Italian Day on The Drive + Car Free Day on The Drive, East Vancouver [02:00min 2/2 #complilation of 2016-2017 Shot on Location by @smallstudiodesign ] That’s Amore! Viva Italia!: Italian Day, Sunday, June 10 2018; 12pm- 8pm. a 14 block festa ... Vancouver’s largest one day Street Fest – perhaps Canada. #eastvancouver comes alive in a giant 🇮🇹 piazza animated w/ #livemusic, food, patios, fashion, retail vendors, kid’s play zones + more. Vancouver’s #carfreeday (usually) 3rd Sunday of June (check listings) Sim. to others worldwide CFD-Van happens at multiple sites in different neighbourhoods (Saturday/Sunday). All community-based, volunteer-run: busy #streets are closed to cars w/day-long #festivities to promoting alternative movement, #sustainability, & regain additional open #publicspace ... Both #festivals are #carfree & #carefree ~ they encourage people to interact w/ each other while reducing CO2 emissions. #streetfestival like these are non-profit; featuring artisans, artists, businesses, & food vendors, plus #liveperformances : #music , spoken word, #dance & more. Backwaters + Backdrops: The Ebb + Flow. [02:00 min video tour of False Creek + Coal Harbour ] 50 years in the making (1968-2018) since Walter Hardwick had a vision (1968) that the industrialized sloughs & grotesquely toxic man-made effluent ditches of False Creek & Coal Harbour could, one day, be glittering, shimmering #rejuvenated #waterways of #recreation & #habitat #reclamation for marine & waterfowl. I’m so blessed to have lived as long as I have to see Mr. Hardwick’s “crazy” dream come to life. ... His visions were eventually championed throughout the #1970s with support of the local public multi-levels of governments: City of Vancouver, BC’s Provincial Government (Dave Barrett NDP) & even Ottawa’s Federal Gov’t (under Prime Minister, Pierre E. Trudeau) Daddy Trudeau & CMHC spearheaded the re-creation of Granville Island from industrial slum into thriving multicultural multi-use epicentre (what we see today). #shorelines #seawall #urbanrenewal #onthewaterfront We’ve come a long way to rehabilitate these once dank oil slicked waters of death & destruction. And it’s ironic Trudeau’s son wants to flaunt with risk that we might lose all this that we’ve worked so hard over half a century to make right. I’m not gonna sit idly by & let him. This last week, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has bought Kinder-Morgan’s pipeline project for $4.5billion - Insisting it’s in the national interest for RAW Bitumen from Alberta’s desecrated Tar Sands to travel down our fragile coast before journeying by ship to China. If built, in 3years, we risk losing all this.
