It was slow - Jake's lips pressing gently against yours. It lingered, unhurried. You melted into him, fingers now sliding into his hair ; tugging just enough to tell him: don't you ever stop. Jake's hands gripped your waist, thumbs sweeping under the hem of your shirt, not to undress, but to finally feel. To remind himself this wasn't a dream. His mouth opened slightly against yours, coaxing a deeper kiss, one that tasted of missed nights and soft confessions. When you pulled apart, it wasn't far. Lips barely an inch away. Breath shared, eyes locked. You didn't want this moment to end yet.
'' I missed you so fucking much you have no idea ''
You nodded.
'' I think I might've missed you a bit more ''
'' Impossible ''
The second kiss you shared was messier. Hungrier, but still slow. Like you were trying to memorize the exact shape of each other's mouths. Your fingers curled at the nape of his neck, pulling him even deeper into the kiss.
You didn't rush it.
You just kissed, again and again. As if you could make up for every second you'd been apart, pouring comfort and heat and everything into the space between you. Nothing mattered.
Only the quiet rhythm of your breathing.
Only the slow burn of lips meeting lips.
Jake carefully flipped you over, hovering over you. He left one last lingering kiss on your lips before pulling you into his arms again, breathing in your comforting scent.
'' Thank you for always staying with me ''
'' I'm gonna stay with you until we're grey and old, Jake ''
Jake smiled as he played with your hands.
'' Good. Didn't plan on letting you go anyway ''
You smiled.
Jake looked so peaceful.
So... Human.
'' You realize we can't stay in bed all day, right ? ''
Jake lifted his head, eyes narrowing in mock suspicion.
'' Why would you say something so dangerous? ''
'' Because we need to eat ! '' You teased, poking his side gently.
'' You know... food ? That thing you love almost as much as me ? ''
Jake groaned dramatically and rolled onto his back, one arm draped over his eyes.
''Don't make me choose this early in the morning'' He complained.
You propped yourself up on one elbow, smirking down at him.
'' Okay. Hypothetical. There's me, holding pancakes... and bacon... wearing nothing but your shirt.
Jake peeked out from under his arm, a slow lazy grin forming.
'' You win ''
'' I thought so ''
With a stretch and a deep sigh Jake finally sat up, ruffling his hair into even more of a mess. He reached out and tugged you toward him again, catching you around the waist and pulling you back into his lap.
'' Wait '' He said, voice soft now.
'' One more kiss. Just one ''
You leaned in, brushing your lips gently against his. Soft, warm, unhurried. Jake deepened it slightly, his hand cradling the back of your neck, thumb stroking gently just behind your ear. When he pulled back, he pressed his forehead to yours and whispered...
'' Okay... now pancakes ! ''
You stood by the stove in Jake's oversized t-shirt, sleeves falling past your elbows, flipping pancakes with one hand and stealing bacon with the other. Jake leaned against the counter, sipping coffee and watching you with a quiet smile that didn't leave his face.
'' Marry me '' He said suddenly.
You glanced over your shoulder, arching a brow.
'' Because of the pancakes ? '' You giggled.
'' Because of everything '' He said simply, pushing off the counter to wrap his arms around your waist from behind.
'' But the pancakes aren't hurting your case. ''
You turned in his arms, resting the spatula on the counter and looking up at him.
'' You planning on making that a serious question someday ? ''

Good morning, Decelis! Guess who’s back?
And no, I’m not talking about myself at the moment, but rather, a princess of a successful empire, and our beloved black sheep of the school. It’s quite ironic, isn’t it? In a place where money is power, she has none despite the billions she’s meant to inherit. Poor girl, wouldn’t you say?
But rumours have it that our princess is back from her prolonged summer break abroad, and she’s different than we remember.
It seems that the good girl image has been thrown to the wolves, and the princess is back with a bite of her own.
I’m most definitely looking forward to what this year brings us.
hiii this is my first post as an author. i've been listening to nettles ever since it released and i instantly thought of this teehee.
warnings: character death, grief, toxic relationship elements?, mentions of self-destruction, implied suicidal thoughts, medical trauma, mild blood/injuries
--
it was nettle season. the kind that dripped golden light through lace curtains, and left your skin sun-warmed and aching.
jake smelled like honey and rust. like old summers and first loves. like something fleeting.
you were seventeen and full of wanting. and he was there, walking barefoot through the overgrown grass, humming a song you didn’t know the name of. the back of his hand brushed yours and that was enough to make your knees weak.
--
“do you believe in god?” he asked, one afternoon.
you shrugged. “i believe in you.”
he had bruises he never spoke about. calloused palms and quiet eyes. a laugh that cracked down the middle like a broken cassette tape.
“when i go,” he said once, “lay me down where the trees bend low.”
you didn’t cry. not then. not until weeks later when you found his flannel in the laundry and it still smelled like cedar wood and sleep.
--
“will you stay?”
you did. you stayed through the fevers. the vomiting. the nightmares that woke him up screaming.
you kissed his eyelids. you fed him soup. you read to him when his voice disappeared. you did everything love required.
and it still wasn’t enough.
--
the morning jake died, there were gardenias on the tile. white and soft. like forgiveness. like forgetting.
“you smell like nettles,” he whispered before he slipped. “you smell like home.”
“to love me is to suffer me.” he said that. not in a cruel way. in a way that tasted like surrender.
and you? you suffered. you burned. you swallowed the grief whole and it still made a home inside you.
you didn’t move on. that’s not what it was. you just… woke up one day and made tea. you learned to laugh again, even if it cracked in the middle.
you still visit him. you leave letters under the tree.
“the hurt was real,” you wrote once. “so the love was real too.”
he never left. not really.
he’s in the warmth on your skin. in the silence after the song ends. in the scent of gardenias drifting in on a breeze that sounds like him saying your name.
PAIRING: (ex)online bestfriend!Jake x (ex)online bestfriend!fem!reader
SUMMARY: Jake was just walking around during a live, through a village, talking to engenes when he sees someone..
GENRE: mostly angst and sad
WC: 720
A/N: took me long..backstory (of jake and y/n being friends) is based on real experience! made it up bc i was sad ab my own online bestfriend leaving me :') i am coping
It had been a few days, Jake decided to go Lebanon to spend some time there for fun. and hopefully find you
He couldn't stop thinking about it as he walked through a quiet village, talking to engenes on his live about you "You know, my online bestfriend was originally from a village, and it looked so beautiful, she'd send me pictures of her place time to time" he'd cheerfully talk about you to his fans, although the bittersweet memories played in his head.
over and over again.
[you know, you're always making everyone smile. please remember that everyone also means you]
those were the best words you ever said to Jake. you always encouraged him. you both would talk for hours, no problem. he got so used to you, so attached to you, even if you were a person he'd text after school, while eating, watching something, everything.
Jake saw you as his bestfriend. and soon, more than that.
but he never told you.
[i swear, you have to visit around here! id take you around the whole country, just come for a day]
it's what you talked about half the time. Jake even promised you that one day, he would. and so he worked for it. for his bestfriend.
but just two years of friendship, and you had suddenly disappeared. you stopped talking, till one day Jake realized you blocked him. why? he didn't know, and he tried approaching you on the other socials you two followed each each other on. he found one you used once a week, so he tried.
[hey, are you okay?]
[sorry, but don't talk to me please.]
that was the last message he got from you before..
{you cannot message this account as this user has blocked you}
blocked. his last means of talking to you. gone. he couldn't believe it. did you hate him? did you get caught talking to him? he knew your family was strict, considering your religious background.. but why only him?
he checked your followers, following and all. there was only a difference of one account in every one. him. you had only blocked him. you only cut ties with him. no-one else. no other online friend. only him. but why?
Jake spent days overthinking about it, what if this was a prank? what if she's hiding something? will she be back?
it had been 5 years, till today, but no. you were gone. out of his life. and that broke him. completely. he didn't let it change who he was, but the small dwelling of you in his heart stung him time to time.
and today he walking along the very path, in the very country, the very place he promised you about, years ago..
but he looked up, and smiled, to stay happy. for his fans, for you.
as he continued his little walk, he saw..a person?a girl?.. strange. Jake walked through this path a few time to make sure nobody (or a crazy fan) would interrupt his live. what's this girl doing here?
that's when he panicked. the girl was walking towards him. shit, he thought. what if it was some crazy ass?
but he was met with surprise, as she got closer, those hazel eyes..the long, straight hair..could it be?....could it really be..her?
he was interrupted from his thoughts when he heard her speak "oh my god, Jake? from Enhypen? i love your music so much!"
