I've been struggling with learning biochemistry this Christmas break. I've taken classes in both undergrad and first year, but I always end up memorizing everything and nothing sticks. I was trying to use Boards & Beyond, which is great for lecture repetition in most topics, but lecture just doesn't work for me in biochemistry. Yesterday I got an email from a Cornell MS4 who found me on LinkedIn asking me to try his product for free in exchange for feedback on it. What was his product you ask? It's called Pixorize and it's basically Sketchy but for biochemistry! WHAT ARE THE FREAKING ODDS?! If you haven't seen my previous posts, I LOVE Sketchy Micro and Sketchy Pharm because they take memorization topics and turn them into visual mnemonics that make everything so much easier to remember. I haven't watched all of Pixorize's videos yet, but the ones I have watched have all been less than 10 minutes, have super easy to remember mnemonics, have a nice couple second recap at the end, and have a funny and engaging narrator. If you want to try them out, the first two videos are open access if you set up a free Pixorize account, but this is an absolute game changer for me. I didn't get paid to write this or anything other than the free subscription he gave me, but if you struggle with biochemistry as much as I do, I'd definitely recommend checking them out!

Hello! I wanted to ask you if you recommend sketchy pharma? Is it as good as sketchy micro?
Hi! So I used both Sketchy Pharm and Sketchy Micro. First off, yes I recommend it, but I personally did not like sketchy pharm as much as micro, but it was still extremely helpful and some of my classmates liked it more than the micro version.
The reasons I liked it less is because the videos are longer (a lot longer) and more crowded, mostly because they include a lot more background science in the videos (example: folate pathway being included in the video along with methotrexate, 5FU, hydroxyurea, and side effects). Some people liked this fact. It was cumbersome for me.
However, this does not mean I didn’t find it helpful and I DEFINITELY recommend it. Again though, the videos are extremely long, so if you want recommended chapters: Autonomics, Cardiac & Renal, neuro and psych drugs, and antimicrobials. But if you have time for all of it, use all of it. There were only about 5 videos overall I never used because they just didn’t work for me, but different videos work for different people.
If it helps, pharm was terrible for me. Pure memorization is not my strong point, and Sketchy Pharm helped turn that topic into one of my best. I would not be surprised if I didn’t miss a single one of the pharm questions on my Step 1 (I don’t know my scores yet) because I felt like I knew the answers to all of them, in large part because of Sketchy Pharm helping me memorize things.

Guys, I love ID. I really hope I get to do an ID rotation on Medicine. If you remember, I once posted the mnemonic I swear by for viruses. Well here is the bacteria counterpart. Also your micro mantra should be: sketchy is life. Love Andrew like I do (this part’s not the mantra, I just love Andrew).

Sketchy Pharm
I was a relatively recent convert to Sketchy Micro which I have been obsessed with since the beginning of second year. I didn’t start it sooner because I’ve tried Picmonic before and thought it was so stupid. Now I’m trying out Sketchy Pharm for this endocrine block. I’m not impressed at all because the videos are so much longer and the voice overs are terrible. I’ve only seen 3 of them, but all the scenes had so much going on in them to where it seemed cluttered. Especially the girl narrator is so cheesy. And so far, it hasn’t helped me with learning the actual names of medications although it has helped with learning mechanism of action.
I think I will just watch certain videos on subjects I’m weak on as opposed to watching every single video twice or so in Sketchy Micro like I’m planning on. What were the best and worst videos to watch?
