A Night To Kill
When Ghost's nightmares haunt his dreams, he decided to roam the base in search for something to do. Unfortunately though, those long legs of his decided to bring him in front of Jade's room.
Luckily, Jade knows exactly what to do.
Pairing : Simon "Ghost" Riley x Charlotte "Jade" Le Jardin (OC) Word Count : ~ 5500 (I went a little bit overboard on this one) Prompt : Sleepover AU based on this ask by @ziadhid7 Warning : Full on Fluff, Some Good Ol' Cursings
Title and story inspired by the song Tourist by Yuna
Ghost woke up in a cold sweat. His breathing ran fast and heavy as he registered that he was in his own room in Task Force 141's base, not the dark, cold, confinement of the wooden coffin Roba used to bury him in. Ghost covered his sweaty face with his hands, still trying to convince himself that this is the real world, not a nightmare.
Once his breathing calmed down, he moved his left hand down his chest, and stopped on his left rib, right above the big scar where Roba hanged him – the exact position where Jade punched him during the CQC practice. The wound itself has closed, it has long been healed. Supposed to be, at least.
But that punch by her triggered his trauma so much, it's like that hit was a key turn that unlocked his memories of torture that he'd buried deep inside him.
And now he can't fucking sleep.
It's not her fault anyway. Jade didn't know anything about his past. All she'd known at that time was that Ghost was the annoying lieutenant of Task Force 141 who had some anger issues to sort out, and called her infuriating and rude nicknames at that.
That was, until Jade forcefully opened his balaclava, exposing his whole face and identity to her. She was also aware of his struggles of staying asleep in peace. That woman knew more in a week than his fellow soldiers in months. It's like her presence forced him to show his true self, even if it's bit by bit.
Ghost took a deep breath, before sitting himself up as he realized that his shirt was soaked in his own sweat. He then changed his shirt with a new, clean one and wore his worn skull-painted balaclava, complete with black shades, going out of his room to find some air. Going back to sleep would result in the same outcome anyway.
After ten minutes of walking around the halls of the base accompanied by the moonlight, he realized that it's only 0130 hours. If he didn't go to sleep, then what, is he going to walk around until 5 AM when he's supposed to wake up? Furthermore, Ghost was tired. Exhausted. He hadn't had a decent sleep since forever. His only form of sleep was during the daytime, when his body became so tired it decided to just shut down while he's sitting down.
His big yawn proved his point.
So the lieutenant kept walking and walking while his brain tried to rack up a plan on how to sleep peacefully, or even what to do for three and a half hours to keep himself up. Cook? He's positively full. Grab a cigarette? He smoked the last one yesterday. Practice range? The whole base will be suspicious.
After finding no answer to his questions, he looked up, and finally, Ghost found himself standing before a room.
Jade's room.
Ghost's standing inside the women's barracks. Which were quite far from the men's. In the night. Alone.
Why the heck, did these cursed legs of his, bring him in front of Jade's door?
He pinched his temple through his balaclava. What did he wish from meeting her in the middle of the night? It’s 1.30 AM for God’s sake. She must’ve only slept around 2 or 3 hours, the last thing he wanted was Jade seeing him as the weird bloke who roams the fucking women's barracks in the middle of the night like some sort of weird creep.
Except, she knew about Ghost’s circumstances. She was aware that he rarely sleeps judging by his dark under eyes and big eye pockets, although she knew nothing about his past stories, about his torture, his family, nothing about it. Jade once found himself asleep during lunch, and it was all the confirmation she needed. That midget had this not-so-surprisingly high observation ability (she was an MI6 agent for fuck’s sake) that she utilized to survive.
Well. Screw it. He's already in front of her door. Ghost lifted his hand and hit the door three times, a little too hard.
The owner of the room expectantly opened the door in a hurry with sleepy and messily tied hair, face completely alert. “Ghost?! What happened? Is there an emergency call? An attack?” She asked hastily, looking around the entire hallway.