"haha thank you, what's your favourite song and album?" he was glad she wasn't an obsessed fan.
"definitely shout out. you did great work on that!.. well, i need to go, have a great day!" and she walked off. quite respectful of her to know the boundaries. Jake could see the comments flood with how pretty you are, but he had one thing in mind. something he wouldn't want to let engenes know yet because he wasn't sure, but,
even your voice..it was..familiar??
he looked back, and you were walking. he was torn between ending his live and talking to you to figure if it was really you, or walking ahead, knowing that maybe the universe had decided that not even both your friendship was meant to be.
but what if, just what if, for once, he broke the rules of fate, of destiny? just what if....
well, i am an asshole. but im quite proud of this one! should i continue for a part 2? in a dilemma rn to make it angsty or fluff (or maybe 2 separate endings?)
please like, follow, share! and dont forget to give feedback, it helps alot!! <3
a/n! - ( happy jake day ! … I wish guys like him actually existed )
warnings! - { swearing, food, making out, getting caught, maybe a bit spicy??? }

You have been planning Jake's birthday party for months. Sneaking text messages with the members, bribing Sunoo with mint chocolate chip ice cream to keep him quiet, and begging Jungwon not to accidentally spoil it with his habit of smiling whenever he knows something. You wanted everything to work out perfectly.
'' What the hell do you want me to do with all these fairy lights ? '' Sunghoon asked.
'' Put them on the balcony walls ''
'' The balcony walls ? Wouldn't it look so much better if we put them in the living room ? ''
'' Decorate the balcony first. ''
Sunghoon sighed deepy, slightly annoyed of being bossed around.
'' She's a girl with a vision '' Sunoo chimed in from another room as he decorated the dorm with white balloons.
You were in the kitchen with Jay, trying your very best to bake a birthday cake for your boyfriend.
And believe me when i tell you the kitchen was a battlefield.
Flour dusted the countertop, sugar granules sparkled under the lights like glitter, and the bowl of melted chocolate somehow ended up splattered across the stove despite nobody having touched the stove yet.
Jay sighed dramatically looking at the mess you've made.
'' I literally left you alone for five minutes, Y/N. FIVE. ''
You couldn't help but roll your eyes while measuring flour.
'' The kitchen was already a mess before you left so don't act like i'm the only one who's making a mess over here. ''
Jay froze
'' Okay, fair. Don't tell Jake please ''
You grinned.
'' Wasn't planning on it ''
Jay moved beside you, tying his apron tighter and pushing his sleeves up. His ''serious chef mode'' was now fully activated. You slightly giggled at the sight of him acting all serious all of a sudden.
'' Alright. For Jake, we need perfection '' He said, grabbing a whisk like it was a sacred relic.
'' Chocolate cake. Rich. Moist. Dense ... not dry like Heeseung's humor ''
You laughed.
'' Oh so we're roasting the boys now ? ''
He ignored you.
'' Measure exactly. No eyeballing. This is baking, not Sunoo playing with a blender''
'' Hey, I heard that ! '' Sunoo shouted from around the corner, making you both laugh.
You poured cocoa powder into the bowl while Jay kept a critical eye on your work. He passed you ingredients with unusual gentle precision. And sometimes, accidentally on purpose he brushed your hand just to make you laugh.
'' So.. '' Jay said, smirking slightly. '' You know Jake's going to love this ''
You shrugged, but your cheeks warmed.
'' It's his favorite ''
'' It's not just the cake, It's because you're making it. That dude really loves you. He literally glows every time you walk into a room''
Before you could even respond, he flicked a bit of flour onto your cheek.
'' For luck '' He said, smiling innocently.
You shot him a look before breaking into a fit of giggles, unable to stay serious.
You both dissolved into laughter before finally pouring the batter into the cake pan. You smoothed the top with a spatula, Jay's critical eyes watching you closely.
'' This part is important. Jake likes when the edges rise evenly ''
'' You pay attention to stuff like that ? '' You asked.
Jay shrugged casually.
'' He's my best friend '' He said before finally sliding the cake into the oven. He clapped his hands together, and turned to you with his proudest grin.
'' There. In 32 minutes and 15 seconds our masterpiece is all done ''
'' Not yet. I need to decorate it with marshmallows. ''
Jay sighed.
'' You know him so well... ''
'' Let's clean up ! We only have a few hours left '' You said, forcing a sponge into Jay's hand.
As some more time went by the whole place started to match your expectations. The kitchen wasn't a complete mess anymore, Sunghoon did an amazing job with the fairy lights and Sunoo put the finishing touches on everything. And just when you put the last marshmallow on the cake, you got a notification from Heeseung.
'' Guys !!! They're coming ! ''
Sunoo gasped dramatically.
'' O- Okay what do we do ?! ''
'' Let's just all hide behind the couch '' Sunghoon suggested.
Before anyone could answer , you could already hear the rustling of Jake's keys. Sunghoon quickly turned off the lights in panic , and eventually made everyone hurriedly hide behind the couch.
Luckily Jake seemed to be struggling with his keys, which means you had a few more seconds to make sure everyone was well hidden.
'' Thank you guys for helping me by the way... '' You whispered quietly, but loud enough for them to hear.
And approximately 3 seconds later, the door finally opened.
By the time Jake and the boys walked through the dorm door, the lights flipped on all at once and everyone jumped out from behind the furniture.
'' HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JAKE ! ''
He froze, blinking, his eyes widening when he saw the decorations: the white balloons, the fairy lights Sunghoon spent hours untangling, and most importantly the cake.
Then he saw you holding the cake, smiling nervously.
His whole face lit up.
'' Do you see what I mean ? Literally glowing... '' Jay whispered from behind you.
'' Y/N ... did you plan all of this ? '' Jake said, looking around the room in awe.
You shrugged, trying not to look too proud.
'' I had some help ''
'' You guys did such a good job a keeping this a secret ... I had no Idea ! '' He admitted.
Jake crossed the room to you in three long strides and wrapped you in a tight hug, his voice warm against your hair.
'' This is the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. Thank you ''
The party lasted hours. Loud music, cake smearing, Heeseung and Ni-ki arguing about who had the best playlist and Jungwon accidentally knocking over a balloon arch which Sunoo got pretty mad about. Through it all, Jake kept glancing at you, eyes bright, as if he couldn't believe you'd done all this for him.
Near midnight, when everyone was busy arguing over whether to watch a movie or play games, Jake leaned down, voice low.
'' Do you wanna sneak out for a bit ? Just us ? ''
You nodded.
He grabbed your hand and quietly led you upstairs towards the balcony, slipping out the side door into the cool night air.
Outside, the world felt more peaceful - quieter. The distant sound of the party muffled behind the walls. The dorm's balcony was dimly lit, fairy lights swaying across the roof, casting a warm glow across Jake's face. Sunghoon really did an amazing job with decorating the balcony.
He turned to you, still holding your hand in his.
'' Thank you for tonight. Really. I don't think I've ever felt so...''
He searched for the word, eyes drifiting over your face.
''...seen. ''
You stepped closer.
'' You deserve all of it. ''
'' Did you make the cake all by yourself ? ''
'' Nope. Jay helped me ... you should've seen the kitchen ''
Jake giggled.
'' I can only imagine '' He said, gently pulling you into his arms.
Jake let out a breath, the kind people release when they've been holding back for too long. His hand came up slowly, brushing your cheek with his thumb. His touch was warm, gentle, like he was memorizing the shape of your face.
And before you knew it, he leaned in - not all at once, but carefully, like he wanted to savor every second before your lips met. When he finally kissed you, it was soft, warm, and sweet, the kind of kiss that melts into you. His other hand slid around your waist, pulling you even closer. You could feel him smile against your mouth when you kissed him back.
