The Howl Ratio proves effective again
I feel like Zoey as a Sunlight Sisters fan was definitely a major shipper of Celine x Miyeong.
Girl has definietly watched those edits where it's like "the way Celine looks at her 🥺" and its just every side glance Celine has ever given Miyeong. And she kicked her feet and squeeled over it everytime.
She was also probably in a very small but tight-knit online community dedicated to Celine x Miyeong. Like she was a very active member of that community and even has a tumblr blog dedicated to it. She was kind kf a niche micro-celebrity in that fandom. (Tho she never revealed any personal info like her face, name, voice, etc)
She's also made a ton of fan content for the ship---fanfiction, fanart, merch---you name it, she's made it. She's even written songd about Celine and Miyeong being sad unrequited yuri
But after joining Huntrix, she completely goes inactive online. Like this is the only thing she will never tell the other girls. Zoey has her secret even more well hidden than Rumi had her demon heritage thing.
Because there is no way she's looking in her bestfriend's eyes and saying "i wrote omegaverse smut about ur adoptive mom and birth mom, the latter of whom is very dead"
Also that ship was her gay awakening. Whether its cause the ship was gay or she had a crush on one of them is something she will never reveal.
Zoey first joining Huntr/x must have been a wild exprience
Zoey: Yay! I got into the idol group that's being mentored by a former member of my favorite kpop band! I hope I'm good enough to earn my place in the grou-
Celine: So demons are real. And you, my adoptive daughter and the pink-haired girl have been chosen by destiny to fight them; protecting the barrier between our world and theirs.
Zoey: What.
Zoey being a Sunlight Sisters fan means so much to me.
The idea that as a half-korean kid living in America; the Sunlight Sisters was Zoey's biggest connection to Korean culture.
The idea that her Korean parent was the one who introduced the group to her (because the Sunlight Sisters would have most likely not been super popular by the time Zoey was born; especially in America). The idea that her parent used the Sunlight Sisters to share a little bit of their culture with their daughter. The Sunlight Sisters was her parent's favorite kpop group that they held very close to their heart, and they wanted to share that specialness with their duaghter. The image of Zoey and her parent belting out the lyrics in Korean together; giggling and having fun. They both take a little joy in the fact only they understand the lyrics, like a precious secret between the two of them.
The idea that Zoey may not have initially wanted to learn Korean as a kid because it would just be another thing making her stand out. But because she loved the Sunlight Sisters, she wanted to learn. She wanted to have a deeper understanding of their Korean lyrics. She wanted to write songs just like them.
The idea that music helps you feel connected to a culture that always felt incredibly distant to you growing up.
This scene is so funny to me because the only plan they had to convince Gwi-Ma was to basically to thirst trap him.
AND IT WORKED
The fact that Rumi's patterns only came later in her life adds such an intresting layer to her relationship with Celine.
Like Celine probably spent the first few years of Rumi's life thinking Rumi probably didn't inherint any demonic characteristics. Honestly, maybe that was something she found a sense of relief in. Celine would never have to worry if the other Hunters who Rumi would eventually meet would attack Rumiforbeing part demon. She wouldn't have to worry if Rumi might become dangerous. Caring for a child is hard enough; caring for a half-demon child is a whole other challenge. She could just raise her kid in some level of normalcy (or well at least as much normalcy as a Hunter can get)
But then the patterns showed up.
And that changes things.
Now, Rumi can be identified as a demon; other Hunters may see her as a threat (and though Celinewould never admit it herself, a part of her will also always see Rumi's demon-half as a threat); they could hurt her. Or Rumi might loose her hmanity and harm people.
And now everytime she sees Rumi's patterns, she can't help but be reminded of Rumi's father. That Rumi isn't human. She isn't normal. She can never really be normal.
The context of Rumi having been born without patterns also adds a lot to this line fron Celine.
She didn't know that raising Rumi would mean raising a half-demon child. She thought she was raising a normal human kid. She could never imagine caring for something she was trained to kill. Somethung that was meant to be emotionless and cruel
But regardless, she did.
Because there was her daughter with patterns on her shoulders. Patterns only a demon could have. Her daughter who was bright, sassy, sweet, bratty and so so loving.
She truely could never have imagined a demon that could love. But maybe Rumi could be an exception
I love the implication that Jinu does, in-fact, have his own official signature stamp.
It's either his own old stamp from like 400 years ago or like he had that recently made. It's even funnier to imagine that he had it made specifically so that he could write Rumi a letter
Jinu really just formed an idol group with all the handsome theater kids 💀
