I’m still shocked that Cybill Shepherd wasn’t nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars for her role as Katya in Scorsese’s Goncharov (1973).

Like, the passion she put forth in her performance. The elegant grace and fierceness with which she played the iconic femme fatale.

You can’t tell me she didn’t deserve an Oscar for Sofia’s death scene alone. The heartbreak, the emotion, the knowledge that her death was set in motion as soon as Katya stepped into the narrative. I still lie awake at night remembering Katya’s face as she tenderly kills the only person who ever truly knew her. It’s masterful, how Cybill portrayed Katya. She deserved that Oscar.
