Hey, Gina, I have a question about 1D’s G-A-Y club show which is believed to be the show after which Louis was flown out by Simon to lock him up in the closet. Did the change in his behavior happen instantly or gradually after this? Maybe you have it archived on your blog? Thanks!

• The G-A-Y performance happened on September 17, 2011.

• October 1st, we got the first photos of Louis and his "model/student/influencer" girlfriend.

• October 2nd... the AIMH tweet.

ELOUNOR TIMELINE

It's pretty clear from very early on that Louis' visible queerness was not going to fly. And they started with a beard. Give him a girlfriend. Paint him as the world's best boyfriend. Make the world think Harry and Louis no longer live together.

• One Direction's first concert happens just two months later. The Up All Night Tour starts December 18, 2011. The era of sailor stripes and suspenders.

• The Take Me Home Tour began in February 2013. You can see that all of their looks were starting to change. They were starting to grow up and they evolved over the course of the tour.

• The Where We Are Tour began in April 2014 to promote Midnight Memories, the album with the biggest change in their sound. You can see Louis has embraced that pop punk look by then.

• The On The Road Again Tour began in February 2015. Louis' physical image more or less stayed the same. However, whiplash season began with the end of Elounor, the departure of Zayn, the start of Party Boy Louis, and then Babygate.

daisie, hi. sorry just for confirmation as to your last rb, why did simon take it on louis of all member tho? did he feel threatened by him or it was because louis is the one who acted "bravely" among others?

I don’t know for sure why, but Simon always had something against Louis. From the beginning. Perhaps he saw him as a threat to his money making machine (1D) early on because he appeared too gay. Then it likely switched slightly, when Louis was the more vocal one who fought for what the boys wanted as a band, as opposed to just doing what they were told. 

Once the band went on hiatus, Simon got his claws on Louis, and Louis signed with Syco. I don’t know exactly why he did, but I think it could have something to do with Syco having first right of refusal and not letting Louis go. Other things could also have been at play at the same time, and I’m sure Simon made it so Louis had no other option but to sign with him again for his solo career. As in, if Louis didn’t sign with Syco and stayed with Simon, he wouldn’t have a career at all.

The industry is ruthless, and Simon has always played dirty. For whatever reason, he acted on this vendetta against Louis, and “punished” him for whatever distorted thing he deemed Louis had to be punished for. He locked Louis in shitty contracts with Syco and Xfactor, he stilted his career for years, he changed Louis’ image, put him in several stunts, gave him beards, a long term beard, and made him pretend to have a child. Simon is truly evil. Why Louis, I don’t know. But let’s just say it’s not a coincidence he named his label psycho syco.

Entonces el babygate fue una estrategia de Simon para sabotear la carrera de louis para dsp del hiatus? Y cmo para que?, para que como que no se fuera de syco? Y no tuviese discografía? (Tngo muchas preguntas JAJKSKS perdón) y otra pregunta esto de sus videos de la trilogia como que segun yo igual son su historia ,como que el sabia lo que iba a pasar?

Holaaa!! Omg muchas dudas, veamos:

1.- Así es, al menos es una de las hipótesis más lógicas que se han analizado

2.- Louis fue uno de los principales factores de que 1D despegara, es muy inteligente y él con sus estrategias + su poder de escribir canciones. Simon quería que -él-creará un grupo en txf que fuera igual de grande y exitoso, porque a partir de 1D, los números del programa se fueron hacia abajo 📉

3.- Para que no expusiera todo lo que él sabe ¿? 🤷‍♀️

4.- Más bien que no fuera reconocido como merece. Añadiendo que Louis era la principal fuente de dinero de Syco (por eso al irse, quebró).

5.- Repito, Louis es muy inteligente. Además, ese tipo de planes no los haces de un día para otro, llevan mucho tiempo y sabes cómo saldrán las cosas. Los videos son sólo representaciones de cosas que posiblemente ya estaban ejecutándose y sólo son simbologías de cómo estaba saliendo todo.

Bueno, nadie puede saber con seguridad porque decidieron seguir alargandolo ya que nosotros solo vemos el 1% de las cosas que pasan detrás de escenas, pero si por seguro es que el hecho que babygate se haya alargado es consecuencia de la guerra detrás de escenas de Simon, Syco Vs 1D y de Simón, Syco Vs Louis (puedes consultar sobre eso en este post , aca otro post sobre la campaña de desprestigio en contra de los chicos) también podemos ver como babygate se les salió de las manos Incluso a estas personas, desde el inicio vimos el mar de inconsistencias que habían y hasta ahora todavía las hay.

