i'm losing my fucking mind. a damn near perfect file in simcity 3000 was chugging along just fine and suddenly everything broke. tax income dropped by like 90%. i was getting warnings about low land value despite them being at their highest nearly across the entire city. baffled, i made a backup save and then let it continue for a bit and. i literally got fucking fired. i lost. i didn't even know you could lose simcity. and again, everything was still just as meticulously perfect as autism/adhd hyperfocus could make it (very).
the culprit, uncovered after significant investigation?
overflow error.
that's right. my land values were so high they looped back to zero. i got fucking nuclear gandhi'd. i was so good at simcity i literally broke it, i'm laughing so much. i think this means i won simcity, actually
I blatantly stole that idea from @pixuou, when I saw her map for her uberhood, I knew I had to make one for my game as well 😍
It took me forever to figure out how to assemble the hoods in a way that make sense for my storylines, and for the different climates.
And Strangetown is supposed to be further South but very far away so it doesn't appear on the map.
This is the test version of the map, but I do plan on creating a prettier one to add in my game. It would be very cute to have at the City Hall for instance.
Actually my original plan was to create this as a 100 followers gift, but I took so long that it might become a 200 gift instead 🫣 Also, I can't believe this blog already has so many followers 😵 When I started this I expected that only 3 people might read it so I'm really thankful 🥰
Anyways, if you're interested in my reasoning for arranging the map this way, see my ramblings under the cut
Let's start East of the map, I see Belladonna Cove and Downtown (and SSU) as the core city center. The Sims living there will be able to move completely freely between those hoods by walking/using public transportation. I also plan on building an airport in Belladonna Cove in the lower right corner of the map.
Next Pleasantview and Desiderata Valley are part of the suburban area. Since Desiderata has a lot of cheap houses, it is a bit further from the city center. But overall Sims from those hoods can easily commute to the city via bus or car, although it takes a bit longer (and they can't go by foot). At some point I considered placing Desiderata left of Pleasantview, but since I decided to give it a warmer climate, it was bothering me, especially since it was so close to Riverblossom Hills.
Now let's talk about Bluewater Village. It might be because of its French name (Village Rivazur), but this hood gives me French Riviera vibes. I see it as a highly touristic destination, and it is the second economic hub of SimCity after Downtown. I imagine that it's connected to both Downtown and Belladonna Cove via ferryboat. Thus, it's not uncommon to see visitors from both the city and the suburbs around there.
The region around Veronaville, ALT and Riverblossom Hills is considered as the countryside. I originally wanted to directly connect Veronaville and Bluewater Village, because they both give off European vibes, but I had to compromise. I imagine that the train going through Desiderata Valley also continues into Veronaville, so they can still access it that way. And finally Riverblossom Hills is pretty isolated, so its inhabitants mostly keep to themselves.
And finally, the desert with Strangetown and LFT is somewhere very far south of Desiderata Valley. The only way for the Sims to come to the city would be by plane or helicopter.
I think now I want to change my rules for who can spawn where. Because it breaks my immersion to see someone from Strangetown coming all the way to Pleasantview to pick up groceries lol. And it's also annoying to send a Sim to a completely different hood but they only end up meeting their neighbors.
I know the point of an uberhood is to let the Sim mingle, but I also think it would be fun to incorporate distance as a factor. Like, dealing with long-distance relationships, having to move for a job opportunity, etc.
I'll figure something out with the Visitor Controller and color keys 😁 It's a bit micro managey but at least I'll be able to decide on a lot per lot basis.
I'll also make exceptions for some Sims who should be able to show up everywhere, like police officers, SCIA agents, or Buzz Grunt because he owns a private helicopter.