The kiss deepened naturally, still tender but more sure. His fingers threaded into your hair, the small pull sending a shiver down your spine. You wrapped your arms around his neck, feeling the steady rise and fall of his breathing as he pressed you gently against him.
He murmured your name against your lips, his breath warm.
'' I'm really grateful for you ''
He rested his forehead on yours.
'' Let's stay out here a little longer '' He said.
'' Just us. Just like this ''
And that's when he kissed you again - slow, heated, and absolutely impossible to resist. You could feel his heartbeat through his hoodie, fast, matching yours. He kissed you like he had forgotten the world existed beyond the two of you.
You were just about to pull him even closer when suddenly...
The door creaked open.
Jake froze, and so did you.
Soft footsteps.
Voices.
Then :
'' ... Jake ? Y/N ? ''
You both sprang apart so fast you nearly tripped over each other. Jake's hand shot out to steady you, but he ended up grabbing your arm a little too tightly.
It was Sunghoon, standing by the balcony door with a cup of soda in his hand, blinking like he'd walked into the wrong universe.
His eyes narrowed immediately.
'' ... Why the hell are you two out here ? I mean it's romantic as fuck with the fairy lights and everything but you guys are being weird ''
Jake cleared his throat, running a hand through his hair - the same hair you had just been tugging on.
'' U- uh we were ... just getting some air. ''
Sunghoon raised a brow, then slowly looked from Jake's flushed face to your swollen lips, to the suspicious amount of distance you were trying very hard to put between you two.
'' Right. ''
He took a sip of his drink.
'' Air. ''
Jake shot you a desperate sideways glance like please help me, but you were too busy trying not to laugh.
Sunghoon stepped closer, squinting.
'' Why do you look guilty ? ''
Jake coughed.
'' I literally don't ''
'' Yes you do '' Sunghoon said flatly.
'' You both do. Did you commit a crime ? Did you break something ? Did you- ''
He cut himself off abruptly.
His eyes widened, then he smirked - a slow knowing smirk that said he absolutely knew exactly what you were doing.
'' Ohhh... '' he murmured. '' I get it now ''
Jake rolled his eyes.
'' You get what ? ''
Suddenly Sunghoon looked at you with a knowing smile.
'' Is that why you wanted me to decorate the balcony so badly ? ''
'' Sunghoon ! ''
He giggled, already backing up toward the door.
'' Okay. Just... don't stay out too long. It's getting cold. Wouldn't want you two to ... catch anything ''
He winked. He actually winked.
Jake groaned into his hands the second the door shut behind him.
'' That childish motherfucker. He's never letting this go ''
You laughed softly, the tension easing but the spark between you still very much alive.
Inside the dorm, you could hear Sunghoon yell '' DON'T GO OUT ONTO THE BALCONY FOR A WHILE! ''
And the moment Sunghoon's voice faded inside, Jake gently grabbed your hand.
'' Come with me '' He whispered - the kind of whisper that wasn't really a request. His hand never left yours, tugging you gently down the hall until he pushed open his bedroom door.
'' Okay '' He exhaled, closing it behind you. '' Much better ''
He leaned against the door for a second, running a hand through his hair, still flustered from being caught.
'' You know... '' He said softly, stepping toward you.
'' I didn't want to stop earlier ''
Your heart fluttered.
'' Me neither ''
His hands bracketed your waist as he leaned in, voice low, almost strained.
'' He almost ruined everything ''
You smiled breathlessly
'' Did he ? ''
Jake's eyes darkened.
'' No. Not even close. ''
And then he kissed you again - not soft like earlier, but deep and full of tension. His hands slid up your sides, slow but sure, like he needed to feel every inch he could get away with. You tangled your fingers in his hair, pulling him closer, and he let out the quietest sound - half sigh, half groan against your mouth.
'' Y/N... '' He murmured, kissing your jaw, then your neck, each touch warmer than the last. '' You have no idea what you do to me ''
Your heart kicked hard in your chest.
'' I think I do. ''
Jake's breath caught, his forehead resting lightly against yours.
'' Yeah ? '' He murmured, a small smile tugging at his lips.
You nodded, brushing your thumb over his cheek.
'' Good, '' He whispered, pulling you a little closer. '' ...because i don't ever want to hide it ''
On a random saturday night you and your friends spontaneously decided to go out. It was a few weeks after your birthday, and a night out sounded like an amazing idea to you.
Your birthday was a disaster. Well, at least it was a disaster to you. Everyone else was having a pretty good time. You on the other hand had been feeling depressed for the last few months. So while everyone else was laughing, you tried holding back your tears the whole time.
No one knew you were going through a breakup until a few days ago. But after everyone knew about it, you regretted not telling them earlier. They made you feel so much better in such a short period of time. You even started talking to some new guys. You weren't planning on starting a serious relationship with them, but they helped you get your mind off things. They helped you cope with the pain. Even though you knew it was only temporary.
Surprisingly you ended up getting really close with one of them. His name was Theo. You felt really comfortable around him, since you already knew he wasn't looking for anything serious either. So you had more of a ''friends with benefits'' kind of thing going on with him. He quickly became a part of your friend group, and also joined you guys on your night out at a music bar.
It was a pretty popular music bar, since they had a band line up every friday and saturday. They weren't the most popular bands, but regardless they never failed to amaze you.
So you ordered some drinks, sat down on one of the huge couches, talked about some of your favorite memories and without even noticing, you found yourself snuggling up to Theo. You placed your head on his shoulder, while listening to your friend's stories with a smile tugging on your lips.
'' Y/N ! Remember when we were in milan and we suddenly had the idea to play hide and seek in the hotel ? I remember us getting in so much trouble because Jake accidentally broke a really expensive vase''
'' Yeah I remember that...'' You said, faking a smile.
Theo turned his head to look at you with a smirk on his lips.
'' ... Who's Jake ? ''
Your friend instantly regretted mentioning Jake. Everyone looked at you with pity in their eyes and they could tell how hard you tried not to cry.
'' He's no one '' You said, your eyes suddenly turning cold at the thought of him.
'' Were you guys close ?''
'' Theo stop. She obviously doesn't want to talk about him'' One of your friends chimed in.
'' I'm gonna use the restroom. I'll be right back '' You got up, before quickly disappearing in the small crowd of people.
You locked yourself up in one of the restroom stalls, and took a deep breath in. You gently wiped away the tear rolling down your cheek, trying not to ruin your makeup. Why did everything have to be so complicated ? Why couldn't you just forget about your relationship with Jake and finally move on ? Why did your friend even have to bring him up ?
Your thoughts were interrupted by the sound of someone tuning their bass guitar on stage. You got out of the restroom stall, and stared at yourself in the mirror for a few minutes. Your heart was about to jump out of your chest. You knew there were millions of bass players out there. But you immediately recognized the person on stage by the way he was playing.
You recognized him because you used to watch him play every single day.
''This can't be real'' You whispered to yourself, waiting for the sound of the bass to finally stop.
And when it did, you immediately left the restroom.
You didn't want to see him. You weren't ready to. Just the thought of having to look him in the eye after your relationship ended in a screaming fight made you want to throw up. You wanted to get back to your friends as quick as possible.
But you weren't quick enough. Before you could walk any further, you felt someone's hand grabbing your wrist. You turned around in shock, your eyes immediately meeting his.
'' Can i talk to you ? '' Jake asked, his eyes burning holes into your skin.
'' No '' You coldly answered, freeing yourself from his hold before quickly running back to your friends.
Jake wasn't having it. He ran after you, not accepting the fact you didn't want to talk to him. But when he saw you sit down next to Theo, his heart dropped. He watched you cuddle up to him, before watching him whisper something into your ear.
'' I'm sorry for earlier. You okay ? '' Theo whispered. You nodded your head with another forced smile on your face, before intentionally kissing Theo's cheek.
You knew Jake was watching. You wanted to piss him off.
And it worked.
Jake was fuming. No words could ever describe how much he hated seeing you with someone else. But he knew he had to deal with it. It was his fault you weren't with him anymore.
He watched you with a clenched jaw, fighting back tears. But before any tears could fall, he heard one of his band members call his name from the back. Their show was about to start, and he had no idea how he was supposed to focus knowing you were watching him.
