A car whisked past the ‘Welcome to Haddonfield’ sign as the early morning sun rose over the horizon. In the back of the car sat a young girl, sound asleep as her mother tiredly stared at the road ahead of her.
Passing many shops and houses as she sped down streets, desperately trying to find their new home. She groaned and finally reached the right street, slowing down to a stop as she pulled into the driveway. Her eyes darted to her watch and she sighed as she decided to make herself comfortable in her car seat, trying to get a bit of sleep before her young child woke up.
Across the street, a boy the same age watched from his window in his dark room. His emotionless eyes watching the car shut off before tilting his head slightly in question.
‘New neighbours...’ He thought.
-----------------------------
The sun reflected from the side mirror into the young mothers closed eyes, making her stir. She shot up from her seat and looked in her rear view to see a sleepy smiling child.
“Good Morning Mommy” She said sweetly, following it up with a cute yawn. She smiled at her daughter and relaxed in her seat. Moving her stare to herself in the mirror she noticed the messy tangles her hair was in. She pulled on her (h/c) locks before seeing her daughter mimic her movements in her seat in the back. She spun in her seat and beamed at her child.
“How about you help me bring all our stuff into the house and then, once we’re done, we’ll drive into town to see if they have some yummy breakfast to eat, hm?” The little girl giggled and beamed back, nodded her head enthusiastically. She turned back and opened her door to get out, zooming around the car to her daughters door.
Before she opened it however, a small shadow across the street up in a small window caught her eye. She turned and stared curiously, only for it to disappear a second later. Pursing her lips she covered her face with her hands and groaned, afterwards looking back at the house seeing nothing but an empty window.
“Must be tired still” she muttered before helping her daughter out of the car.
-----------------------------
Both mother and daughter yawn as they set the last of the boxes down on the empty living room floor. They look around at the large empty house and smile. “I know it’s a bit big for just the two of us but I promise it’ll look a bit smaller once all our stuff is brought by the movers” She said, running her hand through the (h/c) locks of her daughters hair. She smiled and hugged her moms hip, squishing her pudgy cheek against it.
“Can we go get breakfast now, pleaseeeeee?” The older woman smiled and picked her up, swinging her around. After a few moments and groaned and put her back down, giving her child a mocking glare.
“Man you’re getting too big for that, but yes, we can go get some breakfast now.” The little girl squealed and ran out the door, her mother following after her slowly. They got in the car and took off to a diner across from the middle school.
They quickly dropped down into a booth and giggled to eat other at they kicked at each others feet. A waitress came over promptly, delicately placing menus in front of them both.
“Hi welcome to the Haddonfield Diner! I’m Lily! What can I get you guys started with today? Drinks?” She greeted politely. The mother-daughter duo both abruptly stopped their giggling and smiled back at the waitress.
“I’ll have some chocolate milk please” (Y/N) said sweetly, swinging her legs under the table. Lily nods and scribbles it down on her notepad before turning to the girls mother.
“Just some coffee with milk and sugar on the side please” Lily nods again and scribbles some more before beaming brightly and tucking her paper into her apron pocket.
“Alrighty, I’ll be right back with those, take your time looking over the menu” She spun on her heels and stalked off behind the counter to grab their drinks. The pair turn back to each other and go back to giggling as they poke and kick at each other.
“So you excited for tomorrow angel?” She asks her child. (Y/N) tilts her head in question before her eyes widen.
“Oh my gosh! I almost forgot about Halloween!” She squeaked loudly. Her mother chuckled and shushed her. Blushing, (Y/N) covered her mouth and shrunk in her seat.
“Halloween? Now what are you dressing up as this year?” Lily questioned as she placed the drinks down. (Y/N) smiled and put a finger on her own chest proudly.
“I’m gonna be a clown!” She announced. Lily and her mother laughed and (Y/N) looked between them confused.
“A clown? But wouldn't a cute little girl like yourself want to be a princess or a cute little animal?” The waitress cooed. (Y/N) pouted and crossed her arms, sliding back in her seat again. The mother answers, shaking her head.
“Nah, she’s an odd duck this one. Likes all kinds of weird things” She teases. (Y/N) stuck her tongue out at her. Lily laughed again and pulled out her writing pad once again.
“So have you guys decided or do you need a few more minutes?” (Y/N) bounced in her seat.
“I want pancakes with butter, and syrup, and whipped cream!” She blurted out. Lily jumps a little in surprise but giggles at her cuteness. She turns to the girls mother and she mouths ‘two’ while leaning across the table to grab a napkin. Lily nods and smiles again, putting away her note pad.
“Ok! That’ll be about 10 or so minutes, I’ll be back once they’re done!” And she left.
-----------------------------
“That was pretty good hm?” The young mother asked, swinging her daughters hand in her own. Her (h/c) hair bounced as the 6 year old nodded her head. She opens the car door and helps her daughter up before closing the door.
Veering around the car, she spots bright blond hair across the road. Halting, she made eye contact with a young boy, looking to be the same age as her kid. He stared blankly at her from the fence of the school yard as other kids ran around seemingly having fun.
“What cha’ lookin’ at mama?” Her daughter chirps from inside the car. Without looking away she calls back to her.
“Nothing honey, just looking at your new school is all” She mumbled.
-----------------------------
They arrive home shortly, just in time for the moving truck to pull up next to the house. Two middle aged men hop out the large vehicle and walk over to the mom as she steps out of her own car.
“I hope you guys had a safe drive here” She said, walking up to the men with her hands in her pant pockets. (Y/N) unbuckled her seat belt and spun around to stare at the adults. She could only hear a soft mumble of the words being said.
Across the street a blond boy was walking along the sidewalk and stopped once spotting her mother. She scurried out of the car and skipped over to the boy, startling him slightly.
“Hi I’m (Y/N)! I just moved here today! What’s your name?” She asks. He just stares with an emotionless face, making (Y/N) start to fidget awkwardly. “Um...” She looks behind herself back at her mother before turning to the quiet boy once again. “Sorry, am I annoying you?” Again, no answer. He just stares. Although only being a few inches taller, it felt like he was towering over her. “If I’m bugging you I’ll just go, I just thought I’d say hi...” She mumbles quietly, turning her gaze to the ground.
“Michael!” A voice shrieks. Her head snaps up to see a blond woman at the door in front of them, glaring down at her son. “Get inside” She demanded sharply. Michael, as she know knew, just turned his head and locked eyes with his assumed to be mother, before she turned back inside.
(Y/N) jumps a little when he turns back to her suddenly, not blinking the entirety of it all. “I’m uh, just gonna go” She whispers shyly. She turns but he catches her wrist in his hand. She blushes as she’s jerked back and sees his expression still hasn’t changed.
“MICHAEL!” A louder shriek booms from inside the house. He drops her wrist and stalks up the steps of his walkway, disappearing behind the door swiftly. Rubbing her wrist she stared at the now closed door. He hadn’t hurt her but the abrupt nature of it made her flustered.
“Michael...”She whispers to herself before darting back across the street to her new home. Up from the window of the Myer’s house sat little Michael, watching the cute little girl cling to her mother with a bright, bubbly smile. He tilts his head again, the smallest trace of a smile etches on to his face.
‘Cute...’ He thought. His mother stood from the doorway, holding a limp dog leash.
And THATS ALL FOLKS. For now at least. I hope anyone who read this enjoyed it and feel free to request more or anything else. I’m a very unbusy woman as of late.
