Healer's instincts of self-preservation were screaming that he should call Phoenix, but if he does so the new villain will get more scared which isn't what Phoenix wants.
Poppet's face was pale, they would just panic again with their captor's presence.
"It's okay," he said with a soft smile, Phoenix did task him with the duty of calming Poppet down, "I won't call her just yet, you must have something to say, but do you want some water first?
I hope Bailey thinks the water is drugged :) (it isn't)
Drink water he gave them? And give him the easiest possible way to drug them? Not a chance. Even if Phoenix had said no about the drugs originally when talking to her healer, they weren't willing to risk it.
Bailey shook their head. "No, I don't want water," they said.
Could they risk asking the healer for help? Nothing ventured, nothing gained, after all. And even if the healer did rat them out to Phoenix, asking for help wasn't the same as trying to escape, so it wasn't breaking the rules.
It was splitting hairs, and Phoenix wouldn't care. The fact that they were trying to plan would be bad enough.
They opened their mouth, and the words just tumbled out. "I need to get out of here, please, please, please help me. She's going to- it's going to be like Slipknot all over again, and I can't, I won't, please, just— you don't even have to do anything, just let me get a head start! Just—"
Their throat was too small. Why was it so small?
"She's going to end up killing me, or she's going to make me into something I don't want to be, and I can't, please, just give me a chance."