Meanwhile Theo looked at you with a surprised look on his face. He didn't expect you to kiss his cheek out of the blue. Especially not in front of your friends. But he decided to just shrug it off and not make a big deal out of it.
You couldn't help but watch Jake and his band members get on stage. You could feel your friend's intense stares, as they watched you closely. They didn't quite understand why you didn't look surprised when your ex boyfriend appeared on stage. Your eyes looked empty. And even when the lights went out, and the band finally started playing, you had no reaction. Your friends kept whispering into each others ears talking about how Jake only had eyes for you the entire time he was on stage.
He even messed up a few songs. He was clearly unfocused.
'' Before we play our last song, I'd like to ask our bassist if he wants to help me sing this one'' Heeseung, the vocalist spoke up, making everyone impatiently wait for Jake's answer.
You knew how nervous Jake was about singing in front of people.
You were an exception.
He used to sing a lot when you were around, which made you really happy because you loved hearing him sing. In your opinion he had the most comforting voice a person could ever have. Even if he was just talking.
'' Uhh ... sure '' Jake eventually answered, making the crowd cheer in excitement.
After Jake sat down next to Heeseung, you could hear him take a deep breath through the microphone. And as soon as he started to sing, the whole room went quiet.
Your friends were right. His eyes were on you the entire time. He didn't look away from you for even one second.
'' I still press your letters to my lips
and cherish them in parts of me that savor every kiss
I couldn't face a life without your light
But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight ''
He sang, looking directly into your eyes.
You couldn't stop the tears falling from your eyes. And Theo only needed a few more seconds to understand what was going on.
You still loved Jake. Even after all the ugly words he had said to you. You didn't want to admit it, but it was true.
You chewed on your bottom lip, listening to your ex boyfriend pour his heart out on stage. And when you finally had the courage to hold eye contact with him, you noticed a few tears leaving his eyes as well.
When the song ended, you felt everyone's eyes on you. You quickly wiped away your tears, shifting in your seat uncomfortably.
'' Are you okay ? '' One of your friends silently mouthed, looking at you with pity in her eyes.
'' I'm fine '' You answered, nodding your head lightly.
The crowd was cheering, asking for another song when the band left the stage.
But to everyone's surprise they didn't come back.
They didn't come back because Jake immediately broke down after leaving the stage.
'' Im such a fucking idiot '' He cried, his hands covering his face.
Heeseung quickly sat down next to him, embracing him in a hug.
'' Stop saying that ''
'' No. You don't understand. I fucked up ''
'' Look, I don't know what exactly happened between you two, but I'm sure she still loves you. I could see it in her eyes. And if she really does loves you, she's gonna forgive you for whatever you've done'' Heeseung said, trying to comfort Jake.
'' I don't even want her to fucking forgive me. What if I hurt her again? She deserved so much better, Heeseung ''
'' You love her. You're not gonna hurt her again. ''
It started getting really late, and people started leaving. Even some of your friends started saying their goodbyes and eventually went back home.
'' So... are we gonna stop seeing each other ? '' Theo spoke up, leaving you surprised.
'' What ? ''
Theo chuckled.
'' By the way you looked at him I can tell you're in love. ''
Your words got stuck in your throat when you felt your eyes tear up once again.
'' You don't have to say anything. I understand. I just want you to know I wish you all the best and I want you to be happy. You deserve it. '' Theo said, pulling you into a hug. He smiled at you softly before walking out of the bar, leaving you completely alone.
Now that you were on your own, you decided to order one last drink before leaving. You enjoyed the calming atmosphere of the bar as you listened to the quiet music in the backround. You couldn't help but wonder how Jake was feeling. If you were being completely honest, you wished you could talk to him. You wished you would bump into him again before leaving. But there was no sign of him. He was probably gone, you thought.
But when you finished your drink and eventually got ready to leave, you were stopped by someone's voice calling your name. When you turned around, you saw Jake running towards you. His eyes looked all puffy, and his lips were swollen. You could tell he cried a lot. He stopped right in front of you, too scared to look you in the eye at first. He even hesitated to talk for a second. He didn't want to say anything he might regret later. He couldn't mess this up again.
'' You know I didn't mean any of the things i said to you, right ? ''
You looked down, pressing your lips together to stop yourself from crying again.
'' No. The moment you started raising your voice at me, I suddenly didn't recognize you anymore. I was scared of you. '' You explained.
Jake didn't have the strength to hold back his tears anymore. Instead, he broke down for a second time that night. Hearing you say you were scared of him made his heart drop.
As your boyfriend, he was supposed to make you feel safe. He was supposed to make you happy.
He choked on his tears, his hands covering his face again. You gently wiped your tears, before hesitantly pulling Jake into a hug. He immediately hugged you back, sobbing into your neck.
'' I'm so sorry '' He apologized between his sobs.
You closed your eyes, taking in his comforting scent before gently caressing his back.
You didn't say anything for a while. You only listened to him apologize over and over again without giving him an answer. And if you were being honest, you didn't even really want to answer. You only wanted to forget about everything that happened and hold him in your arms like this forever. He let out a shaky breath against your neck before lifting his head to look at you. You carefully wiped away his tears, before quickly pecking his trembling lips.
'' I'm sorry '' He said, resting his forehead against yours.
'' I know ''
'' I promise I'm gonna try to be a better person ''
You slowly cupped his cheeks, pulling him into a gentle kiss. Jake tried pulling you even closer, which was nearly impossible. He missed the feeling of your lips against his more than anything else, which lead him to take his sweet time kissing you. His hands found your waist as he kissed you deeply, not giving a shit about what other people might think seeing you like this. He only cared about showing you how much he loved you and somehow getting you back.
'' Can you give me another chance ? '' He whispered against your lips.
'' I can '' You answered, feeling another tear run down your cheek.
Unexpectedly, you suddenly heard Jake's band members cheer from behind you.
'' Thank fucking god !!! '' You heard them say, making you giggle.
'' Did y'all watch us the whole time ? '' Jake shouted, making his band members burst out laughing.
'' Looks like we did '' Heeseung answered, wiggling his eyebrows teasingly.
Jake groaned in annoyance, making you laugh quietly
'' So you think this is funny, huh ? '' He asked, looking at you with a cheeky smile on his lips.
'' I do ''
Jake smiled, gently kissing the tip of your nose before taking your hand.
'' Should we go home ? ''
'' Home as in … back to our home ? ''
'' Yes '' Jake whispered happily.
'' Sure '' You said, your lips curling into a soft smile.
After Jake put his bass guitar into the back of his car, you finally made your way back home. Your hands were intertwined as he was driving, and he didn't miss the chance to place a kiss on the back of your hand every now and then.
Even when you finally arrived at your shared apartment, you didn't let go of each other's hand. Jake quietly opened the door, and lead you inside before closing the door behind him. You looked at the mess around you, remembering the fight between You and Jake. You sighed deeply when you felt Jake hugging you from behind.
'' Let's go to sleep and clean up tomorrow, mh ? '' He whispered before placing a gentle kiss on your shoulder.
'' Let's never fight again '' He added.
You turned around in his hold, smiling at him.
'' What ? ''
'' I love you. '' You said, wrapping your arms around his neck.
'' I love you too. I love you so much '' He said, kissing you before leading you to your shared bedroom.
You got ready for bed together, stealing a few more kisses from each other before finally getting into bed. Jake pulled you into his arms, feeling happier than ever. You stared at him quietly, before pulling him into another deep kiss. You just couldn't get enough of him that day. You were so happy to be back in his arms. You were finally at peace. Jake gently caressed your skin under your oversized shirt while pouring all of his love into the kiss. And when you both got tired, you held each other as close as possible.
Jake was the first one to fall asleep.
You gently traced his facial futures with your fingers, quietly watching him sleep.
'' I love you '' Jake mumbled in his sleep.
You giggled lightly before kissing his lips one last time.

Music was blasting from the speakers, as you tried fighting yourself through a crowd of dancing people. You and your boyfriend Jake were forced to go on a beach party thrown by some frat boys, who happened to be some of Jake's best friends. It's been a while since you got there. People started getting very drunk, some boys tried seducing you with their flirting skills, you were slowly starting to feel uncomfortable and you had no idea where your boyfriend was. You tried calling him several times but he didn't answer his phone. Your eyes were scanning the whole room looking for Jake until you felt someone's hand gently touching your shoulder.