He really needed some power control on his hands.
Ghost stayed silent. “...Nothing’s happening. The mission's still tomorrow. If there’s an actual situation the alarm will activate throughout the whole place.” He muttered before gesturing his fingers to the ceiling. She was not exactly a military personnel, so that’s fair she didn’t know.
Hearing that, Jade’s face contorted into a confused one, her right hand resting on the door frame while the other rubbed her tired eyes from sleep and tried to adjust itself with the light as her room was dark, “So– what was that banging I heard from my door then?”
“It was me.” He answered.
“...You?” Shifting her weight onto her hips, the ginger’s eyes grew softer as she connected the dots. She glanced at the watch on her wrist, 0145 hours, then looked up at his completely covered face.
“Yeah.” Ghost answered shortly. No need to sugarcoat things at this point.
“Can’t sleep?”
Damn her and her discernment.
Both of them only stood in silence, him still awkward about not being able to sleep and actually sought her in the middle of the night. He’s past 30 years old, dammit, cringing at himself while standing 9 inches taller than the woman in front of him.
After the long deafening silence, Jade clicked her tongue and looked him straight in his covered eyes. “What do you want from me?” Her words sounded soft. Not a single venom or judgment tone came out of her mouth. Just Jade, purely questioning what he wanted from her after waking her up.
“...I don’t know.” Another short answer, because he actually, genuinely, didn’t know what he wanted.
Another silence, and finally, Jade nodded, ending the awkward situation, “Fancy a cup of tea?”
Ghost tilted his head in surprise, “Tea?”
“Yeah.” Confirmed her, lowering her hands to her hips, “I don’t know if this place has tea or not, but I actually brought a few boxes of tea packs.” She said, pointing at her back with her thumb.
“Now?” He asked again.
“No, tomorrow. Of course now, Ghost. Wait here, I'm gonna get changed.” She joked as she went into her room again, about to close the door, before Ghost halted the door with his hand.
“Where are we going to have this tea?” He inquired.
A few seconds, “What, are you afraid that people will see us in the mess hall?” She's many things. A mind reader could be one of them. “Fine, then where should we drink the tea? Here?” Jade retorted back, not expecting his answer to be a confirming nod.
“Oh." Jade bit her lower lip in contemplation, "Alright. We’ll drink in my room.” She relented.
“I’ll get the cups and water.”
“Wait! wait wait wait.” Jade suddenly stopped him. “I stashed some cartons of milk in the fridge. Bring one. It’s in the far back.”
“You brought milk to the base? What are you, a child?”
She pulled out her unimpressed face, “Said the bloke who woke me up in the middle of the night because he couldn’t sleep.” She got him with that one. “Just go get it, will you?” Jade flailed her hands in the air in command.
He only huffed before walking fast to the mess hall, heating up water while taking two cups from the cupboard. He then stepped to the fridge, opening the door, finding three cartons of milk stashed deep inside the freezing box.
She really came prepared.
----------
After braiding her hair into a loose fishtail, Jade turned on the lights, then rummaged through her bag to find the boxes of tea that her mother packed for her. There were three brand-new boxes of tea with different flavors each. Which one would Ghost like though? Well, she'd let him choose later anyway.
Tidying up her room, Jade made some space on the floor for her and Ghost to sit on. These rooms weren't the biggest, that's for sure.
Ten minutes after Ghost woke her up, he finally knocked on her door again, now with a little less power. Jade opened the room, finding the man holding a cheap thermos containing water, while on his other hand hung two plastic cups containing two tea spoons.
She smiled, "Welcome to my humble abode, Mr. Ghost. Make yourself at home~" Jade jokingly acted. Ghost only scoffed and entered her room.
This is his first time looking at her room. The first thing that he registered was the smell. Her room smells like…flowers? He didn't know what she did or if it's a woman… thing, but her files actually said that Jade was a florist during her inactive days, so that can explain the fragrance. The place was tidy and clearly had been prepared to welcome him here as the floor looked bare.
