I’m not sure if anyone noticed but some fans are blaming Stephanie for having a non native person play Jacob. She’s the author she’s not in charge of the production and casting and she also said on her website she wasn’t in control of the casting anyway.
The people fans need to mad at are Catherine and the casting directors and producers.
But you can blame Stephanie for making sure POC weren’t playing her vampires because being a vampire makes you white
Yeah I saw some of that going around recently. I dont really know how much Smyer was involved in the making of the OG twilight movie. There are reports of her arguing with CHardwicke and the casting directors over several casting choices*, so that indicates that she could have been involved with the other castings. I know on her website it used to talk about how she only wanted native actors to play the native roles, but I dont want to give her revenue by clicking on her website and giving it traffic, so I don't know if its still there. Tbh we don't know a lot that went on behind the scenes of the films, so I'd say it's fair to criticize the situations we know about, and only speculate about others.
*Laurent, Alice and Tyler iirc.
I did it again!
Here's my second twilight tik tok contribution. Y'all seemed to like this one 😳🤷🏼♀️
Combining three of my favourite things:
1) Twilight
2) Supernatural
3) Dean being a dope and Sam being Done™️ with him.
Enjoy!
rosalie hale and her insecurities in the twilight saga
No one should bully anyone on social media or send death threats for that matter People criticized Meyer for years but all work comes with it We love twilight but we just don’t like the problematic themes in it especially the racism Fans should just tell without being mean that it wasn’t ok for her to view natives that especially any POC to fit her narrative especially bastardizing a whole tribe to fit her narrative Maybe her viewpoints can change
It’s completely unacceptable to send death threats to anyone, period. It doesn't matter if they’re an author, celebrity, stranger, friend. Completely unacceptable, period, end of story.
Now that that’s out of the way.... I don’t think Smyer is going to change her mind about anything. It’s been 10+ years since she wrote Twilight. Sure, I might be able to buy that someone could, or did, change after ten years. However, Smyer wrote The Host years after Twilight, and that has a lot of the same problematic themes, so we know that the ciriticism after the intial Twilight release didn’t get through to her. Then the Twilight Rennaisance started in 2018, and more criticisms came out, with much more publicity. And she didn’t comment on it, didn’t make any apologies to the Quileute tribe (let alone any finiancial compensation for stealing their culture and then bastardizing it), nothing. And then, in 2020, She released Midnight Sun. And not only was there no mention of the (Valid!!) Criticisms of her works in the forward or acknowledgments, but she seemed to double down on the problematic aspects of her work. I’ve seen several posts comment on how the writing style of Midnight Sun feels bitter, resenting that the fandom pressured her into finishing a book she had no intention of finishing, all while criticizing her at the same time. And I agree. I couldn’t even finish Midnight Sun because of it.(also Edward is literally the worst, most boring POV charater I’ve ever encountered, despite being blessed with the super cool gift of mindreading) Her viewpoint hasn’t changed. It’s not going to change. She has no interest in bettering herself or righting the wrongs she’s done. Honestly? I can’t blame people for memeing on Smyer. I can’t blame people who roast her. I can’t blame people who are agressive in their criticism. So, no. People shouldn’t be sending Smyer death threats. But they are absolutely, 100% valid in criticizing her, meanly, in essays, in memes. Whatever they want.
She’s had 10 years to learn, grow, and change. She has actively chosen to do otherwise.
The reason why Bella is eating a veggie burger and tells Charlie to lay off the steak is because Mormons aren’t supposed to eat that much according the Mormon book
Ohh, this is really interesting, anon! I assumed they made Bella a vegetarian was for the parallel between herself and the Cullens. I did some digging and it seems like the book of Mormon says to only eat meat on a rare or unavoidable situation, like during a famine or in the winter when veggies don’t grow as well. Several Mormon leaders have tried to make vegetarianism a staple of the church, but it seems like members are divided on the subject, and some of them take it more seriously than others. (Knowing Smyer, I’d bet she’s on the more serious side of things.)
They also prohibit hot drinks, caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco, which is why we never saw Bella scrambling to get her coffee intake before school started!
I know Meyer said the names of the werewolves came from her siblings but sometimes I wonder who was Jacob black based on
I have three theories about this, actually. Not that I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about it or anything, lol just something ive thought of in the past.
Theory One: Jacob Black was based off of his namesake, Jacob Morgan, her brother. This makes sense if you consider that the twilight saga was origionally only supposed to be Twilight and Forever Dawn, wherein Jacob’s character was much less important. Smyer has admitted that in her original plan, Jacob basically solely existed to tell bella about the vampires, be a friend for a couple chapters, and not have much else to do. This puts his character in a much more brotherly light, so it would make sense that he was based off of her own brother. Theory Two: Jacob Black, while named after Smyers brother, was based off of a love interest of hers. It’s been speculated that Twilight is the self insert escapist fantasy of an unhappy housewife. If this is true, then it would make sense for Jacob’s character to be based off of a former love interest, especially after the shift from a two part saga to a four part saga, where Jacob’s character is much more important and fleshed out. Maybe Smyer named Jacob after her brother, but once she realized he needed more personality and characterization in New Moon, she pulled ideas from her memory about an ex that she could have truly seen a future with, that just didn’t work out for some reason. The way that she writes about Jacob, how his smile was like the sun breaking through clouds and other romantic sentiments, feels much more personal and emotional than the way that she writes about Edward’s unatainable beauty and such. But at that time, Twilight had already been written and sent to an editor, so she couldn’t change his name. So Jacob stuck. Theory Three: Some unholy combination of the two. No further explaination.
