Tommy Lowry Tjapaltjarri (c.1935–1987), also known as Tommy Tichiwan Tjapaltjarri, Tommy Tjiyuwan Tjapaltjarri and Tommy Larry Tjapaltjarri, was a senior Pintupi artist and one of the original shareholders of Papunya Tula Artists. A founding figure of Papunya Art, he helped establish what became the internationally recognised Western Desert Art movement. His rare paintings are recognised for their bold linear compositions, sweeping ancestral pathways and Tingari and Snake Dreaming subjects, making them among the most historically significant works from the birth of contemporary Aboriginal art.
