So, my Athael laid a clutch of eggs on the 23rd of July. I don't know if the follicles were too close to each other or what, but 8 out of the 16 eggs had areas with no calcium in the shell, ranging from about 80% to as little as about 15%. They currently all show strong veins, but the last time I had a clutch like this all the affected eggs ended up dying.

I am checking on them once a week and applying anti-fungal powder in the hopes of keeping at least some of them alive to hatch, and I'm going to document it weekly. No vein photos today because I need new penlights.

6 of the eggs at least are fully shelled, and I think I'm going to move them into their own eggbox.

So I took some advice from my friend Lisa and changed things up. Red Tide is a 2014 animal. First laid in 2019, 10 good 1 infertile Laid again in 2022, 4 good 7 infertile Laid now in 2026, 18 good Usually I do most of my feeding up to breeding weight prior to pairing, then give small meals here and there while paired. This time I fed heavy while pairing. 6 jumbo rats between 9/1/2025 until 12/28/2025, which is a ton for her. Paid off well with 18 beautiful fertile eggs.

I know I haven’t been the most active lately- I’ve been moving houses and it’s been a bit of a hassle, but I’ve also been working on something very very exciting on the side…

We did it! Petunia and Borat, my pair of hognoses, produced 7 beautiful fertile eggs! They all have visible embryos and veins on candling and are gorgeous. She only had 3 slugs which I’d say is a solid ratio for a mom who’s never made fertile eggs before!

These eggs are currently sitting in the incubator and hopefully in 2 months I’ll be able to come back showing you guys a bunch of fresh new babies!

(Mom is doing very well too- photos aren’t the best as she has a lot of energy now that she’s empty! She looks like nothing ever even happened and I’m not entirely certain the whole ordeal was even much of a bother for her…)