''Hi beautiful...'' You heard a familiar voice whisper into your ear.
A wave of relief rushed through your body as soon as you heard your boyfriend's voice.
'' I've been trying to find you for like an hour, Jakey where the hell have you been ?''
''I was with my friends ... we played a few rounds of beerpong'' He answered hugging you from behind, leaving a few soft kisses on your temple.
You giggled at his clingy behaviour.
''Are you drunk ?'' You curiously asked before quickly pecking his puffy lips.
''Well ... I watched all those guys hit on my girlfriend so now i gotta show them who you belong to. But i may be a little drunk as well'' He admitted, giggling into your ear.
You knew exactly he was drunk. You could tell by the way he clung onto you. He always turned into a clingy mess whenever he had alcohol.
''Do you wanna leave ? The music is getting kinda bad and i'd rather spend some alone time with my girl''
''I thought you'd never ask'' You smiled with all teeth before taking Jake's hand, guiding him out of the huge beach house.
Jake let out a satisfied sigh as soon as the fresh air hit his face. Before you could take another step forward your boyfriend picked you up bridal style, and quickly took off your high heels. You gasped loudly, making Jake chuckle. He immediately put you back down after he was done, and gently intertwined your hands. You smiled looking at Jake, feeling the sand under your feet.
'' You look beautiful today by the way ... did I tell you that already ? ''
You laughed quietly.
'' Yeah you did ... like a hundred times. But thank you, Jake. You look quite handsome as well '' You said, feeling your cheeks heat up.
You were wearing a flowy white dress, while Jake was wearing a black leather jacket, a black shirt and some baggy ripped jeans. You walked hand in hand, listening to the ocean waves hitting the shore. You were so caught up in the moment, you didn't even realize you were walking into the wrong direction the whole time. You immediately stopped in your tracks as soon as you realized, looking at Jake with a confused look on your face.
'' We've been walking into the wrong direction the whole time and none of us noticed ... ''
Jake looked at you with a suspicious smile on his lips...
'' No, angel this is the right direction. Don't worry ''
'' What do you mean this is the right direction ? Our apartment is literally on the other side, Jake '' You said, letting go of his hand.
Jake giggled quietly, leaving you even more confused than before.
'' Well we're not going home tonight '' He explained.
'' Jake wha- ''
'' It's a surprise. ''
Jake knew you weren't the biggest fan of surprises. But by the way he was smirking, you could tell this one was gonna be amazing . He looked excited, which made you feel nervous but somehow optimistic at the same time. Whenever Jake surprised you, he had this one specific smile on his face. It was adorable how he always tried to contain his smile but miserably failed whenever he looked at your impatient state.
Jake carefully took your hand into his again, and guided you towards a huge house, located directly by the ocean.
You've never seen anything like this. It was beautiful. The house was surrounded by palm trees, the stairway was decorated with lights, and you spotted a huge balcony which was also decorated with a bunch of fairy lights. The windows of the house were huge, which gave you the opportunity to take a glimpse of the inside of the building. And the more you looked at it, the more your jaw dropped.
'' What are we doing here ? '' You asked nervously , not believing your eyes.
Jake smiled softly, hugging you from behind as he rested his head on your shoulder.
'' I talked to Jay earlier ... he owns this house. And since he'll be out of town for the next few days he asked me if we wanna stay here until he's back. And of course I said yes ...'' Jake explained as he reached into his pocket, pulling out the keys Jay gave him earlier.
'' Would you like that, Y/N ? ''
You quickly turned around in Jake's hold, tears threatening to fall from your eyes. Before even saying anything, you pulled Jake into a gentle kiss. You felt him smile into the kiss, as he caressed your cheeks softly. You slowly pulled away, looking directly into his sparkly eyes.
'' Oh I would love that '' You answered, making him smile happily.
'' I knew you would '' He said, before leaving a quick kiss on your forehead.
'' But how did you kn-''
'' When we first started talking you always told me about how much you love the ocean ... So I knew this would be perfect for you '' He interrupted your question, leaving you speechless.
You were currently smiling like an idiot. You had no idea you could fall even harder for that man. Before you could pull him into another kiss, he threw you over his shoulder and walked towards the door. He used his free hand to open it, and quickly stepped inside. He let your high heels fall onto the floor, walked over to the huge couch and carefully laid you down.
You were both giggling quietly but as soon as Jake hovered over you, your laughter slowly died down. You only stared at each other for a while, no words being exchanged.
'' God, you make me feel so alive '' You whispered, making Jake's mouth curve into a heartwarming smile. Your fingers were gently tracing his jawline, before you finally pulled him into another kiss. That kiss was a bit more passionate than the one before. It felt much more eager. As if you had to prove how much you love each other. You put your arms around Jake's neck when you felt his tongue tracing your bottom lip. He rested his one hand on your cheek while the other one was gently grabbing your waist. His touch caused you to pull him even closer to your body, until you felt his whole body weight against your chest. He carefully put one leg between your legs without breaking the kiss, causing you to quietly moan into his mouth.
''I love you so goddamn much'' Jake whispered against your lips, making you feel millions of butterflies in your stomach.
'' I love you '' You answered, softly breaking the kiss.
Jake's lips were still gently brushing over yours when you felt him smile again. You took the opportunity to place another chaste kiss on his now slightly swollen lips.
'' Should we go explore the house ? '' Your boyfriend asked, still smiling lightly.
'' We should do that tomorrow. Finding the bedroom might be the best idea right now because i'm starting to get very tired ''
'' Your wish is my command m'lady '' Jake said, making you giggle.
He helped you to get up from the couch, before you both started heading upstairs. It didn't take you long to find the bedroom, since it was one of the biggest rooms of the entire house. The bedroom was connected to the huge balcony you already saw earlier, it had a king sized bed, a walk-in closet, a big bathroom with a jacuzzi in it, and the most beautiful view you could ever even imagine.
'' This is crazy. Jay is officially the luckiest man alive '' You stated, walking around the room with widened eyes.
'' Not true. I'm the luckiest man alive '' Jake corrected you, letting himself fall onto the bed. You giggled before sitting down next to your boyfriend, pulling him into your arms.
'' I'm the luckiest man alive because I have the most beautiful woman by my side '' He said, making you blush. You helped Jake to take off his jacket and his uncomfortable jeans, before carefully pulling the soft blanket over his body. The sound of the ocean waves made Jake feel incredibly sleepy. And since he couldn't sleep without having you in his arms, he quickly pulled you close to his chest.
'' Jake i need to get ready for b-''
'' No. I really need you to stay here with me right now ''
You sighed against your boyfriend's chest, immediately giving in. You were way too tired anyway.
Jake gently lifted your chin to give you another kiss, thanking you in his very own way.
'' I'm gonna marry you one day. I mean it '' He whispered sleepily.
You felt your heart skip a beat.
'' I know you do ''
Jake kissed your forehead one last time, before slowly drifting off to sleep. You softly caressed the bridge of his nose as you watched him with love filled eyes.
'' I love you '' You whispered.
'' I love you even more than i love the ocean, my beautiful boy ''

a/n! this is something i wrote like a month back? i've been writing one-shots for myself for months tbh so i guess i'm releasing some of them into the wild, you could say
Jake has been in your life for as long as you could remember. You two have lived next door for ages and your parents were practically best friends. That meant spending unholy amounts of time with Jake even if you didn’t want to, but Jake was a great person to hang around so you never really complained.
Today was no different. Your two families gathered to celebrate your younger sister’s birthday. It wasn’t anything special nor big as your parents disliked big parties and having to attend to far too many guests, so the party consisted of your family, Jake’s, and your sister’s friends that she invited herself. Your sister wasn’t much younger than you, only three years, which meant that they were old enough to ogle Jake due to his conventionally attractive looks.
You would’ve loved to stay in the main area of the house with the girls just to watch Jake suffer, but the puppy eyes he kept shooting you made you actually feel bad for him. So you two ended up going to your room. You ignored the loud whispers of your sister’s friends as they asked her whether you and Jake were dating.