They both sat on the floor, Jade on the side with her bed as back rest while Ghost sat on the opposite and put down all the stuff he brought.
"Okay, so." Jade clapped her hands together and pulled out three packs of tea in front of him. "I have three types of tea in my possession. I have… green tea?" She put the green tea box down. Ghost lightly shook his head.
"Chamomile tea?" The white colored box was placed right beside the green one. Again, Ghost shook his head.
"...Mixed berries?" She put the last box down slowly, hoping that he likes berries…at least?
Silence.
"Don't you have any ordinary tea, Midget?" Ghost asked in dissatisfaction.
"I like tea with tastes okay?? It's not like my mum packed this for you!" Jade exclaimed as she prepared the cups in front of her.
“Your mum packs for you?” Ghost asked jokingly.
“SHE SECRETLY SNUCK TEA INTO MY BAG! Now pick one.” She couldn’t believe him. Dear Lord, give her strength!
Ghost sighs, "Fine. I'll have what you have. Not the berries, though." He stated as he folded his arms.
Jade stared at him for a few seconds, before taking the green tea and mixed berries boxes away. "Let's have the lightest one, chamomile tea, shall we? Wouldn't want something too strong at 2 AM."
"Hm." Ghost finally relented, taking the thermos up as Jade put the chamomile tea packs on each cup. He poured the hot water onto the cups while she poured some milk, taking four sugar cubes and putting it on her own cup. "How many sugar cubes do you want?"
"Two." He said, putting the thermos away. Both of them then waited for the tea to infuse itself. Staring at the teas as the water turned yellow in color.
"...Looks like piss." He mumbled out of nowhere.
Jade giggled at his thoughtless comment, "It kinda does, actually."
Finally, the tea is prepared and they're ready to drink.
Ghost and Jade lifted their own cups of tea. The woman took a sip of the tea first while Ghost hadn't.
"You didn't put any sleeping pills on this tea right?" Ghost retorted.
Immediately her tea went down the wrong pipe, resulting in her coughing over and over. "Why would I do that to you?!"
"Can't be too careful." He said before opening his mask up to his nose, taking a sip of the chamomile tea as Jade could only shake her head in disbelief.
She looked at him as he drank the tea. He didn't show any sign of liking it nor disliking it as the only thing she could see was his mouth.
"How is it?" Jade asked.
Lowering down his cup, he finally said, "That's alright." before sipping again. That put a smile on her face.
"What kind 'ordinary' tea do you like, if I may ask?" She started the conversation.
"Black tea's my go-to back in the UK. Drinks in rations aren't exactly variable."
"Oh. Suits you, I guess."
"What about you?" He asked back.
"I actually love green tea with honey the most. But today I, uh… feel like drinking something different."
"Hm."
For a while they sat together, drinking their own tea in silence. No need for forced conversations. Just tea and company. Ghost didn’t know the last time he felt like this with someone, a woman, at that. She didn’t seem like the loud type, rather the silent type, but can talk when she’s required to.
This is… enjoyable.
“Wanna play cards?” Jade’s words broke the silence. Her cup was halfway empty while Ghost’s almost done.
“You brought playing cards, too?”
“Not playing cards.” Standing up, she went to her bags and fished out a deck of colorful cards, showing it to Ghost.
“...UNO cards? Are you serious?”
“Hey, don’t judge! I play UNO with the kindergarten kids back home so this is the only thing I’ve got, okay?” She defended her UNO cards while sitting down in front of him again, pulling all the cards out from the cover. “Besides, I don’t wanna expose kids to playing cards that early, don't you think?”
“We’re adults, Midget.”
“Ah ah." Jade lifted her index finger, "I prefer the term ‘kids at heart’, Mr. Ghost. Sometimes the child in me just wanna match colors and numbers, that’s all.” Jade stated while mixing the cards in her hands.
