Veterans of #dryJanuary can tell you the upside. We all know that pandemic live has sparked an uptick in alcohol and other drug consumption. I’m not counting the empties in your recycling bin or anything creepy like that; a study shows that alcohol consumption is up 14%. So, it’s a thing. And... lots of people reverse some of the baggage that comes with a year of excess by detoxing or abstaining for the month of January. You don’t have to be a be on the “alcohol use disorder” spectrum to suffer negative effects from drinking every week... especially drinking 14% more than usual. Mood, weight-gain, financial challenges, physical health, mental capacity, all of these, lets call them setbacks, can be reversed. In a couple of weeks, an alcohol-free mind and body is going to look better, sleep better and feel better.
So the link includes some tips for the well intended but week ( I know, me too), and some other unexpected experiences of a month of living straight-edge.
