The curses from the Arai are magic, not just an infliction of pain that can be healed away. Percy and Annabeth are still hit with the curses intermittently. Sometimes Percy’s eye just starts twitching again. His sides start to bleed where an arrow pierced through Geryon. Annabeth goes blind for a few hours. Percy starts gagging on gorgon’s blood. Annabeth starts panicking and screaming for Percy who can’t get to her despite the fact that they live together in the same apartment.