Lo and behold, the cards fell all over the floor because of her clumsy hands. “Oh, blimey.” She instinctively tried to pick up the littered cards, not expecting Ghost’s hands to join hers.
Both of them stopped at the touch, looking up at each other’s eyes. Even though Jade couldn’t see his eyes due to his shades, she could feel him staring at hers too. The atmosphere felt so intense as she could literally hear her own unbelievably loud heartbeat. It was obnoxiously, very loud.
What, is it because Ghost's hand happened to touch her own because he wanted to help? This is very childish. Too childish. She's 29 for God's sake!!
Ghost moved his hands to gather the UNO cards, snapping her out of her thoughts. Jade blinked hard to come back to reality. Whatever the hell that was, that could have won the award for the most awkward moment of the year. GOSH.
"Looks like your hands are too tiny to shuffle the cards, Midget." He started, shuffling the deck of cards on his bigger hands.
"I–It's been a long time, alright. There were too many cards for just the two of us anyway. Let's just use half of the cards, or we're gonna play until the sun rises."
----------
"UNO!" Jade shouted as she put her second-to-last card.
"W-What is that?"
"Don't you know? If you have one card left you have to say 'UNO!" or you'll have to draw 4 wild cards." The red haired woman explained.
"Okay so UNO!" Ghost shouted back.
"No! You have to say it before I say it!" She laughed as grumbling sounds could be heard from the man's mouth.
"Well that's fine by me, Midget, because no matter who says it first…" He took one card, lifted it so high before slamming it hard on the floor, she swore she could feel the ground vibrate, "You're taking four more, if you don't have a red card." A devilish smile could be heard from behind that mask as she looked at the +4 card he just pulled.
"DAMMIT!!" Jade whined loudly as she only had a yellow card number 6 on her hands. "But if from the wild cards I draw there's a red card I can put it down."
"Where the fuck did that rule come from?!"
"From me! My room, my rules!"
"Is this how you play with the kids too? Setting up new fucking rules for your own benefit, innit?!"
"No!" Jade countered, feeling offended, "I set up the rules so they can win, Ghost. Some kids that age still have trouble differentiating colors and numbers!"
"Oh really?! Then I get to set my own rules too." Again, he slammed an UNO reverse card. "Let's switch decks." Ghost said as he gestured to Jade's 5 cards.
When she saw that Ghost still had 12 more, she couldn't believe what she heard, "WHAT?! UNO reverse cards are used to switch directions, not switch card decks! I'm overruling this rule!"
"Then overrule that ridiculous rule of yours too!" He accusingly pointed at her.
"SHEESH!! Fine! Game on, Beanpole."
------
After 30 minutes of 'UNO!', 'NO I SAID IT FIRST', 'THAT'S NOT THE RULE' and 'YOU CAN'T ADD +4 TO A +4', they finally gave up and decided to end the game with a draw.
"Wow. You're fucking infuriating at games, Midget." Ghost said as he rested his head on the wall.
"You're the one who came to my room, Beanpole. I just wanna make this night fun to kill. Besides," Jade smiled as she leaned in to tidy up the cards. Ghost too decided to help. "I swear this game is better with more company. UNO with only two people is hell."
"Let's not play this bloody game ever again." The man huffed while taking the cards onto his hands.
"Maybe next time we can bring Soap, Roach, and the others to play as well."
"Not a chance. Meat and Roach will set this base on fire." He retorted, prompting a light laugh from the woman in front of him. This time though, their hands brushed over and over, yet they couldn't care less about it as they're too exhausted to care.
After they put the cursed card game away, the both of them stared at their tea cups. They're already in the 3rd cup. At this point all they want to do was to close their eyes, off to the dream world already. Ghost realized that he's at his most tired state in the longest time thanks to that damned card game when he yawned.
Seeing him yawn, Jade asked, "You feel like sleeping now?" She stood up and turned to her bags to tidy her belongings.
Ghost sighed, "I really want to sleep, but I really don't know if I can do it peacefully." He said before lifting his shades up to his forehead, rubbing his tired eyes in the process with his fingers.