“Thanks.” Jake let out a relieved breath when you closed the door to your room, and you laughed at him, examining the lost expression on his face.
“You really can grow out of your nerd looks, even if the nerd stays, huh?” you teased the boy, giggling when he looked at you, his eyes wide and distressed by the excessive female attention.
If he’d been with his other friends, he would’ve probably played it cool. But since it was only your two families and those girls, the attention was probably overwhelming. Especially when those girls were fifteen and you two were about to graduate high school.
“Is this your way of complimenting my looks?” Jake retorted, crossing the room to lie down on your bed. He closed his eyes, finally relaxing after being harassed by a group of pre-teens.
“Do you even need it?” you replied, joining Jake on the bed.
You lay down next to him, your arms slightly touching. Glancing at each other, the two of you broke out in a fit of giggles over the silliness of the situation.
Jake turned on the bed to stare at you once you both calmed down, and your brow rose in curiosity, wondering what was on his mind.
“Hey, you have a date to the prom yet?” he asked, to which you shook your head in response.
“No,” you said, pursing your lips, “but I was thinking of asking Sunghoon… I don’t know if he’ll say yes if I ask… actually, do you know if he already has a date?”
Jake’s smile faltered the slightest bit as he shook his head, but you only paid attention to what this meant rather than how Jake felt. “Not as far as I’m aware. Pretty sure only Heeseung and Jay have dates.”
Your eyes widened. “Wait, so you don’t have a date either? Then, um, I can help you get one if you help me with Sunghoon!” you suggested energetically, shooting up from your bed as your mind began whirring with ideas for who you could pair Jake up with.
“Right. Yeah.” Jake sat up on the bed, nodding. You barely noticed the way Jake longingly stared at you as you began pacing in your room, thinking of a plan. The thing was, Jake had been asked by several people to the prom already, but he turned down all of them because he was trying to find the perfect moment to ask you. Except it seemed he just lost the opportunity overall.
“There’s still more than a month left, which means we have a lot of time to find you a proper date. And I mean, look at you, there should be no issues,” you said thoughtfully, turning to Jake to examine him. He was beautiful from head to toe, his black hair styled to the side so his hair wouldn’t fall into his eyes, big brown eyes and a large enchanting smile. You could probably easily get one of your girlfriends to go with him without much convincing if you asked them.
Jake continued to nod, running a hand through his hair. Licking his lips, he struggled to find the right words to tell you that he didn’t want your help with finding a date, since he wanted you to be the date. But no words would come out even as you continued pacing back and forth between your collection of female superhero figures and your fantasy bookshelf.
“How should I approach Sunghoon?” you asked rhetorically, but still looked to Jake for guidance, hoping that he would have some tips to offer regarding one of his best friends. But he only shrugged in response.
“Just talk to him,” he said unhelpfully to you. “He knows you, you know him. I’d say the best approach is to be direct with him.”
You let out a laugh. “Ha, as if.” You shook your head. There wasn’t a bit of confidence in you to actually approach Sunghoon directly and ask him to the prom. No, you needed a plan that would trick him into thinking that he was the one who wanted to go to prom with you.
Jake hummed, ignoring the way his chest constricted at the interest you showed for his best friend. He wanted to be the guy you wanted to ask you to the prom, but you didn’t even seem to consider the possibility. Instead, you were already mentally browsing through the list of girls that you could potentially set up with Jake, and he hated it.
“Could you get Sunghoon to teach me to ice skate? A double date on an ice rink could be awesome,” you said, playing out a scene in your head that was heavily reminiscent of that one Teen Wolf scene in season one where Lydia completely showed off her ice skating skills.
“Teach you? Didn’t you do figure skating for like a year and then quit when we were twelve?” Jake asked with a raised brow.
“See, if I knew that continuing would mean meeting Sunghoon I’d probably keep at it too,” you replied, shrugging. “I did a lot of things when I was twelve to be honest.”
Jake chuckled in agreement, glancing at a part of your wall that — surprisingly — wasn’t covered in posters, and instead showcased several trophies and medals from your many short-lived hobbies when you were in primary and middle school. The awards ranged from sports like basketball, gymnastics, archery and dancing to singing, computer science, maths and that one physics competition Jake talked you into in eighth grade because it was in pairs.
“And you literally dropped everything,” Jake remarked, shaking his head.
“Well, it’s not my fault I caught a disease from you.” You pouted, looking at Jake. “You should’ve never let me discover the absolute thrill of playing League of Legends,” you said sarcastically, and Jake rolled his eyes at you. You had a love-hate relationship with the game, though these days you spent more time playing Valorant. It would be a waste if you didn’t since you had to spend hours watching Twitch streamers to get the early beta key to the game.
“You don’t even play with me anymore,” Jake said sulkily.
“Sucks to suck, doesn’t it?”
Jake stuck out his tongue at you, and you giggled at how childish but cute it was. “Anyway, I doubt Sunghoon’s gonna fall for it if you pretend to not know how to ice skate.”
“Fine, I won’t pretend then.” Shrugging, you plopped down on your bed, invading Jake’s personal space. He didn’t know whether to push you away or bring you closer, and it made his head spin.
“But you still want to go to the ice rink?”
“Yeah.” You grinned, thinking of ways to impress Sunghoon. Unlike Jake, he did not know of your past as a figure skater, which meant that he would not expect you to be able to keep up with him, at least when it comes to basics.
“I hate you,” Jake mumbled.
Why was he even going along with this?
Getting access to the ice rink was perhaps too easy. You knew the owners because of your figure skating days, and despite not actively ice skating anymore, you did like to stop by every now and then, usually with friends that were not Jake. The owners also knew Sunghoon, so when you mentioned his name, that was probably the deciding point for them. They let you stay after the ice rink officially closed, and told you the passcode for the day to get your friends in.
You passed the code over to Jake so he’d be the one opening the doors to the friend you invited along for Jake and Sunghoon.
For now, you were at the empty ring all by yourself. You chose to wear a pair of leggings and a warmer jacket only, staying on the ice in your skates to keep yourself warm, though you could feel the redness in your cheeks and nose, affected by the cold. You were mostly doing laps around the ring, switching between front and back skating, occasionally adding in a spin there and a jump here, your blood rushing through every limb as you stretched them all out while balancing yourself on the ice.
Unbeknownst to you, your friends entered the ice rink area, quietly watching you in awe for different reasons. Jake hadn’t seen you skate in years and this was his first time seeing you on ice again. Your friend just didn’t know how truly good you were when it came to your abilities, as you usually spent your time chasing each other on the ice whenever you came here. Sunghoon didn’t even know you could figure skate.
“Is she just perfect at everything she does?” your friend asked rhetorically, glancing at Jake. None of them could find the strength in them to stop watching you and let you know that they were present.
“Basically,” Jake replied.
“Her form isn’t perfect,” Sunghoon remarked, breaking the spell with his insight. “She’s good and has talent, but she lacks a lot of proper training.” Neither Jake nor your friend could fight Sunghoon on that. He was the professional figure skater out of the four of you, after all.
“You can help her then,” said your friend, bringing the support you invited her along for.
Sunghoon ignored your friend, walking over to the tribunes to put his skates on instead. Jake followed after him while your friend scoffed and crossed her arms across her chest. Out of the boys, she’d always liked Jake the most, so it wasn’t hard to convince her to come along.
“Y/N, hey!” she called to get your attention. You abruptly halted in the middle of the ice rink, your eyes going towards your friend before spotting Jake and Sunghoon as well, though neither were paying attention to you as of now. “How long have you been here?”
You skated across the ring to reach your friend. “Not long,” you said. “What’s the time now?”
“Like, ten-thirty?” she replied with a shrug.
“Okay, then maybe I’ve been here for about half an hour.”
Your friend shook her head, staring at you in disbelief. “You should’ve told us to drag our asses here earlier!” she scolded you. “Why did you never tell me you can figure skate?”
“I haven’t told anybody, to be honest,” you replied. “Only a very select number of people know. Like my family and Jake and his family. Some people from middle school… but nobody talks about it anyway. It wasn’t anything to talk about much since I didn’t go competitive.”
