I am not comfortable using Bharatnatyam as an aesthetic because I have recently been reading Nrithya Pillai's writing, about how the modern day Indian mainstream rebranding of Bharatnatyam as a dance form has been inextricably tied to casteism and Brahminical supremacy, and I don't really want to romanticise it as desi academia without studying and educating myself further.
