The other day I saw a movie with my mom that was about a girl and a dude that got married when they were teenagers because they loved each other and blablabla. So years later they're engaged to other ppl (but they didn't really love them) and they see each other again to get divorced without their partners knowing and they start "falling for each other" (again).

I cringed so bad the whole movie... because even when everything worked out for them (duhh because it's a movie) they still hurt people they 'loved'.

I think it's a really bad trope, and I can think of a thousand movies that use this, like a relationship with someone other that the main character is just an obstacle the couple overcome and not a scheme where people get hurt.

Examples of movies that use this trope:

Sleepless in Seattle, Autumn dreams, The lake house, etc.

They aren't necessarily bad movies, in fact Sleepless in Seattle is one of my favourite films, but I just really hate this concept, specially when its badly executed.