Your friend smacked her lips together in disapproval. “All I’m hearing is you’re wasting away your talents… and for what? So you can play a shooting game?” She deadpanned, judging you with narrowed eyes. You offered a nonchalant smile and shrugged.
“Valorant is life,” you said. “I’m also trying to get out of plat in League. It’s ass.”
“Girl.” Your friend rolled her eyes. “No wonder you get along with Jake’s friends so well…”
“Is that supposed to be an insult, ‘cause it sure sounds like one.” You stared at your friend with one raised brow, but she made no expression that would give away the true meaning behind her words. It was whatever you wanted it to be, or whatever you interpreted it as.
“At least they’re pretty,” she said. “Besides, it’s only been like ten minutes and Sunghoon’s already a dick.”
“Really? How so?”
“He basically said you suck, and then ignored me,” said your friend, and you could sense she was exaggerating from the way she pretended to be hurt, and the pout on her lips.
“I do suck.” You grinned, glancing over at Jake and Sunghoon who were in a deep conversation about something while tying their skates. “But whatever. I’m bored. Hurry up and get on the ice.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah… jeez.”
Sunghoon approached you on the ice not long after your friend disappeared to change from her shoes, and you smiled brightly at the taller boy, examining his fit. It wasn’t as casual as yours since he wore a black bomber jacket on top of a white T-shirt with black jeans, but it also wasn’t not-not-casual.
“Jake said you used to do figure skating?” Sunghoon tilted his head to the side, stopping right in front of you. He examined you as if he were standing in front of a complete stranger rather than somebody he’d known for years, and you challenged him by staring back at him.
“Yep,” you hummed in response. “It’s been a while, though.”
“I could see that,” Sunghoon remarked, which reminded you of your friend saying that Sunghoon practically said you suck. Well, there it was. Except there was still some sort of awe in his voice as he watched you. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly, pursing his lips. “Sorry, that probably sounded mean.”
You shook your head, patting Sunhoon’s shoulder reassuringly. “It’s fine. I’m not necessarily out of practice but I’m also not in good shape so… your honesty is appreciated.”
“Since when do you figure skate anyway?”
“I was in middle school,” you replied. “Like, around the time I started getting bored of basketball, so I wanted to try something new.”
Sunghoon nodded, assuring you that he was listening.
“After about two months of practice, my trainer wanted me to go competitive, but I never did. Like, I liked it enough but I didn’t really have the motivation, you know? So I lasted for about a year before dropping figure skating… it also didn’t help that I started playing League.” You laughed, realising that you dropped a ton of your hobbies for the worst best game in the world.
Sunghoon cleared his throat, crossing his arms in thought. “That’s weak.” He shook his head in disapprovement. “I played League and continued to figure skate.”
You rolled your eyes at him. “Yeah, and then you’re hardstuck silver…””
Sunghoon scoffed.
“I did gymnastics instead, though,” you explained yourself with a shrug. “That one lasted longer and I even won a few competitions. Dancing after that. But the only thing that stayed is Riot.” You laughed at the sceptical look on Sunghoon’s face.
“You’re such a weirdo.”
“And you’re a loser,” you shot back.
“The medals and trophies in my house say differently,” Sunghoon claimed matter-of-factly, but you dismissed him with a wave of your hand.
“I’ve never seen them, so they don’t exist to me.”
“Oh, so you’re an empiricist all of a sudden?”
“Always been one.” You crossed your arms across your chest, the corner of your mouth raised in a tiny smirk when you saw that Sunghoon was smiling too. You’d never shared a one on one conversation with him before since you were usually surrounded by the rest of the friend group, but it was nice speaking to him like this.
“I’ll show you when you come over one day,” he said, and your brow shot up.
“Wow. I’m so honoured to get the opportunity,” you replied, grinning. “I’ve always wanted to meet Gaeul.”
“As you should… she’s much cuter than Layla.” Sunghoon glanced at Jake, who seemed to be in a conversation with your friend now. Neither of the two had stepped on the ice yet.
You narrowed your eyes at Sunghoon, shaking your head. “That’s debatable. I’m practically Layla’s mum. Jake and I have shared custody.”
“Damn,” Sunghoon laughed, and so did you.
You made a sound that signalled you were cold, clasping your hands together to rub them and create some heat. Sunghoon looked at you but didn’t say anything besides reaching into his pockets to hand you a pair of gloves. You accepted it with a smile and put them on, appreciating the heat they offered despite being too big for your hands.
“Wanna race?” you asked because you truly needed something to make your blood rush again. Your cheeks burned with cold, and you were sure your entire face was flushed.
“Sure. But you can’t beat me,” Sunghoon said confidently.
“We’ll see about that.” You giggled, pushing Sunghoon back with all your strength before starting off your first lap around the rink.
Jake and your friend still sat at the gate, and he shook his head watching you and Sunghoon race. With your head start, you managed to keep a fair distance from Sunghoon, but he was catching up the longer you two skated around. He hated watching you laugh as Sunghoon chased after you, a frown forming on his lips, which your friend noticed easily.
She nudged Jake’s shoulder with hers and gave him a knowing look. “I honestly thought you’d have asked her to the prom by now,” she said.
Shrugging, Jake shook his head. “If I ask her whenever, she’ll just say yes out of pity. And she’s set on going with Sunghoon anyway,” he said, staring at the ground, kicking the tough rubber material with the sharp end of his skates.
“Yeah, but she just likes him,” said your friend. “She loves you. Nobody’s gonna pity you, Jake. Be for real right now. Do you even know why I agreed to come here?”
Jake merely blinked at your friend.
“I was thinking of helping you ask Y/N to prom,” she admitted, grinning. “Which you’re not gonna do if you’re just gonna sit on your ass and watch her flirt with your best friend.”
Jake glanced at you, showing off by skating backwards. You jumped up and spun, making Sunghoon clap while he followed after you. He was the next one to show off by spinning in place. You gathered some speed on the ice and made an abrupt stop right in front of him, showering him with shaved ice.
“YA, Y/N!” Sunghoon shouted after you, and you skated away, giggles echoing through the rink.
“I’m actually not really good at ice skating,” Jake admitted, licking his lips in frustration.
“Don’t you ever go ice skating with Y/N?” your friend asked because she was one of the friends that you occasionally went ice skating with. Jake shook his head.
“I just avoid it ‘cause I’m bad at it.”
“You’re such a pleb.” Your friend rolled her eyes. “C’mon, let’s get on the ice. It’ll be easier for you if you go willingly,” she warned him, a malicious glint in her eye. The hidden threat was well received, and Jake stood up instantly, your friend following after him.
“Look out!” you shouted out at the exact moment Jake entered the rink. You tried to stop, but you still managed to topple Jake over, the two of you falling roughly on the ice while Sunghoon and your friend watched.
She, being the friend that she was, burst out laughing, while you held yourself up above Jake. He lay on the ice on his back, splattered in defeat because the last thing he expected was to fall the moment he stepped on the ice. He stared up at you, cheeks flushed from the cold, hair falling into your eyes, and he wished he could tell you how much he cared about you in that moment, had it not been the most embarrassing situation you found yourself in.
“I’m so so so so so sorry,” you apologised profusely, getting up. Your knees hurt from the fall since you tried to not completely splat on top of Jake. He was lucky to still be breathing properly and not getting his breath kicked out of him from the fall.
“It’s fine,” he said, turning to his front with a groan so he could get up, too. “I’m totally fine,” he repeated as you helped him up, and you laughed at his lame attempt to play it cool. But then he squirmed his eyes, gripping his left hip.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” you asked, moving your hands to his hip, touching it lightly to know if his jacket managed to block some of the impact. Though you doubted it, wanting to just lift the jacket up and see if a bruise would form.
“Yeah, it’s whatever,” he lied.
“I’m really sorry, Jake,” you apologised again, grabbing his hands with your gloved ones. He noticed that you had Sunghoon’s gloves on, obviously, and he wanted to get out of here, but that would mean disappointing you. That was the last thing he wanted.
You hugged him from the side and kissed his temple, and Jake’s whole body heated up from the contact, his pain partially forgotten.