That question made him close his eyes in contemplation. It's half past two. He could use all the sleep time he could get. However, there's no guarantee that the nightmares won't come back to haunt him again. If he went back to his room and tries to sleep, it's like going back to square one.
Jade hummed in understanding, taking all the tea packs and sugars up to the bedside table, trying to at least make the room a little decent looking to sleep in. After a few seconds of thinking though, the woman turned around. "Ghost, what if today you sleep he–OH MY GOSH YOUR EYES ARE RED." She exclaimed upon looking at the man's eyes. They were bloodshot and slanted, eyebags so massive it could crumble at any point.
"That bad, innit?" He covered his eyes again in an attempt to compress those eyes with the palm of his hand.
"No shite, you look like you're about to drop dead." Jade sat back down in front of him, voice full of worry, "You need to sleep, now."
"I know I should, Midget, yet now I can barely sleep more than 2 hours. I have no bloody idea on what to do with it." He stated tiredly.
Well, this is hard.
But it's worth a try.
"Ghost." Jade called his name.
"Hm."
"...Wanna sleep here?"
Another silence, "You want me to sleep with you…?"
"Not that kind of sleep, of course. I mean, sleep in this room, with me."
"Yeah I know, that's what I meant, Midget. What exactly are you planning?" He asked in confusion. Should the last thing she wanted was a dude sleeping in her room?
The ginger huffed, "Call this weird if you want, however… Back home, when I worked at one of the orphanages, there were tons of kids with nightmares as a result of abuse and just, you know, kids being kids." She told him. "And throughout my experiences, I found one common thing that all of them say."
"What is it?"
"They want me to sleep beside them." Stated Jade softly as Ghost still looked into her eyes. "And usually, it works wonders. Now, I don't know what works for you. I mean, you're a big lad, and you can make your own choices." Jade shrugged while gesturing at his figure, "All I'm saying is, since what you've been trying has still left you awake, we might as well try something diff–"
"Okay." He cut her words. That caught her off-guard, obviously. She thought that he'd be against it at first, considering how prideful he was the first time she met him. And now he's accepting her offer for a sleepover. That's a change.
"Oookay. Let me think of something." Jade turned around to face the bed while clapping her hands together. There's only one bed.
"We won't fit in that scrawny bed, though, won't we." Said Ghost as he stared at the single bed in the room. No way in hell both of them can sleep side by side with that. The military isn't one for big, luxurious beds in base either.
"Exactly my thoughts. Now what do we do?" Jade scratched her head, trying to think of a solution.
Not long, Ghost got an idea.
"Midget, you don't happen to have a problem with your back, don't you?" He inquired.
"Hm? Uh… no. Not really. Why?"
"Would you be opposed to the idea of sleeping on the floor?"
"On the floor?" As Jade thought about it, it actually was kind of a solid idea. The floor was decent in width, it could definitely fit the both of them together with some sort of distance between them. The hard surface problem wasn't really a problem as her body isn't that stiff either. And judging by Ghost himself who offered the solution, she guessed he's okay with hard surfaces too.
After considering all the possibilities, Jade agreed. "No, yeah. We can do that, absolutely. Only if we lay the blanket on the floor though, just to have some sort of bedding, however little." She confirmed before taking the blanket from her bed and laid it down on the floor.
She also took her pillow, giving it to Ghost. "Here, use this one."
"...what about you?"
Jade put some of her clothes out of her bag until the height was acceptable for her neck, zipping it up, before putting it down on the laid blanket. "Bag-pillow." Ghost shrugged in confirmation. That works too.
She's the one to lay down first on the blanket, placing her head on the bag-pillow. The blanket at least helped to stay warm in the night until the time they should wake up.
"This is not bad, actually." Jade tilted her head at Ghost, who's still standing at the end of the 'bed'. She then tapped the empty side on her right inviting him to lay down next to her. "Come here."
