Summary:

Ladders has been a servant of the Seelie Queen for as long as he could remember- which isn’t very long at all, in the grand scheme of things. Regardless, he’s fallen into a familiar rhythm. That is, until the revel. Until the strange woman with ice cold skin and fiery hair comes along, and with her a prince as vibrant as the forests surrounding them. Ladders finds himself lost in a dizzying world of sparring and deals, grounding dreams and floating realities. At the center of it all is the prince, and the woman, and somehow… Ladders himself.

i come bringing a happy slightly crack au to ease the pain that can also be angsty if you feel like it or think about it too hard (i have lol)

you know how the Old Sherrif jokes about Jimmy going through puberty? what if sheriff jimmy was just like… a kid. like a young pre-teen that was just like. weirdly tall at first. all the other emperors are just completely oblivious and think he’s just short/squeaky for an adult. fWhip and the Old Sheriff are the only ones who actually know he’s not as old as he claims to be, but fWhip ain’t no snitch and Old Sheriff is quickly forced into a parental role he was not prepared for after all the other children he abandoned.

Joel builds him the giant best buds thing and Jimmy is just trying so hard not to show emotion because “this adult thinks i’m cool and actually likes spending time with me now, holy moly”

also jimmy and hermes have a cousin-like relationship once the others find out. i don’t know how they do find out, maybe Joel finds out Jimmy’s bday is approaching and throws him a party with the others, only for him to get really sappy because he hasn’t had adults put in this much effort for him in who knows how long. Cue the revelation that he’s not even old enough to drive yet and everyone is just extremely impressed by his skill, because that is young to be that good at building.

this is barely developed in my brain but i’ve been thinking about it nonstop.

Awww this is actually really cute ;-; It could also explain why he has such a strange concept of justice and how the law works, why he's so quick to demand to be treated as an equal adult and to get everyone's approval, why all the Toy Story jokes were so annoying to him cause yeah he's young but he's not a baby for crying out loud. He's too old for toys.

Oh my god that means he was also a kid when fWhip gave him a baby- OHHHHHH...

A thin, taloned leg clutched onto Jimmy's shoulder as the sheriff walked through the desert. The occasional flap of a wing kept him somewhat cool, he supposed, and that was nice with the sun beating down on his neck and back. He just didn't know why Grian insisted on riding on his shoulder as opposed to flying.

"You know, I would be making better time if you weren't riding on my shoulder," Jimmy said, looking up to where the short vulture avian perched, scanning the surrounding area.

"I'm keeping a watch out for danger. Besides, I'm not that heavy," Grian said, shifting his foot from one shoulder to the other. Jimmy glared at the path in front of him and scoffed, shaking his head before shaking his whole body with force.

"I am not a vulture carrying service!" he shouted, glaring up at Grian, now perched on a rock.

"Aw, but Tim, you were doing so good for the past hour. I would hate to take away from practicing your skillset," Grian said, chuckling as Jimmy turned from him and stomped off into the distance. He'd catch up later.
