09:45AM // Thurs Jun 8 // Some perks of working at a “start-up” tech company is the abundance of food and entertainment. SocialCode has been around for around 4 years, and we have locations in New York, Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC (where I am!!), San Francisco, and Los Angeles. 

Yesterday, we had a large catered lunch, and I listened to a tech talk about parallel computing with Hadoop and Spark. The idea is that you can like a cluster of computers together to do the problem solving of one computer, which cuts down on computing time.

I haven’t suggested any music recently, mostly because I just switched from Spotify to Apple Music, so I’m building up new playlists. When I got to work this morning, I started the radio and heard this song, Can’t Be Sure by Tei Shi, and the strong beat and ethereal vocals actually distracted me from my work. The lyrics aren’t too complex and the song is pretty short, so I hope you give it a listen!

08:49 // Wed Jun 8 // Today is my third day of work at my summer internship with SocialCode Inc. which is a marketing/advertising company started by an MIT alum. I’m working on the Labs team, which focuses on gathering data about what kind of ads appeals most to what kind of people to maximize budgets. I’m really excited to be working on this project!

Something funny I learned at work yesterday is that I’m the youngest person here (probably) since none of my coworkers - even the other interns - apparently use/know how to use Snapchat. I will probably be giving a presentation on it in the near future.

Yesterday VP Joe Biden’s car drove past our building, which is literally 5 minutes walk from the White House, and he was surrounded by security and police cars. We could see the motorcade from our office!