Ghost relented, kneeling down to place the pillow beside her head, before finally laying down right beside her. The both of them stared at the dimly-lit white ceiling with no exchange of words.
Falling into a comfortable silence once again, Ghost crossed his arms in front of his chest in an attempt to not touch her, because he realized that they are positively, very close to each other. He could even hear her steady deep breaths because there were barely 3 inches of distance between them, and if one of them shifted even only for a little, they're guaranteed to touch.
Ghost made that into the objective of the night : 'Sleep peacefully without coming in contact with Jade.'
In order to successfully achieve that, the man shifted, sleeping on his right, back facing her to minimize any risk of contact with her. He just had to keep in mind not to move too much. Not that he moves a lot when asleep, though.
"Sleep tight, Ghost."
He could hear Jade's low voice from behind her. Judging from her tone, she's ready to sleep, too, obviously. He's the one who ruined her sleep, after all.
And so, Ghost responded in the only way he knew, "Hm." He mumbled in response while closing his heavy eyes.
“I’m right beside you if you need anything.”
“...I know.”
-----------
The warmth of the sun ray hit her skin, prompting her sleepy eyes to open. Jade’s first instinct was to register that she’s not sleeping on her usual bed. The floor was hard and solid beneath her, which explains the dull pain on her ribs.
However, the first thing she saw with her eyes though, was Ghost’s bare face – sleeping face, maskless, shadeless – was right in front of hers.
The last time he saw his face was when Jade forcefully opened his mask during the sparring bet, and she made a point not to ever, ever again do that as it's a breach of his privacy. In fact, Jade's still beating herself up over how immature she was, to pry into his most well guarded secret like that. And now, she's seeing Ghost's face, him not knowing, cheeks fluttering red, precisely how she had reacted upon seeing him the first time.
She couldn’t even start to think what happened last night that they ended up facing each other like this, because she felt a heavy object resting itself on her waist, and true to her thoughts, it was indeed his right arm.
Jade’s eyes were opened wide now. She’s fully awake in this situation. Tilting her head upwards to see the clock on the wall that said 0456 hours. There were still four minutes left until her alarm activated. What should she do? She couldn’t move a single inch or else he’ll wake up. There’s no way in hell she’d risk prompting the awkward moment that will happen if she tried to get out of his arms. No way.
Out of nowhere, Ghost grumbled and stirred in his sleep.
There was only one word she could think of.
shit shit shit shit shit shit
Jade closed her eyes tight.
----------
A small movement woke him up. Ghost blinked his eyes rapidly to adjust himself to the light entering the room. Not even ten seconds into waking up, he’s shocked by the sight in front of him. There laid Jade, peacefully sleeping on her side, facing him.
The light made him realize that he wasn’t covering his face at all, too. At some point in the night he must’ve taken off his shades as it was pressing on the side of his face. It turned out he also removed his balaclava, too. She didn't see his face yet, did she? It looks like she's fast asleep.
What’s even more messed up was the fact that he failed his objective, which was not to touch Jade the whole night together. Such a simple and easy objective he thought it was, yet he clearly, gloriously, failed as Ghost found his left hand resting on her waist.
“oh fuck, fuck, fuck.” He mumbled silently in a low timbre, still heavy with sleep before sitting up right, lifting his left hand slowly and steadily in an attempt to not wake her up.
She didn't. Good.
Ruffling his jet black bed hair, he looked at Jade's sleeping face. Her loosely braided red hair the night before had turned messy and fell all over her face. Face relaxed, laying on her left side. She’s pretty, he’ll give her that. This woman has punched him on his rib, opened his balaclava that he never opened outside his own room, all in the span of a month.
And that fucking hand of his decided to sneak itself up to her waist.
Ghost sighed at himself, burying his face on his palms. He’s getting too comfortable with her. This could go bad quickly if he cannot stay composed.
He glanced up at the clock. 04.59.
Ghost stood up like a meerkat, wore his balaclava and shades in a world record speed, preparing to book it outside of her room, before he remembered to take the cups, spoons, and sugars that he brought here himself.
