"What?!" Petra stood with her three best friends, staring up at the blonde one while he broke the news to the rest of them.
"Yeah, this is awful…" Gunther sighed.
"So there’s definitely no mixed volleyball team?"
"Definitely not," Erd shook his head and crossed his arms, sitting back in the chair at his desk, "If we want to play volleyball, we’ll have to join the other teams. But that means Petra wouldn’t be with us."
The rest sat around him; Gunther sitting at his desk in front, but he was turned to face him, while Petra and Auruo were perched against desks that weren’t even theirs so they could be close to the other two.
"We can’t do that," Auruo huffed and shook his head, "We’d be at a loss without our little libero."
Petra - not one to drag her friends down - gave them a half-smile. “Guys, if you want to play volleyball and be on the boys team… Go ahead, I don’t want to be the reason you all stop playing. Besides, I can just—”
"We could start a mixed team." Gunther stated, and which brought the other three to silence. Then Auruo spoke up.
"Yeah but who else will join? Those who want to play volleyball will be on the other teams, and there’s only four of us."
A hint of a smile grew on Erd’s lips and he straightened up from where he sat. “Actually, that’s a good idea. Hey, remember in middle school when we played against that team from Sina, and they had that really awesome setter?”
Petra furrowed her brows slightly, her mind working to recall the memory. “The tiny one?”
"Yeah, him! His name’s Levi, and I’m pretty sure he was awarded best setter in middle school." Erd stated then gestured them closer as he lowered his voice for whatever reason, "I heard he’s at this school. A few of his old teammates are as well."
"Maybe we can convince them to start a team with us, then…"
Petra sat at her desk for her second class of the day, her notebook open in front of her. She doodled in the corner of her page and swung her legs lightly, being unfortunate enough that they didn’t even touch the ground when she sat.
Actually being small was somewhat of a curse for her; at least it used to be. When she first started getting into volleyball she wanted to be a spiker. She loved the idea of smacking the ball over the net, she wanted the thrill of scoring points for the team. But when she first started she wasn’t even five foot tall. She couldn’t jump high enough to reach over the net and no matter how hard she tried she never succeeded.
But then she was shown the role of the libero and took to it immediately.
A half-sigh left her lips and she dropped her pen onto her notebook. How long would it be before the rest of the class turned up, including the teacher? Hopefully it wouldn’t be long, because she was starting to get bored. Unfortunately she didn’t share Maths class with anyone she knew.
