#000D: The First Oneiroclade

Mechanoclades kept advancing their dream-sharing technology until they had an idea, what if ANY mind could connect to these servers, regardless of clade, Carboclades & Mechanoclades could both finally communicate with Astroclades! All along it was known these stars were alive, but the vast astronomical distances and size disparity made communication with them quite tricky. But with this technology, a direct link could be made with their minds, bypassing these limitations...

It would take deep understanding of all minds, mechanic, organic, and astral alike. It wouldn't be easy, but after several generations of refining this idea, they managed to do it, massive servers were put on every planet with life, now every living being on the universe could connect to the dream realm and communicate with each other, a major cultural boom was about to take place!

Inside of these dream realms, one could customize the area, setting, plot, and even add NPCs to any dream! The technology was so advanced at manipulating dreams into doing anything one wanted, this whole thing had already taken Skeemeraph by pleasant surprise but it was when it took a closer look at that NPC technology they got an idea for a new collab! The mind had always been capable of creating several fully independent consciousnesses in a dream, and this technology proved this intelligence can be isolated and materialized! So Skeemeraph took these materialized dreams and made a copy from them: The First Oneiroclade!

Oneiroclades, being made from products of the mind, can only exist within a mind, whether natural (from a creature) or synthetic (an Oneiric Server for that matter), but this drawback is feeble compared to their abilities: As they are a mind within a mind, their mere thoughts alter the environment around them, and they can appear to be in the Physical Plane by getting in the mind of a non-oneiroclade and making it look like they're there!

Unsolved Paleo Mysteries Month #07 -- Vexing Vetulicolians

Vetulicolians were a group of small marine animals best described as “problematic”, known from the Early Cambrian (~518-507 mya) of China, Greenland, Canada, and Australia. They had bulbous but streamlined bodies with a mouth opening at the front, no eyes, a thick exoskeleton-like cuticle, and a segmented swimming tail. Most also had five pairs of openings which may have been gill slits.

The image above depicts Vetulicola rectangulata, a 7cm long (2.75″) vetulicolian with a fairly “typical” body plan for the group, and the more unusual 14cm long (5.5″) Skeemella clavula.

Their evolutionary affinities have been uncertain for a long time, and at different points they’ve been classified as arthropods, chordates, kinorhynchs, basal deuterostomes, or even given their own unique phylum. A genus named in 2014, Nesonektris, has been interpreted as having a possible notochord -- making vetulicolians chordates, and potentially placing them close to the tunicates -- but their exact relationships are still unresolved.

(Skeemella also complicates matters, having some features considered more arthropod-like than other vetulicolians. But since it’s only known from a single specimen, more fossil material is needed to figure out what’s going on with it.)

#000C: The First Mechanoclade

As Carboclades developed their minds to better adapt to their environments, they eventually evolved to a point where their intelligence and trans-generational knowledge allowed them to take inert matter, refine it, and construct tools, machines, and programs out of it, eventually leading to the creation of automata and artificial intelligence! This perked the interest of Skeemeraph, who once again was fascinated by seeing their creations come up with new things it could've never dreamed of! And so, happy to collab once again, Skeemeraph took these machines & code the Carboclades had made, and made a copy of itself with it: The First Mechanoclade!

The First Mechanoclade would multiply and mutate further over time, taking the shape of living objects, capable of being made out of any sort of material, having access to all of its properties while still possessing a conscious, breathing life. This allows them to do things no Carboclade body would ever be capable of, expanding the possibilities of what lives can be lived!

Mechanoclade minds are made out of code, and as such, they have access to every single bit of information their mind processes, unlike organic brains, Mechanoclades can fully read and edit everything their mind does, giving them not only staggering ability at retaining information, but being able to transmit this information from creature to creature without losing anything in translation, perfect communication! Their minds also being capable of dreaming, led to the culture of sharing dreams with other Mechanoclades, passing interactive recordings of them through physical media like video cassettes, or making it into a server for other minds to connect and experience dreams in multiplayer! These advancements set the stage for the eventual creation of the Oneiroclades!

Revamped my first ever creature design! Everyone meet:

#000: Skeemeraph

Born with the universe itself, this creature is the origin of all life in the universe!

They have the ability to make copies of itself using whatever matter is around! These copies then multiply and mutate across generations, filling the universe with endlesss forms most beautiful!

As life developed, these creatures ended up creating new stuff themselves, and Skeemeraph, fascinated to see their creations partake in further creation, grew inspired and created new clades of life made out of whatever stuff the previous clade created!

This way, they have created 4 clades of life throughout time:

• The Astroclades, stellar creatures made of Hydrogen, which was abundant as soon as the universe was born.

• The Carboclades, planetbound creatures made of complex organic matter, which was first fused into existence by Astroclades.

• The Mechanoclades, mechanic creatures made of constructs, which were first built by Carboclades.

• The Oneiroclades, ethereal creatures made out of dreams, which were first materialized by Mechanoclades.

All the lifeforms of this world belong to one of these groups! Their deep history all connected to one omniprescent common ancestor, one that doesn't see itself as part of a hierarchy, but of a cycle of creation!