Sunghoon and your friend watched from the sidelines. He leaned over to your friend and whispered: “You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”
“Well, I didn’t want Jake to hurt himself,” she said, but did not deny that she may have timed their entrance at around the same time as Sunghoon and you would be at the gate while doing your laps.
“So I’m not the only one who knows Jake’s head over heels for her.” Sunghoon nodded toward you, and your friend gave Sunghoon a weird look.
“You know?”
“Yep,” Sunghoon said. “I thought I’d help him confess by making him jealous, but he’s hopeless.” The boy shook his head.
“Surely, they’ll figure it out?” Your friend’s questioning tone made Sunghoon chuckle.
“Jake’s an idiot,” he stated, planting his hands on his hips.
“I noticed,” your friend agreed. “Can you actually ask Y/N to prom?”
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Sunghoon scratched the back of his head. “I know Jake, and he’s more likely to give up if I do.”
“You don’t just give up years of affection.” Your friend shook her head, knowingly staring at you and Jake as you continuously tried to make him feel better. “Nah, he needs to get his shit together, and I think this will work in the long run. Just trust me. Besides, we also need to get Y/N to realise that she likes Jake and not you — no offence.”
Sunghoon scoffed. “Why wouldn’t she actually like me?”
“Because you’re a dickass,” your friend replied with a roll of her eyes.
“No I’m not.”
“Yes, you are.” Your friend gave Sunghoon an unimpressed look. “You’re not nicknamed the ice prince just because you’re a figure skater, dude. Everyone just thinks you’re unapproachable and mean as hell.”
“That’s not true,” Sunghoon defended himself.
“Then don’t act like a dick?” Your friend narrowed her eyes.
“Hmph, thanks for the advice,” he said sarcastically.
“Exactly.”
Sunghoon chose to ignore your friend, skating over to you and Jake instead. You giggled at something Jake said, covering your mouth. “I actually forgot you suck at skating,” you said.
Jake glared at you. “I’m not that bad,” he said.
“You’re terrible,” you disagreed with him, noticing Sunghoon.
“She’s not wrong, hyung. You’re crouching too much and putting your weight backward instead of forward. If you’re going to fall, you’re supposed to fall on your front since your back… well, you know now.”
Grunting, Jake looked between you and Sunghoon, shaking his head. “I’m fine,” he said, attempting to skate away from you, but he slipped. Jake managed to balance himself and stay on his feet, but the damage was already done as you and Sunghoon looked at him knowingly.
“Don’t push yourself too much if your hip still hurts,” you remarked.
“He’s trying to look cool,” Sunghoon commented, shaking his head. “Dumbass.”
“It’s cute.” You giggled.
Sunghoon hummed, not entirely agreeing with you. “By the way, Y/N, I’ve been told you still don’t have a date to prom?”
“Very much so.” You nodded, glancing at Sunghoon curiously.
“Wanna go with me?” he asked, accelerating your weeks-long plan to get Sunghoon to ask you. Well, in your head, the scene was supposed to be much more romantic than him casually asking you, but you were satisfied regardless.
“Really?” You tilted your head to the side, genuinely surprised by the turn of events. “I’d love to.” You grinned.
“M’kay, awesome.”
That was suspiciously easy…
Jake officially hated prom. He despised it. Abhorred it. Whatever other synonym there was to describe hate. That was how he felt about the stupid fucking prom that you went to with Sunghoon instead of him. Because now he sat at a table near the refreshments with a frown on his lips, staring at you and Sunghoon while you danced and talked and laughed together.
Jake had barely spoken to Sunghoon since he asked you to prom. Yes, it was out of pettiness, but he also didn’t want to talk about you, which would certainly end up being a topic in their conversation. Like you and Jake, they were also best friends, but it was different. As different as friendships between two boys could be, but also as two people who had met each other in middle school, rather than knowing one another practically since birth.
And he couldn’t talk about you with him either. He feared telling you about his feelings because he didn’t want to face rejection, and he also feared bringing you up with Sunghoon because if Sunghoon said he liked you too, then Jake wasn’t going to fight him over you. Not that you weren’t worth the fight, rather than it being your decision in the end, so the fighting would mainly hurt the friendships in the end.
So he was stuck here. While everyone else was dancing and having fun. Jake was the only one without a date at the prom, and the only thing that felt wrong about it was you not being by his side.
Little did he know that you felt the exact same way. Especially when you found out that Jake ended up not asking anyone to prom. You thought it would work out with your friend at least, but Jake didn’t ask her, and someone else did. And then Jake didn’t seem to even want to ask anyone at all, and when you wanted to confront him about it, he turned dismissive.
You were having fun with Sunghoon. He was great. A bit quiet, but a very good listener — he was similar to Jake in that way. Which, after spending a bit more time with him, you noticed a lot. How both boys shared many similarities that you couldn’t help but compare. Though Jake was undeniably more bubbly, while Sunghoon was a rather brooding type of guy.
So you missed Jake. A lot.
You missed spending all of your time with him. You missed talking to him until it was very late. You missed his laugh. And you absolutely regretted not asking him to prom. Because that was what you should have done. What should have been your first thought. Not Sunghoon, but Jake, your best friend.
These thoughts likely projected on your face because Sunghoon noticed. He eyed you with the softest smile on his lips and a knowing glint in his eye. He caught you glancing in Jake’s direction more than once. It hurt his pride a little, since he was just a guy at the end of the day, but the other part of him was smug because, in a way, his plan was working.
But he also wanted to come up to Jake and scream at him to stop being such a coward. So he was just a bit conflicted because part of him wanted Jake to actually do something on his own — to finally act according to his feelings — while the other part of him wanted to serve it to him on a silver platter.
Why did Jake have to be such a loser (affectionately)?
“Hey, is it okay if I just… go to Jake for a bit?” you asked Sunghoon, staring up at him. He wanted to laugh at the fact you were asking him permission, but he supposed it was the nice thing to do since he was your date.
“Yeah, it’s fine.” Sunghoon nodded, stepping away from you. “I think I’ll step out for a bit. It’s getting too loud in here.” He wasn’t lying. The music and everyone around them were loud. It was overwhelming, and Sunghoon wanted to get away. This was his opportunity.
You smiled, grabbing Sunghoon’s hand to squeeze it in understanding. “Okay. Thank you.” He watched you fight through the crowd to approach Jake for a bit before making his way outside of the gymnasium.
“You look like the biggest loser ever,” you said the moment you were within Jake’s earshot. He looked up at you in surprise. The boy was dozing off on the spot, not paying attention to his surroundings anymore, rather lost in his own thoughts of self-pity.
“Hey, Y/N, why are you—”
“Sunghoon wanted to get out, and I thought you could use some company,” you explained with a grin, grabbing a chair. You sat down next to Jake, nudging his shoulder with yours. “I don’t get it.” You shook your head. “Why didn’t you ask anyone to be your date? It’s not like people would say no to you.”
Jake chuckled. “I didn’t really wanna go with anyone,” Jake answered, shrugging. “I mean, I did, but I didn’t.”
“Wow. How very logical of you.” Playfully rolling your eyes, you nudged him again, which made him look at you with those big puppy eyes of his, a thin smile decorating his lips.
“I wanted to go with you,” he admitted quietly, averting his gaze to the dancing crowd.
“Then why didn’t you ask me?” You looked at him solemnly, lips pursed. If Jake had wanted to go to prom with you this whole time, all he had to do was ask. You would always say yes. You had assumed Jake would want to have his own date, so you never even brought up the idea of going together.
“It didn’t seem like you wanted to go with me,” Jake murmured, staring at the ground.
“How would you know if you didn’t even ask me?” Your brow rose and you shook your head.
“Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, dumbass, ask me for a dance,” you spoke bossily, surprising even yourself. It dawned on you now that perhaps you wanted to go with Jake too.
Jake’s eyes widened. His heart doing somersaults in his chest. But he smirked, attempting to hide his embarrassment. “Dance with me?” he asked, standing up. Outstretching his hand toward you, he waited for you to accept it.
Grinning, you nodded.
As you spent the rest of your prom by Jake’s side, Sunghoon never came back to find you, and you didn’t mind it at all.
