#ThirstyThursday! I have been waiting too long to get this review out. Life got in the way a bit. If you have not heard of @pauljohnwhisky, #LISTEN⏫. I know what you are thinking. #India makes #SingleMaltWhisky ? Well the answer is yes, and they do it quite well actually. Enter #Brilliance. This is #PaulJohn's first wide release, and it is a hell of a start. It's aged in ex bourbon casks, but is not your run of the mill #Malt. Bottled at 46% #abv is a great start. More flavor is never a bad thing. This should be rule #1 in single malt bottling at 92 Proof this whisky is by no means hot on the palate. The bourbon cask imparts some great sweetners in the nose even though this is a young malt. There is fresh green fruit, confectionary, think of your grandma's baked cinnamon apples. Don't be afraid, go ahead and stick your nose all the way down in your glencarin. The palate is a perfect blend os sweet and spicey. There is Caramel and raw honey that give way to warm baking spices the perfect amount of sweet heat. The mid palate is full of vanilla and citrus. No pun intended but #Brilliance is pretty Brilliant. This is a recipe for success. It's refreshing and youthful with out being overly brash and unmatured. I did not add water, I really don't think you need to, and ice could wash the follow through away. The bourbon cask really imparts some influence and if I was tasted blind, I swear I would never have guess this was all barley. There is a sweet corn feel right on entry and I think it is going to throw some palates for a loop. Well done guys. This is a great entry into the US market. I'm not sure what price point is but I'm in with both feet under $70! Tell Amrut to eat their hearts out. With a malt this good, I hope I never see another businessman from India drinking Johnny Walker and Soda again! #SingleMaltSaturday with #HighlandPark. 18 yr is one of the best value age stated malts on the market. I can usually find it under $120. For me that's under special occasions, but a little pricey for a rotation sipper. You are getting value here. This is a lovely sherry monster with whisps of Peat smoke and an ultra complex palate. I always keep a backup around, and with #SingleMalt prices soaring, I may hold a few extra back. For me this is a must buy. It's a non traditional bottle shape but don't let that fool you for a second. This #Edition is a #SherryBomb and takes home two #trophies in #2016WhiskyAwards. This is both #2016SingleMaltScotchWhiskyOfTheYear and #2016WorldWhiskyOfTheYear. If you love #SherryMatured Whisky, absolutely get out there and #BuyIt.
