Righteous Ale by Sixpoint Brewery

Sixpoint, from Brooklyn, NY, makes one of the best IPAs I've ever had in my entire life, Resin. They also have another good IPA, Bengali Tiger. I can't say Righteous Ale lives up to the standard Sixpoint set with those two. Righteous Ale is a rye ale, hence the nice play on words name. It pours a medium brown color with a frothy head that shrinks somewhat slowly. At 57 IBUs, it's approaching IPA territory but not quite hoppy enough. That being said, it's still a pretty hoppy beer. I can't believe I'm saying this but honestly, it might be too hoppy for this style. Hop bitterness seems to be the dominant taste (with a little pine) and that distinctive rye taste is just a sliver along side it. I want to taste the rye more in a rye beer than what Righteous Ale has. The malt does balance the hops well though and provides a nice creamy quality to go alongside the sharp hoppiness. Righteous Ale is certainly not a bad beer but I'm not going to be clamoring to buy it again.
