the more time you spend in fandom spaces, the more you realize that its really not that serious.

"the character said they liked a food one time and now everyone makes them eat it all the time!" i mean, its just not that serious.

"they wouldn't wear that!" okay.

look, its perfectly okay to not enjoy content like that. if you rather the character be depicted as if they would be depicted in canon with little to no fandom editing, thats entirely your volition.

however, it doesn't make it problematic that others have different views. so what if someone writes a character differently than in canon? its not canon.

sure, some people can go way too far with this, and im not referring to anything that would be genuinely problematic, but also in regards to that, inform rather than attack.

"its a white savior trope!!!" okay, explain it to them. tell them how that is the case, tell them how to avoid falling into it.

if all you do is attack attack attack, one of two things happen. 1. people listen wholeheartedly and decide fun is bad. if something is different from canon, its wrong. or 2. people stop listening entirely. if you scream at someone for a harmless changing of a character, nobody will pay attention when you point out an actual problem

TDLR: let people have fucking fun. these aren't real people, they're fictional characters. let people play with them like barbies.
