The first clue Dick ever received about a status change in Jason and Tim’s relationship was when he happened to be in the Cave asking Tim to help with some analysis for a case. Jason arrived about halfway through and apparently passed through the kitchen upstairs because he held a garishly red popsicle in one hand. Dick, as a purveyor of all things icy, couldn’t decide if it was fruit punch or cherry and was about to ask when Tim finished entering the data, hit a few keys, and stood.
“Thanks, Tim!” Dick said with a smile.
“No problem.” Tim’s attention landed on Jason, who’d hung back watching them. “Oh hey! Don’t mind if I do.” With that, Tim leaned over and closed his mouth over the tip of the popsicle, tongue darting down to give it a broad swipe.
“There’s more upstairs,” Jason offered, eyes a little wild.
“I like this one just fine.” Tim winked, then wandered off.
Dick gaped, then shut his mouth with a snap. Well, it looked like he owed Babs fifty bucks. Damn, why did she always have to be right?