Babygate solo es una parte de toda la guerra detras de escenas que ha estado ocurriendo durante años.

Hi gina. I was just watching louis' diary of a ceo podcast and he mentions that he stayed with syco after 1d ended for loyalty reasons. Do you think that's true? Because if it is, I just want to bonk louis in the head like wtf were you thinking?? He would have done so much better those initial few years if he had just left. I really don't understand why he chose to stay for loyalty reasons of all things

No, there's no way that's true. But I'm sure he can't say why he stayed. It's pretty clear they wouldn't let him go. IMO, it was the easiest way to keep control of both him and Harry.

Louis has had so much loss and tragedy in his life and to think about everything in his professional life - the closeting, the beards, bbg, radio blacklisting/blackballing - it is truly heartbreaking. He is such a strong person to withstand all that and still be such a beautiful person inside and out. But one thing I don't fully understand is, why? What did he do to trigger all of this? Is it all about controlling Harry? Or something that I'm missing? Thanks, Gina. PS - I found your "For When You Are Blue" tag and I've saved it for when those days come. My guess about Louis is that he pissed people off because he was the one who always spoke out for the boys. And he got in the way of them being able to fully manipulate Harry. He was always the fly in the ointment.

I really think that's all he "did." And he had the misfortune of doing it in an industry run by homophobic people motivated solely by money and power, and who lacked any empathy or compassion.

Hi! I wanted to ask if you could give me some background info or maybe point me toward other sources (I don’t want to take much of your time) about why Louis is marketed the way he is — in so many aspects, at least this is what I’ve seen

- He often says he doesn’t go to the gym or take care of himself physically, and that he mostly likes junk food and alcohol, yet his body doesn’t reflect that at all.

- During the early years of the band, he was without a doubt the most flamboyant one — even more than Harry — yet he’s now marketed as super serious and almost the complete opposite of H.

- He used to dance a lot and make many of the moves on stage — he was usually the one starting them, the one everyone followed — but now he says he hated that part.

- I also notice that everyone loves him. I’ve seen so many famous people describe him as super hot, mesmerizing, charming, etc., almost as much as Harry, but that doesn’t get talked about in the media. And I want to be clear — I have nothing against Harry being recognized. My intention isn’t to compare them to downgrade Harry, but to point out how underappreciated Louis is. Even within the band, you could tell he was probably everyone’s favorite — the way they laughed at everything he said and followed his lead — yet it’s only us fans who seem to talk about that now.

- And don’t even get me started on his role in One Direction’s legacy to this day…

He’s so undermarketed, not just musically but in every sense — and I really don’t understand why.

Oh, man. This is such a multifaceted topic. I don’t even know where to start.

A lot of it just has to do with homophobia and closeting. He was definitely instructed at some point to tone down the flamboyance (somewhere around 2013 when we got a complete fashion overhaul and were introduced to pop-punk Louis).

A lot of it has to do with separating him from Harry. He was positioned as everything opposite to whatever Harry was. Harry is healthy, Louis isn’t. Harry is posh, Louis isn’t. Harry exercises, Louis doesn’t. Harry has celebrity friends, Louis only hangs out with his Doncaster mates. Etc etc. There may be levels of truth in all of that, but the point was to set Harry apart because he was the house the label was betting on.

I think Louis was a fly in the ointment for Simon and for Sony. Not only did he push back against the suits on behalf of the other boys, but he and Harry were a team. And Sony wanted Harry. So he was saddled with bad press and blacklisted from radio and tied up with babygate, etc.

I honestly don’t have the energy to detail everything else that’s gone on in his career and why it’s happened. I do believe that a lot of it is petty bullying and a lot of it boiled down to a way to control Harry.

As for why they market him the way they do? God knows because so much of it isn’t working.

Hi Gina, maybe this has been talked about before, but I recently saw a video of Jedward talking about the X Factor contracts, they said because they were still underage (17) on the show, the contracts they signed weren't binding, so when they turned 18, they were asked to sign 'their whole life away'/new contracts, which they refused to do. This got me thinking if Louis' contract may have been different/more restrictive from the start because of him being 18 and having no bargaining power as a hopeful contestant, unlike the others who turned 18 when there was already a vested interest in 1D? Could this maybe be part of the reason why Louis seemed the most loyal to SC for a time? Love your blog 🫶

Hi sweetheart. It's possible. We've long theorized that Louis' contract was different from the other boys' because of his age. But it's anyone's guess why Louis was stuck with Simon all those extra years. I really do believe a lot of it had to do with Harry, though.
