"You have to tell me why we're committing a felony before we do it. Not that that's going to stop us, but at least I'll have the facts."
"How about... it's a secret."
Sabo had a crooked smile, a look of mischief in his eyes as he turned to face you, placing his top hat precariously on his head. You narrowed your eyes, watching it begin to fall even while he just breathed. He always did this. He'd been your best friend in the Revolutionary Army for years, and still, he just had to make you fix his hat for him.
Every. Single. Time.
"Bend down, dumbass," you said, reaching to adjust his hat to a more suitable position, "and tell me the truth."
Apparently, he was put in what was effectively a "time-out", having to go to take the day off since he was obsessively keeping tabs on Luffy to ensure his safety. It didn't bother you. You knew how important Sabo's brother was to him. Still, you fixed him up. His blonde hair, soft in between your fingers, ended up nicely tucked into his signature hat, save for the waves that evaded your every attempt to tame them.
Just when you were done, he looked up and gave you your favorite smile, one his his playful ones that made your heart skip a beat. You still leaned close to him, so close you could feel the warmth emanating from his build frame. He leaned his cheek into your now empty palm, and the softest of his skin had your blood rushing to make you blush. You could never tell him how you really felt. Still, he nuzzled into you for a moment before taking your hand gently in his and...
He. Licked. It.
He licked. Your hand.
"Sabo!" You yelled as he took off running, on his way to committ a little mystery crime, laughing hysterically. "Come back here!" You wiped you hand on your pants before sprinting after him.
He was such a little mongrel when he didn't have to deal with his Chief of Staff responsibilities for a day. It was adorable.
But you didn't have time for that. It was revenge time now.
He'd booked it down the hall to your left, paying no mind to the papers that flew with the breeze he created. You had to think. He was fast. Running after him directly, you would end up losing him before you even managed to catch up. Your feet hit the floor heavily. Your lungs burned with exhilaration.
Wait.
You stopped dead, turning around in this sea of meeting rooms and corridors, breaking into a smile.
He forgot it was a circle.
Your gut tingled with giddiness, looking at the little path at which you could intercept him. This hallway looped back to a specific spot, and judging by the hall that stood in front of you, and the one Sabo had gone down still on your left, you were in the perfect place you just needed a hiding place.
Ah-hah! The door to one of the meeting rooms was cracked just a little. Wonderful.
You slipped in, quiet as you could be, hiding behind the door for the perfect chance to strike. Before long, you could hear his footsteps, much softer and faster than yours coming through the corridor.
You had to time it right. Your heart was pounding in your chest, your lungs screaming for air as you held your breath. You made sure to disguise your presence with Haki just in case.

You sprang out from your hiding spot, tackling Sabo to the ground and pinning him underneath you, your hands resting on his chest. His hat flew off his head, leaving a messy tangle of blonde waves bare to the overhead lights. You could feel his heart hammering underneath your fingers from all of the running. Your heart was pounding too, though you hadn't run for a little bit. His own palms had settled at your waist during the fall. His stomach moved as he laughed, showing off a genuine smile. Those brown teddy bear eyes you loved so much shone with happiness, crinkled at the edges in his delight.
You grinned and laughed along with him, your fingers finding themselves tracing the scar on his left eye, moving the hair that threatened to cover it. His fingers seemed to solidly grasp onto you. It had gotten quiet now. Both of you were catching your breath, it seemed.
"I think the felony is that you stole my heart." He blurted from underneath you. You froze, butterflies filling your stomach. He didn't mean it that way. He couldn't. But when you looked into his eyes, you could tell he was serious. The smile on his lips had faded. His eyebrows quirked upward in a hopeful way.
"What do you mean?" You whispered, your hands falling closer to his neck now. His soft hair gently brushed your fingertips.
"I mean," he paused, "I'm in love with y-" You pressed your lips against his, earning a surprised noise before he pulled you closer. Your fingers delved into his silky hair, making it messier than ever before. The warmth of his hands pressed into your waist and your back. The blood in your veins sang. The adrenaline in your body almost made you feel dizzy. You licked his bottom lip, waiting for him to open his mouth so you could explore it. You didn't even have to look at him to tell that he was happy. You could taste the smile on his tongue.
It seemed like an eternity before you pulled away, leaving him to push himself upward to chase after your lips.
"Got you back." You winked, an echo of his previous playfulness in your voice.
Then, before he could process what just happened, you took off and ran, laughing with the success of your little crime and not daring to look back when he yelled for you to wait.
Needless to say, he caught up in the end, raging blush and all.
