The last thing I remember before waking up in a forest was walking through the city coming home from a late night at work. My manager needed me to close up so I didn’t get to head home until almost midnight. I don’t remember actually walking home. All I remember was a searing heat coarse through my body before blacking out.
The hard ground under me was sharp and rough, cutting the exposed parts of my arms. I was sore and a little cut up but otherwise unharmed. My clothes were wrinkled and filthy from the rocks. It took me a minute to gather my bearings on what was going on. I sat up, noticing I was within a dense forest, it was vibrant and peaceful but held an air of tense unease. I forced my aching body up off the ground and looked around.
The trees were massive reaching hundreds of feet in the air, only allowing minimal light to get through the leaves. The brush thick and vine covered. The ground was covered in leaves and sticks, tall grass picking out and swaying in the rustling breeze. The area was surreal in the best way possible. Although that didn’t put me at ease any.
“I’m so dead.” I sighed. There was no way I could tell which direction to go. I didn’t know the first thing about survival either. “How the hell did I even get here? Please tell me this is a dream.” Sighing I started off in a random direction. Moving was better than staying where I was.
I needed to find a shelter if nothing else, getting sick would not help my case any. A nagging hunger made itself known over the following hours. I beat myself up over not eating lunch that evening. Though I didn’t trust myself to not eat something poisonous despite the plentiful barriers, so I pushed forward.

As night began to fall I made due with a rock overhang as shelter. I wouldn’t be able to sleep, as I had no protection from animals and needed to move at any moment. Thankfully I was able to start a fire with my emergency lighter and some paper spray that I always carried on me. I stoked the fire once more before settling in for the night.
“Damn.” I cursed. How was I going to get out of here? With no clue as to where I was, I was more or less a sitting duck out here.
Slowly but surely the world was engulfed in the black of night, the only light coming from a full moon. The calm light filtered through the leaves and relaxed me slightly.
A soft zipping sound slowly made itself audible. Drawing my attention to my left. As it got closer it got louder. I moved to my feet as fast as I could. “Who’s there?” I shouted. I tried to make my voice as fierce as possible however failed miserably as my voice wavered uncertainly.
The zipping sound halted with the soft thud of feet on wood. It was in the trees? The source remained to my left although unmoving. I took a step away from the direction shrinking back as if to make myself disappear.
“Who are you?” a deep, crisp, male voice inquired. Making me shriek back in surprise. More zipping sounds made themselves present as they surrounded me. Just how many were there?!
“Aurora Lyte!” I shouted my name. I don’t think he would have heard me had I spoke normally. I felt so on edge, the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. The shadow of the man became visible in the moonlight. He was brood shouldered and tall. He was blond with thick eyebrows and blue eyes. He was at least six foot and stood intimidatingly above me from the tree branch.
“Why are you here? You shouldn’t be here civilian.” The voice spoke again. The threat was thick in his voice.
“I don’t know. I woke up here and have been trying to find my way out for the past several hours.” I raised my hands in surrender as I tried to shrink back into my make shift shelter. A clank of metal made me freeze in place though.
“What is the last thing you remember?” a feminine voice asked to my right. I spun to face the direction in surprise.
“I was walking home from work. A searing, burning pain spread through my body and I passed out. I woke up here. That’s all I remember. Please don’t kill me I swear I’m telling the truth!” I pleaded. I had never been so terrified in my life. So help me god, if I just got myself involved with a gang of mafia I’m screwed.
“What should we do Commander?” another male voice asked, only his seemed board and uninterested, more gruff. Commander?
“Aurora was it?” the blond male asked.
“Yes sir?” it came out more as a question then a statement. If this guy was a commander… oh dear god.
“You are trespassing on military property, as I cannot trust you at your word you will need to come with us.” I stared blankly at him for a moment before what he said sunk in.
“Which branch?” I asked cautiously.
“What?” his voice seemed to go up an octave as if he was thrown off by my question.
“Which branch of military, Marine, Navy, or Air force?” I asked cautiously.
“None of those. What are they even?” his voice sounded even more confused than before.
“What do you mean ‘none of those’ those are the only three branches of military that I’m aware of.”
“Ours is different. We have the Military Police, Stationary Guard, and the Survey Corps, and we are the Survey Corps.” he said seemingly as utterly baffled as I was.
“That doesn't tell me at all what I’m dealing with.” I sighed, frustration and confusion making me dizzy.
“All I ask is that you come with us. We will discuss the situation in the morning.” Apparently shaking off the confusion he returned to business.
“Hold up! Before I go with you? Who are you?” I asked hesitantly.
“I am the Commander of the Survey Corps. That is all you need to know for now.” The order in his voice was loud and clear even to me. I nodded softly.
“Understood.” I said loud enough to be heard. What on god’s green earth had I gotten myself into?
“Brat.” The same board voice form before spoke from directly behind me leaving me severely startled to the point I fell over.
The man was at most five foot three and sported a terrifying scowl. He had raven black hair and looked pail in the moonlight. Even though he was short he was most defiantly muscular. He wore a uniform of sorts. Nothing I was used to seeing. He wore a white collared, button up shirt that nicely sported a pearl white cravat and white pants. Leather straps around his legs and torso. A brown cloth skirt like piece around his waist and a long sleeve tan half coat that held a black and white wing crest, and finishing it all off with brown leather boots that came up to his knees. However the most unusual thing about his uniform was the metal rectangular boxes strapped to his waist, they held what looked to be more blades, as he held a gun like blade. Strapped to the top of each of the box was what looks suspiciously like a helium tank.
“What is that?” I pointed at the contraption.
“Stop asking unnecessary questions brat. Hang on.” I felt slightly offended by his brute attitude but otherwise just ignored it. However nothing could stop the scream lurching from my lungs as Mr. Raven hair sent us flying into the air. My stomach seemed to leave my body as I was lurched off the ground. The shock making me pass out entirely.
