Weirdest superhero trophy from a past adventure you've come across?
That's edging close to asking me what I think the weirdest superhero event we have record of is. And BOY is that a rabbit hole with no bottom. But when it comes to taking weird souvenirs for even weirder adventures that edge on the very limits of what I could call "far out" in a very hippie sense, no one makes a dent in the good old JLA back when it was still getting off the ground.
Seriously. This is only one of like, a couple dozen capers like this that took place within the first couple of years of the League's existence. Shit got WEIRD. FAST.
(DC's "dramatization" of the event serves as as good a picture as any. Because there's only so much you can make up about a story this stupid.)
A carnival is set up, seemingly out of nowhere outside the town of Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. Which was actually the original base of the JLA though no one would know that for years yet. The League's original "mascot" a young man named Snapper Carr brings his young lady friend there to spend the evening only to get sucked through a portal to another world! Honestly the most astonishing thing is that that sort of thing happened to Mr. Carr all the time. And still does from everything I've ever heard about the man.
Sending out a rescue call to the League, he was pulled from danger relatively quickly. And so the League decides to investigate without arousing suspicion, sending Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Green Arrow undercover as normal patrons of the fair to see what's going on. When they too stumble through the trapped attractions of the carnival and find on the other side a ship laden with a hostile alien race known as Angellaxians (not to be confused with the Appellaxians who served as the foil for the League's first adventure and it's original crowning glory one year later). The Angellaxians had sent a probe through inhabited space, secretly spying on weapon designs from across the galaxy in the zig zagging pattern that would eventually reach the Earth. Not wanting to be discovered by humanity, they set up the fair to abduct ordinary patrons so the Angellaxian spies sent to retrieve the probes could take human forms and slip by unnoticed.
They attempt to get the drop on the League and fail when Aquaman goes in after his teammates and manages to free the quartet, though not before their bodies are warped by an alien funhouse mirror serving as a last line of defense within the alien ship. Which morphed their bodies into the exaggerated forms you see on the cover above, more or less. Although if the invaders thought that these cosmetic alterations would either embarrass the heroes into retreat or somehow hobble them in the fight to come, they were wrong on both counts. The aliens were defeated, the probe destroyed and the perpetrators taken into custody by the Green Lantern Corps.
The absurd trophy to come out of it is, of course, the alien funhouse mirror itself. Which now sits to the right hand side of the Hall of Justice's entryway where it is most often lazily glanced at by those in line for a ticket. Many of whom don't even glance down to the plaque that explains the whole story telling WHY the line to enter the Hall has what seems like a chintzy fair decoration in it. Although obviously the alien technology has been removed from behind the mirror AND it's behind a special panel of polarized glass to render the energy it broadcast ineffective anyway.
If you want basically ALL of the contenders on this list, take a tour of the Flash Museum and the Hall of Justice and you've got basically 90% of the good ones.

YJ'98 is one of my favorite things ever.
After about a week and a half of editing and blender crashing- it's here! My fancast for the characters in the Young Justice (1998) comic!
Unlike a lot of their mentors and contemporaries, they don't have as much of a definitive presence in animation. So while some do have former voice roles, that's not what this is about. Hope you like it!
