...I just had an idea!
Back in SM009 (wow how did I remember this), when Hala asks Satoshi to think of an answer that doesn’t involved battling on how to deal with the Rattata problem occuring on Melemele Island atm. Kukui states that he had trouble with similar kind of question from Hala as well.
To which, Hala laughs.
Y’know.... could this come up in SM115? When Guzma appears in front of Kukui at Pokémon School? Maybe the two were under Hala’s ummm what’s the word... well, what if both of them were his apprentices, and both Guzma and Kukui were to answer this question Kukui is referencing.... it’s a reaaaally long shot, but Sun & Moon has been consistent with it’s early hints... So, maybe? The two know each other before-hand in the games too, and talk about how Guzma was rejected as a Trial Captain, and how Kukui didn’t become one either, thou Kukui chose to not become one.
The following three lines from him in the games got me thinking about this possibly being canon in Pokeani as well:
"Here we are, Kukui... Fellow rejects who never could become captains."
"We've got all these moldy old traditions in Alola—the kahunas, the captains... It's about time we cut out all that silly garbage and make something new for ourselves. Trust me, I get that."
"Don't get me wrong, though, Kukui. We've got no need for a Pokémon League. After all, everyone already knows who the strongest Trainer is on these islands!"
Kukui and Guzma were always hinted to have history in the games. Sadly, we never saw it be explored. However, judging by SM115 summary, we’re actually exploring this on one level or another in Pokeani, and that makes me super excited!
If this does become canon in Pokeani too, then maybe we’ll see something between Hala and Guzma. I liked that aspect in post game of Alola games. Seeing Guzma go back under Hala’s wing to re-learn trainer skills that don’t involve his violent ways... I really liked it, and wouldn’t mind seeing that come up in Pokeani too.
Anyone, just a theory that came up few mins ago in my head and had to write up. Let’s see how the episode folds up! We know there’s a battle between Guzma and Satoshi in it from Pokemon Fan magazine info, and now we got the confirm on Kukui and Guzma having some sort of ‘fated meeting’ history. I’m so hyped!
