Apparently, answering the phone whilst driving and attempting to break GDPR and having no boundaries with work are the skills we are looking for in junior doctors.

Oh, and don’t forget we musn’t bother senior staff.

Hi, thank you!

So just as a disclaimer, I got a distinctly average SJT score. I had an academic job so my score didn’t matter, but basically I’m not an expert. I got above average in the practice tests online, but it’s a very day-dependent thing.

The main thing is to get used to the style of question. I used the questions on passmed for this, they were pretty good because they’d explain the answer. I got SJT practice questions along with all the (very useful) finals questions on passmed for like £20 so I think it’s worth it.

Going through Good medical practice is a good idea as well. I read through and highlighted key concepts that they could ask about.

Some people went to the courses in London, I personally didn’t, as they were very expensive. I’ve heard mixed things, some people say they help, some people thought it was a waste of money/time. 

Then there are 2 practice tests online - do these at least once each, and I would strongly advise printing off the answer sheet and practice writing your answers on there, because it’s a certain format you have to get used to. And do it in the time, because one of the things I found is it’s quite time-pressured.

PLAB 2 and SJT results

So i headed to London to take my first exam of the year, the SJT (situational judgement test) for my UK Foundation Program application. It was such a weird exam and i felt like i didn't know what i was doing. the results came out mid-March and thankfully i passed and didn't fail miserably like i thought i would. 

I went back to London for about 6 weeks to prep for PLAB 2. I took a 2-week course with Aspire Academy. it was kinda brutal. every single day of the week, 9-8pm of lecture and practice. Then after the 2 weeks were done, i practiced with some people i met at the academy for 4 weeks and had my exam on the 1st of March. The results came out at the end of March and I passed. it felt like i messed up so bad and i thought if i passed it’d be a lucky pass, but i did exceedingly better than i imagined. God really came through for a g. I was so happy because it feels like things are finally falling into place. 

What this means is I am able to apply for my provisional license to practice, which is what I’m doing now, by sending GMC (the general medical council) the documents they requested. I already got my credentials verified with EPIC. 

Because i’m not  a UK citizen or from the EU, I'm on the RLMT (reserve list) and have to wait for those from the UK/EU who have ‘right to work’ to be allocated jobs. Waiting up until the end of April to find out about my allocation details.