Before he could get the stuff on his arms, the alarm rang. SHIT.
“Ghost.”
Jade’s voice stopped his tracks, slowly turning his head to face her. Luckily his face was already covered with the mask, or else she'd see the most ridiculous face he'd ever made.
“Just relax, will you? What's the rush anyway?” she started sitting up, rubbing her eyes before tidying up her hair into a bun.
Ghost only watched as the woman stood up, taking her pillow and blanket that they slept on and folding the fabric tidily back onto her own bed.
"I have to go back quickly to my room. The boys can't see me walking around near the women’s barracks this early or else these muppets will be thinking ridiculous things." He grumbled at the thought. Usually the soldiers will start showing up around five minutes after 5 AM. He thought he could use that window of time to escape.
Jade only realized it now, "You're actually right about that. Blimey." She then quickly gathered up all the things Ghost brought over to her room up onto his arms messily. "You should go. Go go go."
"I'm going now." The lieutenant wore his shoes thoughtlessly while Jade opened the door for him. He jumped out of her room to the halway, ready to fast walk to his own.
Jade suddenly stepped out, "Ghost wait!!"
"What?!" He turned around grumpily.
A pause, "Did you sleep tight, at least?"
He had to wait a moment to remember the last two and a half hours. It was empty. He didn't dream of anything. Even if he did, he didn't remember any of it.
"I did." He replied shortly.
Her face turned into a relieved one. "Great. Glad it worked."
"Yeah. Thanks, Midget." His voice turned pleasant, still with that annoying nickname he gave her though. That won't go away any time soon.
Jade lightly chuckled, "Anytime, Beanpole. Now shoo! Before someone sees you." Commanded her as her hands flailed back and forth. She watched as Ghost ran towards the direction of his room silently to avoid making too much noise.
Once he's out of sight, she went inside her room again, closing the door, before pressing her back up to it.
Did Ghost just sleep in her room? And she's the one who initiated it?
Jade took a deep breath, exhaling all the air out as she walked over to sit on her bed.
Good thing it didn't go too weird. He couldn't sleep, so he went to her for some sort of solution, right? That was all, right?
Why her, though?
Jade clicked her tongue, dismissing the thought before she thought of something that wasn't even true. She then glanced at the white colored tea box, taking it into her hand.
2 hours earlier…
Ghost was having his broad back on hers. Mask still wrapped around his head, he didn't even move an inch since half an hour ago he only hummed to her as a form of 'good night'. She looked at his back earnestly.
Seeing his eyes that red from his inability to sleep genuinely hurt her heart. Jade had no idea at all about his past. All she knew from Roach was that 'he was tortured' and 'his family paid the price for it'. She didn't know the details at all. She never even dared to ask him about it. It's his story to tell after all. Who was she to pry and dig into his past? The only thing she wished for him is that he found his peace with it, because even though it was hard, she did.
Honestly speaking, Jade's forgot how many times she was tortured. Being an MI6 black agent since you were 8 does that to you, she guessed. She’s closing in to almost 20 years of being an MI6 agent now that she’s 29. It’s kind of fucked up to think that she couldn’t think of any more torture methods she hadn’t seen, hear, or experienced. Her body was a constellation of scars as the living proof of it.
Ghost's a strong man. He's one of the toughest soldiers that she's ever had the pleasure to fight, there's no doubt about that. He's a part of SAS after all. The man's competent and leads like a true leader with a strong mentality. So what did he experience that it made him this way?
The woman sighed at that thought.
All she could do to help was this. Just let him sleep beside her. Lending him her presence, hoping that in some sense, it granted him some sort of security and calm.
No answer.
Seeing him unmoving, Jade decided to call him in a low, half-whispering voice,
"Ghost?"
"...Beanpole?"
He snored, loudly.
Jade could only scoff before closing her eyes, ready to sleep. Chamomile tea works after all.
