GUZZLORD FALLING THROUGH THE CEILINGS WITH ITS CRY IS JUST PERFECT
Pocket Monsters Sun & Moon: Appreciation Week, Day 4: Favourite Arc
Ultra Ruins Arc
I feel a bit like I’m cheating due to this being a two-parter, but it has so much going on and such lovely themes of nature’s power (which pretty much plays a role in mastering the 10 000 000 Volts Z-move!), pararrel worlds, great potrayal of fearsome Guzzlord/Akuziking, and awesome development for Satoshi and Pikachu that I just have to consider it a mini-sized story arc. Had it not been for this trial from Kapu-Kokeko, our boy wouldn’t have been able to master their own Z-move, and he wouldn’t be the Alolan Champion he is today. And I mean it.
Bonus:
It’s pretty rare for the “older experienced trainer” characters in Pokemon to be anything other than perfect mentor figures so it’s really great to see Dia, as cool and competent as he is, actually learn something from Satoshi and grow to understand Pokemon better thanks to him. Their relationship felt really genuine, I wouldn’t mind it if Dia somehow made to this side and took part in the league or something, but it’s probably more fitting if he doesn’t appear again. This mini arc was really nice, the opening scene had amazing atmosphere and set up the importance of nature for when we hear about the wrong turn Dia’s world took. I found Akujiking and the atmosphere of the ruined world more scary in the games but I still bought the seriousness of the anime’s situation. I was really surprised they actually brought in the Satoshi-Gekkouga theme for the climax but I ain’t complaining, the greatness lives on~
How not to love Zeraora! <3
A quick thought about the meaning of Guzzlord’s appearances.
Last night just as I was about to go to bed, I realised I understood something wrong about Ultra Ruins episodes: The Guzzlord in Ultra Ruins didn’t actually appear because of the pollution, destruction of nature, and all that stuff. Now that we’ve seen SM140, I think Guzzlord’s arrival was just inevitable fate, just like other UBs appearing, and the destruction of Melemele in Ultra Ruins was due to people not caring for the nature and letting Kapu Kokeko lose faith on humanity and leave them. Thus, no one being there to help with defeating Guzzlord. Thus, Guzzlord creating such destruction.
This time in our Alola, everyone’s prepared for the day Guzzlord might arrive, Satoshi having informed everyone at Aether Foundation about what he experienced and what to do to prepare, and unlike back in Ultra Ruins, everyone still had Z-moves to use here, and Kapu hadn’t abandoned the folks for their disrespect on the nature and sharing life together. That’s the difference.
In Satoshi’s Alola, everyone loves the nature, and everyone’s sharing their lives to live together. Even Bourgain actually never went as far as polluting, thou I do think it’s a missed opportunity. In Dia’s world, people stopped respecting the nature and drove away the respect from Kapu, and didn’t live together as one with the nature. And that is why Ultra Ruins world was how it was. And It kinda feels like a message to us as well...
Might expand on this later after work, or not, depends if I have more to say. It’s just some thoughts I started thinking about.
Ofc we could just think that Ash/Satoshi winning the league was such a big disrupt in the order of nature that it caused three Guzzlord to wreck havoc
I may have forgotten that Iku Z instrumental played in SM101 :'D It's still amazing, gosh I remember the stream chat on live cast day... it was beautiful.
There's so much I love about Ultra Ruin Arc, the messages it tells us, the themes, the full package... man. I'm so happy they did these episodes.
Ohmygod I didn’t read the scene wrong!!!!
Bonus:
Gosh. This makes me smile so hard. ♥
