In The Shadows

Villain’s breath got stuck in her throat, heart hammering so loud she was sure Hero could hear it.
She tried to gulp down her anxiety and got up to face her nemesis — or rather a kind of hologram of him.
"Well, fancy seeing you here." Villain tried to keep her voice steady, hoping she gave off a confident aura.
Hero stared at her with cold eyes, "Where did you keep it?"
"I see we’re getting straight to the point. Unfortunately, I have no idea what you’re talking about."
Hero abruptly grabbed her chin, pulling her towards him. "Don’t play with me, Villain. Tell me where you hid the map." His voice came out in a low growl and Villain tried her best to keep from shivering.
She tried to distract herself by focusing on the chandelier above them instead of the fact that Hero was in her bedroom.
"I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t even know how to read maps."
Hero’s eyes darkened at her obvious lie. The shadowy tendrils around his form reached forward, swirling around and caging Villain. They filled up the room, dimming down the lights so Villain could only see Hero’s face. Villain would never admit it but she secretly loved them, even though everyone thought it was a strange superpower for a hero to have.
"Impressive feature. I’m sure it comes in handy when making a horror fil—" Her rambling was cut off with a squeak as Hero pulled her flush against his chest, one arm wrapping around her waist, the other still cupping her jaw.
"I’ll ask you one last time. Where. Did. You. Hide. The map?"
Villain tried to give some kind of answer but she was too aware of the close proximity between them, of the fact that she could just tilt her head and their lips would be touching. Hero’s face was illuminated perfectly by the tiny rays of light coming through the dark, in a way that made him look like an ancient God.
Apparently, silence was enough of an answer for Hero.
He shook his head slightly, dark curls falling into his eyes. Hero sighed and looked at Villain’s open mouth, "Well, that was disappointing."
He reached out to tuck her hair before whispering softly in her ear, "You’ll be regretting this, angel."
The lights flickered and went out for a moment. When they came back, Villain was left alone, no Hero or shadows gracing her lonely room.
