I've been doing some experimenting with color wash to see what triggers Tumblr's current broken "mature" rating system. We've all noticed that it's currently hyper-sensitive to certain palettes. I hope this gets fixed (bc a picture in sepia tone should not, in fact, be the benchmark for "maturity"), but let's not hold our breath here. In the short run, I figured it would be useful to understand the rules of the road.
My last post got flagged (which is both mostly fair, and helpful to experiment with), so I used it as my test subject. Each color-graded image was uploaded to my drafts separately with no words or tags. If others are flagged over the next week, I will update below.
(If you would like to play with this too, be aware that once a post is flagged on your blog as mature simply adding color wash and uploading won't work. To avoid this, I cropped each test slightly in different directions so that the AI didn't simply flag it as same-photo-different-filter.)
12/29/25 Results:
Color Wash That Passed (So Far):
Bright Green
Bright Blue
Cherry Red
Royal Purple
"Neon Style" Green to Purple Diagonal Fade
Color Wash That Still Triggered The AI:
Neon Yellow
Purple to Pink Diagonal Fade
Purple to Blue Diagonal Fade
Black and White (Expected Outcome)
Conclusion: Neon scenes seem to be our winners. Now is the time for multicolored sim renders in greens, blues, and purples. Anything that fades out to mildly brown is an auto-flag. Black and white is a no.
