What would've Jazz's life been like if his parents didn't force his optics open? I get the feeling he would've been suffocated by his parents :(

Unfortunately his life wouldn’t be much better.

Punch would’ve been nicer carrier, suffocatingly so. But Punch is still Punch and being different is a difficult ask.

Punch would still blame Snowcat for Jazz’s condition but to a lesser degrees. Just snide comments. Snowcat gets to hang around his son!

Jazz would’ve been completely blind for a while till Punch was able to scrounge up enough for a medical visit. While Jazz is getting treatment for his optics he’s got to navigate the world without sight and just off his carrier’s field, and when his carrier hates everyone and is angry all the time Jazz is an easily spooked sparkling. He’ll scream for everything and will only stop when he’s in his carrier’s arms. He doesn’t play or explore, if he’s put down he’ll usually bury his head in his arms and go into a defensive position.

Because he’s scared it’s taking Jazz longer to do things than a normal sparkling would. That combined with the constant screaming got old really fast. Punch would probably feel like they were losing their mind. Also Jazz still need a very expensive treatment which was draining him of shanix weekly. By the time Snowcat came back Punch was more than willing to let him deal with Jazz.

Jazz’s sire had a really difficult time connecting with him. Snow was almost never home or with Punch, so Jazz didn’t know what to make of his field. As calm and comforting as Snow tried to be, to Jazz he was a stranger.

So Jazz would do the only thing he knew how and screamed for his carrier. Snow would usually just sigh and put him down allowing him to locate his carrier by fields. Punch who found a new way to shut him up, since sparkling are sensitive to fields, punch would use their own field to shock Jazz, after that the crying and screaming would stop.

-This part of Jazz childhood really wouldn’t change until his optics actually started to improve. But I’d figured i would just set the scene.

By the time Jazz is able to start seeing, Punch begins treating Jazz very differently. Now Jazz is his perfect little sparkling. Punch went from ignoring him or being angry with him to babying him and smothering him but would still get angry at whatever they viewed as disrespect. Jazz would still cling to his carrier even though he was very scared of getting his field shocked. His carrier was the only semi stable thing he knows.

I feel like the babying would only get worse as Jazz gets older. Punch’s ability to go from raging to smothering Jazz would confuse him and make him very meek and submissive in personality. Unable to really find his true self, or his love of music without his carrier’s permission.

I think the version of jazz with healed optics would still handicapped by his own carrier instead of his own disability. Unfortunately by the time the war starts I think he’d still be hanging around his carrier and unfortunately would not have lasted long.
